1.
Ahh, no... Bloody Red is the factory term for "White with all red paint splattered on it" Like Here either the B/W or the BLD finish On the 32" side, don't rule out the TSB series - to my eye somewhat more attractive than the CS.
Thanks for the tip. Was the whammy bar standard?
  2. Is that the kind of preamp the likes of aguilar now put into something the size of a die? That's a substantial amout of wood to take out. Talk about sound chambers!
  3.
(note to self: Watch ONLY! it's not the Schenker model, nor is it in Bloody Red - so you're not bidding on it o.k?)
What, like this one? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...l=classic+laser Seriously, though, I'm on the look out for a medium scale (32") Aria, Cardinal series, right handed. If you come accross one, would be grateful if you let me know. Cheers, Frank

    Distortions

I use the EBS MultiDrive. It's got a 3-way toggle that select the type of distortion. "Standard" type supposedly only applies effect on the upper frequencies, leaving the bottom end untouched, "flat" effects the whole frequency band so presumably you might loose the bottom end but gain a "fuzz" effect. The last is a tube sound to add gentle overdrive and valvey harmonics. Might be what you're after. TBH, I'm not having a lot of luck with this pedal. Soloed, it sounds good but in a band setting it just sounds muffled and just doesn't cut through, even though when soloed, the apparent volume is much louder. Perhaps I should turn it's "volume" right up, even though it will alarm the rest of the band if they hear it soloed, thinking I'll drown everyone out.
  5.
Alright Chaps, I want to pep-up the tonal range of my P Bass, thought I might stick in the EMG replacement pickups/active tone circuits. Has anyone got any other ideas/experience with these. Any other suggestions as to what might be good and what type of sounds I'll get? Ta
I'm sure I've seen this question come up a few times. I'd suggest having a search through the forum for something like "replacement Precision pickups" or something. Good luck.
  6. How about a black pearloid pickguard?
  7.
MB1. Theres one in Johnny Roadhouse on oxford road in Manchester. its been there since time began, its blue..... contact DANNY.... 0161 273 3069.
Shame I've only just come back to this thread, as I've just hit the button on a eBay purchase of a Mex Urge. £370 including postage to UK. I'm sure it will be £400+ once the govenment have hand their pound of flesh! As I'm London based, I'm not sure it would've have worked out. With my luck, however, they probably only wanted about £20 just to get rid of it. Damn my impetuousness!
  8.
my amp, a 21 year old SWR half stack, it's immense and only £250 aswell.
You made a wise purchase, there. I have the 2x10 version of this cab and it's great quality. IMO, you'd be hard pushed to find anything new of that size / quality for even twice that amount. This thread really makes me wish I'd take up music and a child or even in my early teens. If I had, I might actually have been quite good by now!
  9.
Just get a floor tuner - its the easy way.
I have one and if it was only my stuff that I had to set up and pack away, it would be fine. Unfortunately, in the covers band I play in, 3 of us set up and break down a full PA system every gig (minus help from lazy g**tarist, naturally). I just want something I can plug and play without sodding about with cables.
  10. Maybe a really good set-up is called for? Perhaps have the frets stoned down? Max price maybe ~£30 but well worh it if saves you the price of a new bass. Good luck, Frank
  11. Hi Clive I'm after one myself and was watching the eBay one as well. Wasn't willing to part with £650 for it, not sure why. Maybe because I wasn't sure I'd get on with a 32" scale and didn't want to petentially lose a lot of money in the resale. I'd be interested in any advice too. Clive, if you find a USA one, I might take that mex off your hands. Could I have first refusal if you deceide to sell it, please? Cheers, Frank
  12.
I used to be on the lookout for such a thing, but since I started using a cheapo planet waves SOS strobe tuner, I no longer use my korg tuner, behringer pedal tuner, the one built into my GT-6B or the one that clips onto the headstock. If my amp did have a tuner built in I wouldn't it. I find the SOS to be the quickest & easiest to use of all I have owned or tried. I have managed to loose it a few times though. ( Its also handy to have when trying out basses in shops.
I'd lose those like there's no tomorrow. Good idea, though.
  13.
BVT - now that's funny I'm sure they do it just to wind up the Behringer bashers I'm expecting a new line of removeable head combos from Behr... called 'strollabout' or 'walkaround' soon. I do find the people who bang on about Behrs lack of morality a little naive, this is business, and very few companies operate primarily on an ethical, moral basis. If Behr can hold up the legal process whilst they make their profit, blame the legal process, not someone who uses it to their advantage. I do have a couple of Behringer bits - the rack tuner and some studio monitors. If behr had not bought out their versions, I would not have bought from their competitors, I would have done without. So in this instance, Behr didn't impact on the competition's sales, they allowed me to have more stuff. Huzzah!
I'm in agreement. I have a their £50 rack tuner, where I couldn't have justified shelling out £150 for a Korg one. I have their 100W (or so) 1x12" combo as a backup amp and it's been fine for the limited use I've put it to. I'm wary of the tube emulation, though. I had the Tech21 Landmark 300, which I thought was excellent. Then I switched to a valve preamp which, while not as "versatile", blew it away in terms of sheer wholesome valve lovelyness.
  14. It seems incredible to me that amp manufacturers don't build tuners right into their amps. It seems like such an obvious thing to do. Now, I hear that one manufacturer does, I think they're called something like IA amps or something. Does anyone know of any others? ATM, I'm wasting 1U rack space just for the conveniene of not having to mess around with leads.
  15.
I've emailed Ishibashi about finding me a P Bass and they've found me a PB57-60. I was just wondering what the difference is between a STD PB and the 57 reissues? Is there a notable difference? Do they make Standards in Japan?
Not sure what you mean by STD PD. A "standard" P bass? Not even sure there is such a thing. Experts? If you're going to go for a '57 re-issue, you might as well go the whole hog and get one with a different body wood. The one that was suggested is basswood and while there's nothing wrong with that IMO, this one has a more "authentic" alder one. http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/...EN&wb_dis=2 I guess one of the biggest differences between the '57 and the other copied Fender P, the '62, is the fingerboard material. In the '62 it's rosewood, which gives it a warmer, fuller tone, I'm told. I only have a '62 RI so I can't compare. Here's a '62 on ishibashi: http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/...EN&wb_dis=2
  16.
...just wondered if anyone had any experience with them and can let me know how good/bad/average they find them? Anything I should be wary of or anything to keep an eye out for? It's my first Warwick, y'see - i'm quite excited...!
Wouldn't the right time to have asked this question be before you bought it?
  17. Excellent! Any closer with that playability comparison? I'd be very interested in that....
  18.
Just wondered if anyone has experience of Thomann delivery times via the free UPS service. My Geddy Lee jazz was dispatched on Tuesday pm & I was wondering when to expect it? Yours impatiently, etc...
I've found that it usually between 3-5 working days. Waiting on a bunch of stuff, myself.
  19.
Definatley! And the whole "relic" look (whether intentional or not) along with the EMGs just make it a gorgeous looking bass, and the EMGs probably sound good as well. I'm willing to bet it plays well, too.
Although it came out of the factory with "aged" dark stain laquer on the neck, the body has naturally discoloured and gained a couple of dings and chips. The EMGs give it a slightly more contemporary sound (in terms of response and range), it lets the tone of the bass itself shine through and tone is definately "all that jazz", baby. Much more so than the original pups (which I still have, just in case). It's got a fantastic set-up with .45 nickel strings and plays like a dream. I've only played a (new) US jazz in the shop and maybe the Squier's setup / pickups / mojo give it the edge but this bass was by far the superior instrument.
  20.
I was looking at one of these basses a while ago but they didn't ship internationally. There was a bit of company history with making instruments in the USA only, then setting up a branch in China to make more basses more cheaply. Then all that stopped and the chap is back to making them himself and is now able to ship internationally. With the exchange rate today, the price of this MM style bass is roughly: £172 ($350) - price £74 ($150) - shipping, this is purely a guess rounded up £62 - import of 25% £308 - Rough total I'm thinking about this and swapping out the circuitry with the East MM retro which would still come in under £450. It's just the looks....
Stunning basses and good price. I like the fact that they're sound chambered, making them light. Have just emailed them to see if they have a medium scale option for my girlie hands.
  21. I run the same signal into the two inputs of my power amp. One channel drives an 8 Ohm cab, the other a 4 Ohm cab. A year later, still no problems.
  22.
I literally only got back 30 minutes ago, I want to clean the 2 new (to me) ones up a bit then I'll compare properly, the JV has a badass on it too, and I noticed with the JV that the tuners go the other way (strings are strung correctly though), but on the back of them the spiral bit thingy (that's a technical term) is the other way round to most basses I've played.
By the looks of it, you have one of the very first JV Squiers: big Fender logo, with little "Squier series" logo. Collector's item. Well done! I'm pretty certain that the maple board makes it a '57 re-issue, rather than a '62 like mine. Would also be interested in how much it cost and how they compare (I don't have a "modern" P).
  23.
The best porn ever, makes the Swedish lesbian special look like a Leper retirement home. Get some covers on that P! Best looking bass that has ever existed the sb P, tort pg and rw fb w/covers. a to the g with the f c b.
I have no idea what you just said The Pickguard has screw holes above and below the pups, so I could stick a cover there (but where would I rest my thumb?). The are no holes around the bridge, however, and I don't want to start drilling any, in case I want to sell it in "original" condition. However, those screws are very grimy; I must get round to cleaning them. Any tips? I'm thinking metal/chrome polish.
  24.
Definitely is "Porn" material! Two great basses I used to have a beautiful 1983 JV P-bass - it was a fantastic sounding instrument. One of the ones I wish I'd never sold... Nik
Why on Earth would you sell that??? I don't use my P much, I must admint, but I wouldn't sell it. Why sell it to buy something that won't be much better but that will decrease in value? The JV will at least hold it's monetary value and probably increase. Having said that, I'll now be using it more in my covers band as it weighs much less than my Jazz that sometimes feels like a mill stone about my neck!
  25.
What style of music do you play? are the Pups more of a thin sound or can get they get a gritty?(if you know what i mean) better suited to jazz or rock lol Yeah i bought mine in wine red and a few months later realised i liked white owell still love mine!
Actually, I found the original pups a bit weedy. The output of the EMGs is higher and there is more "oomph" but not so much that I now have to use the "active" input in my preamp. I used this bass for my originals rock band (alt/goth/darkwave) before we downtuned a semi-tone and now use the Spector (also has EMG's). The jazz I now use all the time for my "working" covers band. We do rock covers from the 60/70's to now. It's got that full, deep growl that just goes with anything. Grittier that sandwiches on a beach. Like I said, though, the valve preamp goes a long way toward that but as they say "rubbish in, rubbish out". The EMGs in my Spector also bring out the sound of that bass but beef it up: a cutting, middy snarl. That has the EMG BTQ preamp in it as well but I find I don't use it much: no need at all.
