1. Sorry, no pots included but you can buy some here: http://www.allparts.uk.com/concentric-stacked-knob-set-flat-top-for-emg-pots-2-p-3099.html
 2. Yes, just solder the pickup wires to the volume pot.
 3.
There's nothing dangerous about your preamp clipping or distorting, and therefore if you can't hear it then it doesn't matter!

I have a V6 with the same preamp (at least as far as I know). It doesn't really do harsh preamp overdrive. It if sounds a bit gritty for your ears, turn the gain down. That is part of the fun of playing with a valve amp.
Thanks for the advice, it sets my mind at ease.
A valve pre and not clipping it is a bit of a waste. You should probably send it to me and get a mic pre.

This, except don't send it to Oli, send it to me.

Or me
Sure you can have it... right after you prize it from my cold, dead hands
 4. I have an old TE V-Type preamp. It's fantastic and very no-nonsense, feature-wise. One thing I sometimes wish it had is a clip light to tell me I'm pushing the input too hard. In an ideal world, my ears would be enough but I worry that just because I don't hear really obvious distortion, there isn't harmful distortion getting through to the power section / amp or speaker. I would use it more if it had this feature. Can and should I have the preamp modified to have a clip light and has anyone done it? Alternatively, is there some kind of level meter I can add to the end of my pedal chain to give me an idea of the signal strength? Thoughts, please.
 5. Got 2 Mullard NOS preamp valves in my Trace Elliot V-Type. As you can imagine, it now sounds absolutely amazing. Have a bump on me.
 6. Bought off Sabian on this forum a few months ago. The only 'problem' was that it is the stacked knob version that left an empty control hole in my bass. However, I liked it so much I bought a complete set of EMG P/J pickups and solderless BTC system. Complete with full wiring harness, comprising of a matching solid shaft volume and a split shaft blend and a battery clip. Solder your pickups to the blend pot and away you go. I've got a wiring diagram for it somewhere if you need it. £40 delivered.
 7. EDIT: Just came across these again in my spares box! Only been 4 years or so, but will bump it anyway . Images are gone so taken new ones and lowered the price to £17.50 delivered EMG J pickup, neck position. The old 'soldered' variety. Sounds very nice. Cables are a bit short, so you might have to solder on some extension cables. Bought as part of a P/J set but a bit too short to be in the bridge position, so obviously for the neck position. Pickup measurements: Length: 92mm Width (excluding screw holders): 18mm http://www.emgpickups.com/lj-sj.html
 8. EMG Precision pickup. The old 'soldered' variety. Sounds very nice. Cables are a bit short, so you might have to solder on some extension cables. Can include screws and some pickup wire if necessary. £35 delivered.
 9.
i had two of these awesome . bump for a great head.
In fact, I bought Ziggy's AH350SMX (1996, I think). It's a truly amazing amp: fantastic and versatile tone and seemingly endless amounts of power. I challenge you to buy a modern amp this good for under £600.
 10.
I've just called you and left a message. I have 2 amps you could borrow and am practically on your door step. Call back or PM today and we can meet up tomorrow or Saturday.
Glad you're sorted out, give me a shout if you come unstuck.

 12. Hmmm, still no reply....
 13. Bought an EMG preamp off Sabian. He even wired in a couple of extra pots (blend and volume) for me so I could just drop it straight into my bass. How about that for friendliness and service? Highly recommended.
 14. I would argue that instead of looking at high-end, custom made instruments, we should be looking at mass-produced ones, where they strive for consistency in terms of build quality, shape, etc. To that end, I would point out that the Ibanez SR500 and SR600 are identical in every way, other than the body wood. With exactly the same setup, would they not be the best basis for comparison?
 15. Finally added pic of white pearloid pickguard. Forgot to mention it still has its protective plastic film, so you can have the pleasure of peeling it off. Ooooooh.
 16.
Done!
Bridge and body not done after all. Still available. Neck, pickups and black pickguard gone.
 17.
CAPTION?
"Dennis Waterman plays the theme tune..."
 18.
The Zoom B3 offers the following modelled amps: Ampeg SVT, Fender Bassman100, Hartke HA3500, SWR SM900, Ampeg B15, Acoustic 360, Aguilar DB750, Polytone Mini Brute III, Marshall Super Bass, Gallien Krueger 800RB, Eden WT800, Mark Bass Little Mark III http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/b3/ http://basschat.co.u...73-new-zoom-b3/
I think you misunderstood the question; it's bass guitar modelling I was asking after, not bass amp.
 19.
...CAPTION ?
"sounds like crap but loud as hell and very portable." ?
 20.
It would be great. But I think the individual piezo pickups on the Roland and Line 6 modellers are important to the results. The modellers work using a sort of dynamic eq to simulate the pickups and construction of different basses. The piezos give a common baseline with lots of high frequencies to work against. Don't think it would work with all the various pickups and tones on our basses. Also, the piezos are individual - one per string, so the modeller can work on separate notes instead of a chord. Less important for us bass players than guitarists, I guess.
Yes, I had an ideal that would be the issue.
Gk3b and Roland v-bass is the closest you're likely to get. Like Ped of this parish, you could have the pickup installed permanently which helps the look and ergonomics of the thing, but the tracking is excellent and the v-bass sounds are pretty authentic. More a pedalboard than a stomp box but has amp models and effects on board too.
Well there you go, that's the solution. Not cheap but it exists.
