1.
Hi, very nice indeed. What does the JJ pre valve do for grind etc compared to the original EH valve?
The 12AX7EH had a bit too much gain. The JJ I think has a little less and is a bit smoother. Allows me to dial more of it into the mix before it gets too saturated. Really, I should have put the EHX 5751 Gold in there, as that's even lower gain and would have given me more clean headroom. Forgot I had it! Actually, can include that instead or as well (depending on price).
2. Got this recently in a trade deal. Great preamp and tone but prefer my v-type. [s] Have changed the valve to a JJ 12AX7S but can include the original Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH.[/s] Original Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH only is included. [s]£140[/s] £120 delivered. Trade for lightweight bass (7lbs or less) or some really decent 2x10 or 2x12 cabs. Small mark on front neat top left rack ear and some rack rash. DI on back doesn't seem to work but the standard jack line out on the front is fine and that's what I've been using for my in-ears. DI should be an easy fix for a tech if you really need an XLR out. 3. Bought a pair of these from Moos3h way back in 2010. I sold one a couple of weeks later, as it was more than I needed. The cabinet is a Peavey Eurosys III PA cab and is surprisingly light! Not to mention has great projection. There is no tweeter or crossover but I've lined the inside with sound dampening 'egg carton' foam. It actually doesn't sound too bad but and it's currently a back-up cab. The driver is Fane Sovereign 15-600LF (8 Ohm) and that's really what's for sale here, the cab is just packaging . It's more than capable of reproducing all the really useful frequencies most bass players need without the aid of a tweeter. They're still going for nearly £140 new, so this is a major bargain IMHO. Here's the specs for it: http://www.faneinter...ls.aspx?pid=197 £50 plus delivery but would prefer collect / meet up anywhere from Hertfordshire to most of Essex. Moos3h's original thread here. Will see about getting photos up this w/e. http://s1074.photobu...y/Peavey%20fane

5. Bought my OD pedal. Smooth transaction, thanks.
6.
Hi I'm on mobile so cant see your location... Cheers Geoff
I'm in East Hertfordshire
7. Sure is very good VFM. Someone wanna make me an offer?
8. Hadn't used this for a few weeks and took it to a rehearsal a couple of weeks ago. About half an hour in it cut out and would not turn back on. No smoke or bang, just died. Changed the fuse in the plug and it wasn't that. Probably something really simple, easy and cheap to fix but I have neither the time nor inclination to take this to my amp tech, so offering it for sale for the measly sum of £75 collection/meetup only OK, worst case scenario, you've got a fantastically built 2x10 enclosure with removable castors and a roqsolid (I think) cover. That's worth the asking price right there. The Neodymium drivers and tweeter are probably fine, so you'll have those too, which are probably worth more than the enclosure. Best case scenario, for just over £100 you've got a light, portable, very powerful and loud 400W 2x10 combo. EDIT: Worth mentioning that the speakers and the amp are part of a complete system and have some sensors attached to them. I've opened it up and had a look at the speakers and it looks like there's sensors bolted onto the back of the woofers. They look like they can just be disconnected easily and even be unscrewed and taken off completely. I would be tempted to get an eminence all-in-one crossover and just wire the speakers to it. Forgot to measure the impedance of the speakers but as they each had their own power amp and cannot drive an external passive speaker, I would imagine each is 4 Ohm. This means you could wire them in series to produce an 8 Ohm cab. If I have no takers, I'm going to do this myself. Looks like a VERY well put together cab and I've taken shots of the inside. The front baffle is MDF but the rest seems to be hefty ply. Will take a photo this weekend but it's one of these. http://s1074.photobu...ow/roland%20amp More info here: http://www.roland.co...cts/d-bass_210/ I'm based in East Herts but travel between There and west Herts most days and Essex most weekends so can meet / drop off.
9. PM's replied to. Problem is, there's nothing in my price range that's anywhere as good as this ATM. Can't afford to put £300-400 on top right now. Anyone got anything good to trade that's not too much more than this?
10. OK, don't actually want to sell this, as it's an absolutely fantastic cab. It's a 8Ohm cab that can handle 1200W of power. What drew me to it was that not only is it ridiculously light but it's slim. You can walk through doorways without having to twist sideways or hold it out in front of you. Comes with well fitted, padded cover. It has Italian Sica drivers. The front grille is not as transparent as it looks in the photo; it's just the flash Trade options are. 1) Relatively lightweight MM style bass. 2) A quality 1x15 or 2x10 to match my fender rumble combo. Wouldn't be looking to put much more money on top, as I'm a bit brass.
11. Bump. Make me an offer...
12. Bump. Feel free to make offers.
13. Trades?
14. Bought this a few weeks ago, so virtually as new. More info here: http://www.slingerst...itar-strap.html From the States, they're about £45. Yours for £30 delivered.
15.
All you need is a couple of minutes when everyone forgets they are auditioning and just get into a song and it's a good audition. Seeing that you fit in personally and don't have ego problems is probably much more important than messing up a bass fill. I auditioned with strangers a couple of years ago, god knows why they chose me, they told me after that they had looked at 16 bassists and I cant believe at least 10 of them weren't technically better players than me. I was enthusiastic, made lots of contact with the drummer, followed the singer when she was singing and the guitarist in his solos and rocked out with the rhythm guitarist, that seemed enough. If the band were looking for something different I doubt if I'd have been happy with them. you'll be fine so long as it's the right band for you. Good Luck
This. Well said Sir.
16. Bought this off eBay a few months ago, as I've always wanted to try one of these original Japanese Bass Collection basses. As you can see it's not in the best cosmetic condition, with plenty of dings and one through to the wood on the horn. None of this affects the playability, which is great. Could probably do with a new set of strings and a set-up but is fine as is. Lightweight (about 7lbs 6-7oz) and very blue! As far as I can tell, it's all original. Had to have the barrel jack replaced, however. Very high output and growly, which is great if you like that kind of thing but I'm really into the passive sound. Trade for a rack preamp (preferably Ampeg) or EHX Bass Soufood only. £150 delivered (in UK)
17. I have a similar background to you (self taught) and am in a long running covers band (though I got in at the beginning). My advice is to take a deep breath and go for it. Just to learn what you can, as well as you can. The rest will come. Even if you get turned down (and you will more likely not be) treat it as experience and confidence gained. My mantra is: "I am a better player than I think I am, I am my own worst critic". Edit: on the subject of learning songs: yes, learn them as accurately as you can but don't go nuts: no one knows or cares if it's exactly the same. There are certain basslines that are very well recognised and you will have to learn the key bits exactly but the rest just has to sound right. A good example of this is Maggie May by Rod Stewart. Get yourself a phrase trainer to help you. I've got a old Korg Pandora that records and plays back about 8 seconds of songs for me and I can slow them down and 'hold' certain notes, so I can find them. We all have moments where we get given a song and think, "sh*t, I can't do this!". Take a deep breath and break it down. You'll get there.
18. Bought this recently from eBay (from Japan), because I fancied trying a medium scale (32") bass and this was going for a reasonable price, because it needed a minor repair. As you can see, it's not in the greatest of cosmetic condition but that didn't matter to me; I see inner beauty . Nice tone, just not for me. Not into the dual humbucker thing it turns out, though I'm warming to the medium scale. This has a coil tap on a push/pull pot, so you can have it single coil, like a jazz as well. Controls are volume, blend and tone (with coil tap). The bridge at one point had fine adjustment screws, probably, but there's no need for them. When I got it, it needed the coil tap replacing, so I had new strings and a setup as well. This was done by Chris Ward, of Bass Center fame. It plays like a dream. This bass owes me £250 but l'm not realistically going to get that. [s]£220[/s] [s]£200[/s] £150 including UK delivery Trade for lightweight bass (around 7-9lbs would be ideal) or some really decent 2x10 or 2x12 cabs. 19. Bought new from Amazon but didn't end up needing it. Has clams and screws. Collect or meet up in Herts/Essex.
20.
Hey wheres my commission lol
I've left it down the front of my jeans. Feel free....
21. Thanks for the bumps, this is now sold.
22. I can't top it either but here's an anecdote from the best man's speech I gave a couple of years ago for my (guitarist) mate Garry; "One particular time, we were looking for a drummer and Garry finds a potential one on facebook. We had him come down for an audition at a rehearsal studio. When we met him there, it was clear right away he was mentally unbalanced. Then he started drumming, and it was clear after the first couple of beats that he’d only ever played a drumkit a handful of times in his life. After only a couple of minutes of this, he stops, and pulls out a bottle of cheap whisky, which he drinks all in one go. Pausing just once for breath. He then carries on drumming and surprisingly, the impossible happened: He got worse. After only a few minutes of this, I had the good sense to unplug my bass and simply say: “I’ve got to go, bye”. I got out of there as fast as I could. Garry and Steve, out of some twisted combination of good manners and fear, stay and struggle on for another hour. After which, they tell him to wait in the room while go and pay. They do so, and then literally run away, and don’t stop running till they get to the train station. They left the nutter there bashing away on the drum kit. The next day, the drummer (and I use the term loosely), contacted Garry to ask if he got into the band." Edit: Yes, I too see a pattern emerging.
