1. I've also been a little lax in the past in donating to the site (think I've only done it once and offered something in exchange for a donation) but I'm all for a subscription to list items for sale. In fact, have already done so. I'm curious as to how the pricing structure was arrived at and sorry if this has already been explained but it's a very long thread and it's not something you can easily search for. If someone could point me to where something like that is, I'd appreciate it. The £49.99 free limit is fair enough but the £7 fee for something sold at £50 is 14% of that price, which seems a little high, insofar as that percentage seems prohibitive to those who want to sell mid-prices items. I can certainly understand wanting to keep the pricing simple and to encourage the subscription. Personally, I think a lower one-off fee, a higher free limit or even 2 levels of one-off payments would work better. Don't know how feasible any of that is.
2. Breaking my jazz bass for parts. Looks good, sounds good and plays well but unfortunately a little neck heavy. Bought the parts from the states (http://www.guitarfetish.com) as a last ditch attempt at making a lightweight jazz and it turned out really well (even had it professionally set up). Tried to mitigate the nose-dive by screwing a lead weight into the control cavity and extending the strap button on the top horn (good trick that, have to remember to do that again in future), which helped a lot but didn't solve it. Went together really well, so nothing is mangled. Guy who set it up moved the bridge back by 1 cm to get the intonation spot on but he tells me he filled the old holes before putting the bridge back on. Not an issue, as will be hidden by any bridge you put on there. Don't think the holes will be compatible with 'standard' Fender bridges as there's 4 instead of 5. EDIT: Neck heel and body neck pocket 62mm. So here's the list with prices including postage to mainland UK. Jazz body (recommend you buy the bridge as well): £[s]40[/s] £30 High-mass bridge: £10 [s]Jazz pickups (Alnico 5, 5mm pole pieces, wires soldered but not cut): £20 £15[/s] Jazz control plate (with pre-wired pots and knobs): £25 [s]Jazz pickguard (black perloid, 10 hole, slightly filed at neck pocket): £6[/s] Jazz pickguard (white perloid, 10 hole, new, unfitted but not pictured): £10 [s]Jazz Neck with string retainer: £30[/s] [s]Fender neck plate, with screws and plastic backing plate: £6.50[/s] [s]Bass tuners, generic x 4 (only 3 fitted on bass): £8[/s] Comes to a total of about £190 but if you want it all (or most of it), I'll send you the whole bass for £160. Obviously, does not reflect the time and money I put into it but that's the way goes. Any questions, just ask. Open to sensible offers and trades: currently after upgrades for my Fender precision lyte: EMG P/J pickups and preamp and maybe a lightweight Ibanez. EDIT: If you buy the whole thing, you get the strings for free! I must be crazy, quick buy it before they take me away! 3. Bought my BF Compact. Paid quickly, communicated well and arranged his own courier. Good guy to deal with.
4. Would actually consider trading this for an MM style (OLP maybe?) or a lightweight Ibanez.
5. Sold pending payment. If anyone's keeping tabs, it went in 8 minutes. Snatched out my hand so fast I'm counting my fingers, just in case.
6. For sale is my Barefaced Compact. As I understand it, one of the first to roll off the production line. I bought this new nearly 4 years ago and in that time, it's done over 400 gigs. It's been treated as nature (or rather, Alex) intended and had very little in the way of covering: just something very thin to stop the corner protectors catching on things. Has had plenty of chips, scrapes and bumps along the way and have been repaired as advised by it's creator: with a black marker pen. Can't really tell unless you're looking closely. If that kind of thing bothers you, I would advise waiting for a pristine one to come up (good luck getting there first) or just order a new one. Now for the sales pitch: it's minimalism and functionality at it's purest and best. At about 11kg, it's a very easy one hand carry and before I got my second 1x15, could carry all my gear into a venue in one trip. The rubber feet I fitted almost right away, as I quickly realized the need and installed some both on the bottom and side. Handle was replaced about a year ago and kindly supplied by Alex for nowt, the corner protectors are brand new and have just been fitted as a final 'tarting up'. If there are some patches that look a slightly different shade of black, it's probably fresh marker pen and will blend in after a little while. That's it really, not much else to say. I've simply moved on and fancy a more full-range sound. I've debated keeping it just in case but the Big Twin I've just taken delivery of left a big hole in my wallet. Now, I've weighed a few factors and come up with a figure of £330. Not interested in trades, thanks. Would prefer not to courier it but I'm sure we can work something out if that's your only option. Can be collected from Enfield or Hertfordshire during the week or somewhere in Essex at the weekend. If it's not too far out of my way, no charge. If it is, then a little toward fuel would be kindly appreciated. 7. Bump for a couple of new pics.
8. Just a though.... Would be willing to trade + cash adjustment for lightweight tuners . 11/16" (traditional size) peg holes.
9. First (and probably only) price drop. Not really in a hurry to sell this. Come and get a truly quality bass.
10. I used one of these for years and it's a fantastic amp for bass. In addition to the filter that bassman7755 pointed out, the other great feature for bass is the mono bridging at the flick of a switch (dip switch that is). It will also operate bridged into a 4 Ohm load and not even break a sweat.
11. Hi Liam85. Could you include a price please? It's not just a good idea, it's the rules
12.
Is it really THAT pink?
No, it's actually a 'vintage' white. Point taken though....
13. Up for sale is my lovely Jazz. A fine instrument, far beyond its 'budget' label, in terms of quality. It also has excellent wilkinson hardware as standard: the wilkinson jazz pickups are just amazing. The neck width is also a little wider than a regular jazz, almost precision. I really like that and it's more comfortable to play than you might think. Bought a couple of months ago off eBay out of curiosity. Haven't had a jazz for a while and wanted to have another go. Okay, I'm hooked again. Unfortunately, this beauty is too heavy for me to play for any length of time with my neck problems. I was hoping that the better balance afforded by the extended upper horn would not aggravate my neck pain but unfortunately, this is not so. By no means a heavy bass: about 4.4kg, just too heavy for me. I've since built a lightweight jazz, so this must now go. Want back what I paid for it, which was [s]£120[/s] £110. Would prefer collection/meetup from Enfield, Herts or Essex but could courier for an extra £15. Managed to find the original eBay listing and pinch the photos, most of which are pretty good. It's in exactly the same condition. EDIT: Forgot to mention that there's a couple of small dings along the top edge. Nothing serious and hasn't chipped the finish. Not visible from the front. 14. Bought a Hipshot HE6C from him. Good price for a practically new item and great comms and service. Perfect.
15. If you decide to split it for parts, would be interested in the pups.
16. I have one of these. What a fantastic bass, the pickups are really something special.
17. Might also want to stick something in 'items wanted', also in the basschat marketplace. You never know....
18. The paranoia was about being ignored, which is one of my bugbears, not about money. The lead time I was quoted (about 8 weeks) had long elapsed I simply wanted an update. I have it now. Actually didn't realize there was a contact number on the website, as it's been a few years since I looked at the 'contact us' page. I have had excellent customer service from Alex in the past and am a repeat customer because of it. Subject closed.
19. Only ask because I ordered one about 14 weeks ago and still don't have it. Last I heard about a month a half ago were that they were 'now being built'. I've tried emailing Alex a couple of times for an updated ETA over that month and a half (hardly nagging) and once through a PM on here a few days ago but have heard nothing back. Starting to think I'm being ignored, which is not a nice feeling. Telling myself not to be paranoid but I guess I'm just seeking reassurance here.
20. Bought my old hi-fi system. Came round when he said he would and with the agreed sum. A thoroughly pleasant chap.
