Also haven't played the modern "vintage modified" stuff so couldn't say how it compares. Only played US Fenders in the shop but to ears and hands, there wasn't a enormous difference between those and mine.

Like the guy at the Bass Center who installed them said: "more of everything, really, and no hum". I find the sound quite transparent; they let me hear how the bass itself sounds, which is VERY heavy plank of wood. I often get complimented on the tone. I've recently thought about adding the U-Retro preamp, to give it a bit more "warmth" but as I play though a valve preamp, that seems quite redundant. Besides which, I'm toying with the Idea of switching to a medium scale bass so might not be using these puppies live much. No; they won't be for sale

Not sure if you'll all agree that it's "Porn" material but I think they're lovely.

There's a short scale Aria on eBay that looks good, i.e. doesn't look "wrong" because of the short neck. Let's see how much that goes for. I have an Aria Pro II and I know they're superb instruments for the money. Not being an especially large chap with small hands, I've been considering getting a bass with a scale length of less than the standard 34". I understand the 30" scale makes a substantial difference in sound so I thought maybe check out something with 32" scale length? Really, I'm after advice from anyone who's made the switch or attempted to. Pros/cons/advice needed. I remember reading somewhere that this may have been an issue even on 4 strings, which is why LF came up with the 3+1 arrangement for the stingray. Don't know how accurate that story is; it may have been conjecture on the part of the author.

Hi Guys What are the chances that this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330142554239) actually had that jazz bridge pup fitted at the factory? I think it's prettly unlikely, myself, which may make that price-tag a little rich. Howerver, I own both a JV squier J and P and can vouch for their value for money. Having said that; really hankering for a P with a maple fretboard and the J pup is always good to have, so I'm a bit tempted. Thoughts?

Bough this in the early nineties when I started playing. Moved onto an Ibanez soundgear a couple of years later and I've not gigged this since. Been in storage a lot of the time still plays like a dream and kept it's tuning! Going to take it for a set up soon and bring it out of retirement. The preamp is a monster and takes two 9V batteries. Don't know what the body wood is but it's made of a few pieces and has a lovely red stain. The neck appears to be three piece maple(?). It has a bridge "jazz" style and a what I assume to be a humbucker in the middle position. I've googled the long title but found virtually nothing about it. Can anyone out there help? A current market value would be good, although it's absolutely not for sale. I paid about £150 at the time, I think.
