I am the previous owner and owned it from new. In the years I had it, it did a good hundred gigs (400+) with no problem or complaint. I only sold it because I upgraded to the Big Twin T. I can vouch for everything said above and for the seller himself, who I found to be excellent to deal with. I would only add that I put rubber feet on the bottom and sides, which they did not come with at the time. You're even getting a roqsolid cover for that price.

Have you tried this??? (string brightening technique)
Sharkfinger replied to livingbasshead's topic in Accessories and Misc
Will give this a try. Will also see if it's the act of loosening and re-tightening the string that has the effect by only 'shlapping' a couple of them. -
+1 for Mackie SRM450v2, light, loud, very clear vocals and in your budget. We use a pair (version 2, which is lighter) for vocals and DJ music. When we do a bigger function we bring an active sub (with stereo in/output) that has a variable crossover that we plug the mackies: set it and forget it. Happy days. EDIT: just noticed that this is a revival of a fairly old thread. Would be nice to know from the OP what they went with.

Bought my Wizard P/J pickups. Great communication, very easy to deal with and no hassles at all.

Well done everyone involved. I've done it the last few years but this year I've decided to do the 'sober for October' in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, so would have been too much to ask friends and family to donate two months in a row. Been looking for a way to support Movember this year as no-one I know is doing it. Glad I spotted this, will be donating to OP.

Geek99 does indeed have first dibs. However, having messed about several times with this bass I don't want to take any chances. TBH, I took a chance on the Wizard P and it didn't work out so if I'm going to trade then it's got to be for one of the two pickups I've listed only. Other than that, just cash. Thanks for understanding.

Traded my EMG P/J set for this Wizard Thumper P and 84 J. While I like the J, I'm not keen on the tone of the Thumper. I would describe the sound as slightly rolled off highs and boosted mids, so it's well named. Would only consider a trade for an original Fender '62 re-issue precision pickup or something that sounds more or less exactly like it, like a seymour duncan SPB-1. That traditional 'hollow grind' precision sound. Cash value £35 inc postage. Will get a pic up later.
Thanks for this, another great bit of bass chatting ! Did you just leave the switch inside the cavity of drill through and mount it on the front? What was the effect (volume / tone) when you run on 18v mode?
Yes, I left the switch inside but there's no reason why you couldn't drill a small hole. You would have to use a small washer anyway, so that would cover any untidiness with. The tone was pretty much the same but the output was a bit bigger but it had a sharper attack. If you're into that hi-fi / EMG sound then its the next logical step. Don't know how 18V would affect the standard Lyte electronics but I shouldn't think there'd be a problem. I'm not sure you could have the two batteries and the switch if you wanted the magnetic control cover. It might just burst out, it was pretty crammed.

When I had the EMG active circuit in my P lyte, I had a wiring harness that would switch between 9V and 18V. The thinking was that with 18V there was more headroom and with 9V it lasted twice as long. It was snug but it all fit. No soldering required, plugs straight onto your existing harness where the battery would go. That's not what you asked but if you can't put a box in there and don't want to have it routed, it may be your next best option. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ATYRB5O

For sale is a complete EMG PJ pickups and BTS preamp system. All solderless, with all wires, springs, box, manual, etc present. No knobs included. The blend has EMG's Active Balance control, which is pretty cool. Work fine but just not for my thing. Well and truly a passives guy. In excellent shape apart from a barely visible tiny, tiny, dent on the front of the P pickup and a small chip on the side of the J, which is not visible from the front. See pictures. £125 posted and am including a procell battery to get you started. Would only trade for a really sweet set of passives. Something relatively high output. Either that or a Zoom B3. No other trades, please. Doubt this will be around for long. If I were closer, I'd be seriously tempted!

Have got one and found 2 or 3 sounds that I use all the time and dialling them in is really easy and take literally a few seconds. Really is an amazing pedal and as tough as it looks. Paid full price new when they came out and never looked back, you can get practically any drive, distortion or fuzz sound out of this you can think of. This is a bargain!

Just bought my EMG P pickup. Great comms, no hassle and turned up when he said he would.
Impedance loading. This is common for almost all passive Jazz basses and derivatives. When both pickups are full on, the impedance drops in half and the output drops slightly. Either roll off one of the pickups to about 8, or install (like I have done) a .01 capacitor between the hot lead of the bridge pickup and its volume control. This will clear up the bass and you won't have the drop when both pickups are full on. The bridge pickup may have slightly less output as a result, but it can be adjusted closer. The EMG active pickups don't have this problem because their output is already buffered low impedance.
Interesting. I would have thought that putting that cap on the neck pickup would make more sense, as the output will be a bit higher anyway? You haven't explicitly said so but I take it that also deals with the slight mid scoop?

So I've been wondering this for a while and it's about time I asked to see if anyone has an answer: When both pickups on a jazz bass are up full, there seems to be a noticeable dip in the mids. I can only surmise that it has something to to with phase cancellation. If this is the case, what can be done about it and more importantly, why isn't it done? I remember Fender had that S1 circuit a while back. Did that have anything to do with it? TIA

I have one and the market value is now at least double what I paid for it. It's a great precision, no more, no less: it was not made by an elven master craftsman in Rivendell. You could get a newish USA precision for that kind of money. Having said that, there's something quite special about and I guess some people would call that 'mojo'. Does it add monetary value? Subjective...
