1.
I know Squier JV prices are going up, that that's a lot of money really - isn't it? www.ampguy.co.uk/sales.htm Have a look on the top row of stuff, right hand side.
I've got a sunburst one of those (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3506&hl=jv+squiers) and although the screws are a little corroded, I picked it up for a lot less than that.
 2.
Ok, bass arrived this afternoon, 6 days in all. Didnt get charged any import tax or VAT!! Nice. They will catch up with me later no doubt. First pics are the bass upon delivery. More yellow than I expected but in a strange way, I really dig the seventies vibe of the banana yellow. The set up was out the box was a bit naff, so off came the factory strings, the bridge and the white plate. Swapped the neck plate for my other "John Entwistle" etched jobby, the other resides on my Fender Aerodyne!! I then shielded the cavities, lowered the pups a tad and put on a nice new torty plate. Installed a Gotoh 201 chrome bridge, screwholes lined up perfectly......... things going toooooooo well!. Re strung with new strings (I use Roberts Yellows at £7 a pack...bargain!). Adjust string height and intonation and a bit of a tweak on the truss rod. Tune up and............ very nice I say. Looks the biz and plays nice for a dirt cheap bass. Neck a little thicker than a std jazz but still comfy. Total price £ 170 ish. Rondos service was excellent and the product well worth the money. Totally worth the risk and an enjoyable little modding project.
Thanks for the diary, good stuff. Thinking about ordering the short-scale Jazz, ATM. How are you finding the pups? Still want to swap them out? Heard rumours that the frets are a bit sharp at the edges, have you found this to be true?
 3. This works perfectly but I find the keys a bit stiff for my liking. Not using it ATM and will buy another when I have the need so this can go. It comes with remote "base station" thingy and it originally came with a cordless optical mouse that no longer seems to work. Will include it if you're willing to wait until I swing by my storage place and pick it up. Could be a while! If you have your own cordless logitech mouse, it'll probably work with it. There's an included USB to PS/2 adaptor, in case you don't have USB. Includes drivers disk but if you don't want to use it's oddball functions, you don't need to install them, will plug-and-play. Batteries not included, pickup only from Romford, Essex. I gig all over Essex, so you could pick up from one of my gigs. Will gladly accept a pint in compensation!
 4.
Here come some pics. It's definitely better than the Stingray 5 in terms of both low-end punch and versatility of sounds provided. I own a Stingray 5 too
Oooooh, pretty!
 5. Now on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130149638181

 8. Some good interest but nothing that's translated into takers. I'm listing this on evilBay at the weekend (presoulnation, that should give you the week you needed), barring any firm offers before then.
 9.
Basswood (a type of lime, Tilia spp.) to my ears has a fairly prominent midrange but lacks the upper range snap of maple or low end definition of ash. Its not a particularly dense wood. I tried Luke's Ibanez Gary Willis at the SE Bass Bash and it had a basswood body. Its not a bad bass at all, basswood was probably a good choice for a fretless although, as a matter of taste, I did find myself wishing it had more power in the lower frequencies. Basswood is also great for guitars (which picks up on Edwards earlier comments) because it sits in the sweetspot of frequencies that some guitarists seem to like.
This is probably over-simplified and my own opinion but I think Spectors are known to be "voiced" at that mid-range point? It certainly got the "growl" thing down to a tee. Personally, I think Wil hit the nail on the head.
 10.
Sansamp DI - hardly used - just not the tone for me. Not sure what the going rate is for these - £100 / offers?
I think I saw someone after one of these in the "Items Wanted" section. 2nd or 3rd page. Might be worth checking out.
 11.
Well, apart fromn the fact it doesn't work, and that the seller lists Paypal as his preferred method and then says he will not accept Paypal, it seems like a great deal http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-STU-HAMM-URGE...1QQcmdZViewItem
I saw this when it was listed. Seems way too high to me, especially with its problems. Or are you guys being sarcastic and I'm just not picking up on it?
 12. Beautiful bass there, matey. I personally like the badass look on a P.
 13.
heres a pic
Excellent basses for the price. Good luck selling it and have a bump on me.

 15. Well, I have a korean Spector with basswood body (bubinga top) and it sounds amazing to my ears. I've heard that basswood can lack mid, so maybe it's the active EMG pups and BQC preamp that are compensating. It's in the "For Sale" section, BTW (shameless plug!). Another reason they get put down maybe because they don't have a particularly "attractive" grain?
 16. Bump. This bass will not get any cheaper so if you're interested, make it known.
 17.
do the korean made ones have the carved back?
If you mean "curved", then yes. Doesn't really show in the pics I took, unfortunately.
 18. Bump with new price. Would rather sell it while I have some time over the bank holiday weekend and before I move home. Last chance before it goes on eBay.
 19. Early 2006 Spector Legend for sale. Extremely high quality Korean made. It was made just before they went over to the soapbars, so It has the P/J pup configuration. I bought this off eBay at the end of last year but can't seem to get on with it. The bridge position is seemingly "further in" that on a Fender type, which puts the nut a bit "further out". Not what I'm used to and as I'm quite a small chap, it's a greater stretch for me. I've just bought a medium scale Fender Stu Hamm Urge, so this must go. It's got a beautiful quilted bubinga top and a dark red stain that I just couldn't resist. The best part is that the previous owner had the pup and preamp ("tone pump Jnr") professionally upgraded to active EMG pups ( http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?...p;categoryid=24 ) and "BQC System" preamp ( http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?...p;catalogid=141 ). This has a pots for volume and panning and 2 stacked pots for bass/treble cut & boost and mid cut & boost / mid-sweep. This thing roars! It can generate the best "aggressive", mid-range snarl that I've ever been able to get. With the pup panning and EQ, lots of thumping and mellow tones can be dialled in too. Don't need to tell you lot how flexible this combination is. Nice gold hardware that seems to be very good quality. I had it checked over by the Bass Center when it arrived and they gave it a clean bill of health. Comes with a quality Fender gig bag. With postage/import duty and check-up this only came to just over £340: seeing as the upgraded electronics probably cost about £200, it was a steal. The bass is in excellent condition with hardly any wear at all. There seems to be a tiny amount of corrosion on the extremely chunky bridge which I've managed to capture in the photos. £250 Delivered. Any questions, please get in touch.
 20.
I bought a mid-90s Encore neck on the Bay a while back. Fitted it to an old Marlin body that previously had a Squier neck. It was tight (I think the Encore neck is a coat-of-paint bigger than a Squier/Fender one) but it worked. And then I made this out of them.
Isn't that taking shielding a little bit too far?
 21.
Have been thinking about getting a Harley Benton Beat Bass http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass.htm
"Plywood Body"? I'm no tonewood expert but that doesn't sound like a good starting point for an upgrade project.

 23. Probably the best choice, really. Even if you'd got something cheaper, you'd have been pining for it. Keep it pristine and if you can't get on with it, I'm sure you'll be able to sell it on without too much of a loss, hopefully. I impulse bought a gorgeous sunburst SR5 last year and couldn't get on with it (and couldn't affort it!), so did the same thing.
