What is the one song that sums up the mystical word "groove" for you?

Defo a can of worms here....anyway here's my two penny's worth........

Poet by Sly Stone.....it's such a sexy groove and has some of the best lyrics ever written about being an artist IMO.
I love the rising high-on-neck bass line (or maybe it's an octave down guitar) towards the end of the song.
Bassnut, you nailed it. Incredible example of groove. The whole Riot album is historic funk & groove.

I remember when Sly released the Riot album. It's been like a bible for me since 1971 (43 years ago ). At the time they said the album was ahead of it's time. I got new for them, it's still ahead of it's time. There ain't nobody groovin and funkin like that cat at the end of Poet!

Tidbits;

If you guys think that's Larry Graham on bass your wrong.

That is Sly playing bass.

Sly recorded some of the tracks in his RV and some in his Beverly Hills mansion.

He drove a lot of cats crazy during that time.

He called Bobby Womack before it was released and said; Hey man, I',m coming out of left field on everybody with this one"

Sly came out of left field on everyone with this release.
Oh my god, how righteous is that bass tone! Fantastic :)
I wonder what kind of bass that is, a bitsa Stingray-a-like or a custom build?
What a band!

After this lot, I'll never need to trawl You tube for my Sunday morning groove time. There's some really fantastic stuff there (and the VULFPECK track is something else)

Nice to see that good groove does not just depend on 70's hair and multi-coloured satin jumpsuits. :D

I gleaned from an interview with Joe Dart that it's some random cheap entry-level bass with a ceramic MM pup and TI flats, he didn't mention active or passive. It inspired me to buy Hamfist's modified Westone Thunder with P and MM pickups, which is now also wearing TIs and can get similar sounds!

You can't mention Vulfpeck in a thread like this without throwing up My First Car and Beastly too...
