Gold Hardware

What's the deal with gold hardware... It looks awful.

There are two lovely sixers in the marketplace at the moment that are both ruined by a gold bridge and tuners, making a £2K bass look like it came out of a kinder egg.

It's got to be in serious competition with the single cut as the worst crime against bass aesthetics.

I know I could just change them but thats a faff and extra expense...

Gold on a simple bass (PB, JB) in black or white (especially combined with rosewood, cream bound fretboards with block markers) is the killa. Kinda pimp-ish, but nonetheless classy.
Gold on cherry red also works, especially when it goes old and matte or even slightly corroded.

I actually replaced the chrome hardware, on my Warwick, with gold.

I think it looks ok against the bubinga body, what other people think is of little importance.

My SB Elite came with gold hardware. Again, it looks pretty good.

This is of course the bottom line... In bass as it is in life.

Taste is subjective :o shock horror...

Personally when I see a bass with gold hardware it makes me feel a little bit ill

to be honest, it has the same affect on me most of the time. :D

But there are basses out there that look lovely with gold hardware.
SB Elite Black & Gold
A gloss black Wal (which is probably a crime in itself to like)
