Who did you see live last?

A chum’s wife couldn’t make it to Postmodern Jukebox at G-Live so he offered me her ticket. I do love PMJ’s videos where they mash up modern hits with older musical styles. However, live they took it to another level. Such a fun, fun night out.

 

Not bad seats, either!!!

Thanks for coming Rob! The sound on stage was pretty good too. For anyone interested, I ran my P bass into a GK Legacy 800, through an Elf 2x8. The GK DI ran to FOH and back at me a little bit in the monitors.

Saw Agnostic Front last night at Robins in Wolverhampton. 

Not seen them for years. They were still good.

Roger Daltrey in Manchester last night.  A voice I've known since I was 10 and all of the character and timbre remains intact.  An extraordinary vocal performance, and not just in view of age.  An outrageously talented nine-piece band including some big names.  Roger moaned about his IEMs for most of the performance, though that seems par.  Probably a gig for Who and Daltrey stalwarts but a superb two-hour set that covered a lot of ground with some excellent variations on classic and less well-known tracks.  A highly appreciative audience too, and the band and Roger appeared to be genuinely happy throughout.  Excellent mix overall - I was directly in-front of the desk.  Acoustic instruments - and there were many of them - were handled beautifully.  As one might imagine, the only flabby, mushy, indistinct mess was the bass.  No note definition at all.  A P employed throughout with no visible bass amp.  A very good player I'd assume (given the overall class of the band) but impossible to tell.

Saw GUN do an acoustic set at St Luke’s in Glasgow. It’s a beautiful venue and a great version of their songs, some of which they’d never done live before. 
 

I’m thinking we could do an acoustic set from our set list?

It is! She played a central role and was excellent throughout - playing with a smile on her face and clearly enjoying the gig and camaraderie

Two gigs in the last week or so....

 

Canadian melodic rockers 'Harem Scarem' turned in a fantastic set at Camden Underworld last Monday. Huge riffs and melodies and probably the most underrated rock guitarist of the last 30 years in Pete Lesperance!

 

Sunday saw me visiting Hoxton Hall (a quaint old variety venue in East London) for the first time.... to see Yacht Rock kings 'Young Gun Silver Fox' with support from the excellent Joel Sarakula! Wonderful sets of 'west coast' sounds dripping with Fender Rhodes, tight bass grooves with a Doobie bounce... and luscious vocals. Simply fantastic!

Gary Barlow on fine form last night in Manchester. Lee Pomeroy (just in shot on the right) appeared to have a ball. Also Milton McDonald on guitar left-front making a second Yes-related band member as he played with ABWH way back when they toured. Add to that Gary himself chose 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' on 'Desert Island Discs' as his wake-up call to step up the production for his music. Barock Project with support from Peter Jones at Trading Boundaries on Thursday night.

 

Love the venue and both artists. 
 

Peter Jones on fine, nutty form and got up to do one number he had co-written with BP just him and Luca.

 

The BP bass player couldn’t make it this time so they had his parts recorded - I’d have offered but it gets a bit technical at times 🤣 

 

Had a great night at our favourite venue with #2 son and his g/f. I’d have gone for the second night on Friday if I hadn’t been gigging myself
