Bass compressors that keep zingy top? COMPRESSOR PICKED!
Sharkfinger replied to Shockwave's topic in Effects
Bit of compressor newbie but did lots of research before I bought. Got myself a Budda Chakra and really don't see myself using anything else. Simple, sounds great and really transparent (or aggressive if you turn up the gain). £60 delivered from Amazon. Job done. -

Bought a pedal off me and when a problem arose, was very communicative, rational and grown-up about the whole thing. Anyone can be a good seller/buyer when everything goes smoothly but it's not so easy when things go awry. Tom is one of the good ones here on BC, deal with confidence.

Physically, it will drop right in. The original pickups are passive so will work with those electronics. Tone wise, it depends what you're after. Checkout my thread here: http://basschat.co.u...ision-lyte-tone I have gone through a similar process, so can empathise. Went through a few preamp/pickup combinations, till I finally worked out that what I wanted was my JV Squire in a lighter package. So I decided to go all passive and got a RI '62 but wasn't keen on the thumpy tone. Then went for a SD SPB-1 and it's exactly the tone I was after, as it's a more '57 P based tone. I have a KiOgon loom with a 3-way pickup selector, vol and tone. I would try with the actives at first, because they were quite transparent, IIRC. I wanted a pure P tone and that's what I got with that pickup soloed with the 3-way toggle. Not exactly like my JV P but close enough. EDIT: as an aside, I still have the J pickup at the bridge and it sounds good to my ears but I never use that soloed, only in combination with the P.

Wow! Was about to pick up the phone and nab it but cold feet...

Had a ibanez soundgear a number of years ago setup like this. Thought I'd invented something new, turns out it's know as a 'baritone', I belive. Didn't have to widen the 'notch' in the nut, as it happens, but obviously needed a setup, what with the string tension being a bit different.

This is a cheapish Tech21 BDDI clone. Bought it from lefrash a few weeks ago, as well as an MXR M80. Ended up preferring the MXR, so this is back up for sale. Here is the original thread. I hope lefrash doesn't mind me using the thread. It's in exactly the same condition as I bought it. As he mentions, there's quite a 'clunk' when you engage it, so you might want to use it as an 'always on' effect, as I did. Was actually going to keep, as it was so cheap, but need to sell so I can spoon the proceeds on my new H called 'compressors'. Price includes mainland UK delivery.

Bought my Ashdown Little Giant. Was great dealing with him. Don't let his location (Romania) put you off, deal with confidence. Trustworthy and honest.

Bought an MXR-M80 DI from him. Good price, great comms, lightening fast delivery and good packaging. In all, perfect.

Bought this a few years ago on this forum as a backup head, so has had minimal use since I've had it. Had it PAT tested and serviced, last time was in 2012. Gigged it every few months to make sure all was still good but since buying a combo a few months ago, it hasn't been used at all. Normally, I'd give it a blast to check everything still works but I actually don't have any cab I can plug it into now. Cosmetically decent condition but has rack-rash. A couple of the plastic tips for the shape and EQ buttons are missing but the buttons themselves work and are perfectly usable without them. Have the rack ears for it somewhere and if they turn up, will include them but no promises. Not sure what these are worth these days but I reckon a lightweight 350W amp is worth £100 of anyone's money. £100 Delivered. EDIT: would trade / PX for decent preamp. ^^ This. Had a similarly excellent experience buying his TC Polytune Mini.

Best tuner I've ever used. Have simply moved to the mini version of it, as I've downsized my board. A few signs of use, including a few tiny dings where the stop button is but fine apart from that. Has velcro on the bottom and no rubber feet. Will include a battery which may or may not work (I have a PSU). £40 delivered. Would only trade / PX for a decent preamp pedal.

Sold Stickman a TC Electronic Polytune. Sadly not the one he was after, which took both of us by surprise. Was very gracious and understanding about the error. Returned the pedal in packaging that was probably better (and completely different) than mine, so great care was taken that it was returned safely. A true gent.
