Wow you don't see many Millennia TD-1's in someone's bass rig. When I was in the states a couple of years back I spoke to a pro bass player who spoke very highly of them.
How do you feel about it?

Hi Jazzyvee,

thanks - I've been through a lot of pres in the past few years (Agi db680, Epifani Quest, Avalon U5, Matamp, TE etc.) and the only two that remain are the TD-1 and SF2 - 'kind of tells its own story. The TD-1 is in a league of its own (IME) in terms of control, air, headroom, forensics and openness. It's extremely versatile but I tend to ignore the tube side for bass and use the SS for its crispness and immediacy. Alembics really don't need opening-up as you know, however the TD-1 only adds to the complexity, weight and dynamics. A truly world-class pre and I think it looks good too. However, if you're looking for plug and play simplicity, this is maybe the wrong choice. As a bonus, Millennia couldn't be better in terms of support - the company stands behind its products completely

Acoustic Image combo with a Summit Audio preamp stuck on top - secured with cable ties, with a bit of sponge to stop rattle.

Nice, Chris! Exactly what cabs are those? DB? Do you like them?
I'm heavily contemplating ordering a few Aguilar 112s unseen and unheard, based on what BC has said earlier - probably DBs.

They are a DB112 on top and a non tweeter underneath. I haven't given them a full workout yet but I had a practice the other night and they sounded good. Not as bright as my old 410, but a bit more low-mid thump which is good and to be honest I don't need a huge amount of top playing soul and funk. They are great cabs, quite vintage sounding and looking but that is more to my tastes at the moment. My main reason for getting them is that I can get them both on the back seat of my car without folding seats down and they are easier to manage.

Thanks for letting me know. I'd actually not realised they are quite vintage sounding. For that I already have the Little Bastard 112s, and I don't need another set.
As to transport: same here. Two 112s in the backseat is soo much easier than that old 410. Glad I sold it, and haven't missed it for one second.

Current 'mid-sized gig' rig:

For little gigs, a 90s Trace Elliot 1x15 combo, for bigger gigs, the above with added 1x15 cab - for really big gigs I'm planning on using all of them in a horizontal array ;) don't care about beaming etc, just going for the look...

My one size fits all approach

Yes the 15" should be on top as all the thick lush bass comes from the 4x10" contrary to what we are led to believe

This is my gigging rig - and the rig that has caused me to sell off (almost) all my other gear:

Avalon U5 Preamp/DI>Crown Xti2000>BF Super Twin

[/quote] nice - can you describe why you like it so much... and what boxes on the floor you using too! :D

Ooh, there's a whole essay right there!
The pedal board is:
Single bypass looper>OC3>Oxide>Xerograph(with EP)>back to looper.

Why do I like the rig so much? A number of reasons:
- It easily gets the main tone that I want for my band - clean, deep but not boomy, with cut mids and highs. I tried many heads, and this and the Glockenklang were the outright winners. The advantage with this one is its 2000w of headroom.
- I love a simple amp where I can get my tones without navigating a sea of gain and parametric EQ knobs
- None of the components are that heavy, and it's no real hassle setting it all up/breaking it down.

The only thing that it doesn't have is valve grit. I don't need this for my current band, but have kept hold of a valve amp for future projects.

Something I was playing around with a couple of weeks ago, using the Fractal as a preamp and the Ashdown as the power section.
For the stuff I'm playing at the moment it's just a drive pedal in front of the Ashdown though. Simple, loud and angry (and cheap).
