1.
Strewth!!! That is some gig!!! I think I could just about manage 2 - 3 hrs but our drummer and guitarist's bladders will only hold out for about 15 numbers!!!!!! I have read my way through these lists and the great thing about them is, it shows that kind of stuff you play/are keen on, which in turn gives us all a better understanding and what sort of player you are. I'll dig out our list. Cheers.
I must admit it was a bitterly cold night as I recall but the atmosphere and response from the punters from the outset was great - really spurred us on - I was grateful when American Pie was called as gave most of the band a chance for a "comfort break". , I tend to drink 3 pints of water per gig so tend to slosh a bit towards the end! Oh and I forgot to mention we also do Does Your Mother Know (Abba) and of course Mustang Sally!

Fuzz!

I do like a bit of Fuzz and find the W&C Pickle Pie B the best IMO - it is a bit on the raucous edge though so needs a bit of fine tuning/playing with - I do like the blend on it. The Fender Sublime I like too - has the big rotary control on top so can adjust the level of Fuzz whilst playing - comes in handy as a volume boost sometimes and gets really dirty when wound right up to max. Have a Brown Dog too - thinking I may move this on though.
3. In no particular order, we wouldn't play all of these in one night! 5. Disco 2000 / Sittin' on the dock of the bay - learned for a Wedding Party gig as requested by the bride/groom respectively.
6. OBBM - recent convert and have to say quality, service and price are all exceptional.
7. Stuck in the Middle - "Well I don't know why I came here tonight" - have played this in 3 out of the last 5 bands I've played with (each time through gritted teeth).
8. Just to chuck my two penneth in, I played my first gig last night using the Micro Thumpinator recently purchased from a BC'er, the difference to my sound was immediate - much tighter bottom end and definitely worth every penny. Incidentally, I tend to run mine at the very front of my signal path - which I agree does seem illogical to me but it definitely works.
9. I shall have to follow this one - Shell Pink is seriously cool in my opinion. Good Work!
10. I play in a band where the punters call 'em and we play 'em. Haven't (yet) truly crashed and burned , now I've said that it'll probably come back to kick me in the ass!

12. I reckon I'd be up for this one, looking forward to it already.
13. Yay - glad you're pleased with it and can relate to the favourite pair of shoes comment and also the setting up required when I bought mine new - sounds similar to yours. Mine's a keeper!
14.
I find Elixirs ok. I tend to mechanically kill the strings before the fluff and dandruff phase begins. My sweat kills non-coated strings quickly, but some last better than others. Coated strings don't sound at all good on phenolic boards IME.Conversely, the set on my Warwick Infinity sound great, a combination I'll stick with
You could always try playing in Black Silk!! Gloves of course as per the other thread on here!

Is the phat really that good? I've seen the youtube review and it does look interesting - so am considering getting one. Have to say the review of the pickle pie sounds great so am looking forward to receiving this. Should sound immense with the Rick.
16. Some really interesting comments and feedback here - makes good reading!

18. Having been playing Jazz Basses for the last 25 years I am a bit of a fan, that said I just bought my first 4003 beginning of December, and I'm loving it. I had borrowed a 4001 off a mate of mine a few years ago and didn't get on with it really, but the 4003 is nothing like the 4001 - loads of bottom end - and I mean loads! I had to roll a fair bit of EQ off my amp after using my Geddy sig Jazz. As others have said, definitely try before you buy - if I had to make the call for all round versatility I'd have to take the Jazz despite loving my 4003.
19. A few years ago my band was playing for George Martin at his birthday bash - went down a storm and was introduced to one particular chap who liked us so much he wanted to know if we'd be interested in working with 3 ladies from the USA, explained we were more interested in our own current project....turned out we passed up the chance of working with The Dixie Chicks. I reckon that would have been a pretty cool experience.
20.
cut the guy some slack. He's explained the situation. Not a session guy or pretending to be one. Just doing someone a favour. I assume the guy who's asked him to stand in has some idea what he's getting. More importantly, he's asked for help, not a lecture. So if you cant help, move on to another thread.

Here, here..More power to you!! Let's make 2012 a more positive year with less conflict between the members...
I couldn't agree more and was actually surprised, given the number of posts EH has made, to read such a comment on here?
21.
I have just watched 'Lemmy The Movie' on BBC4. There is a clip of him on stage where he is discussing his sound and technique. He jestfully plays some root / 5ths ala country style and then turns his Marshall amp (Murder One!) up and plays a bass line with incoporates strummed 2 string power chords. Now that was aggresive. Good film by the way.
I watched that the other night - damn that was a big/aggressive sound out of a Ric, although I'm sure I noticed definitely one more pup (IIRC there was an additional 2 pups in total). Also agree JJ Burnel's style of playing is about as aggressive as it gets
22. 1 and 2 for me too! Mainly 2 to be honest - I do like to see people clearly having a good time as a result of what we're doing as a band, and the audience participation that goes along with it. Although as others have said it's also nice to earn a bit of cash to pay for strings/gas related articles as well.
23.
To be honest if "being lazy" is not making things unnecesserally hard for myself then I'm happy to be called that. I think it is good to be able to play both though, I've always been fine with playing a 4 or a 5 depending on what I'm doing.
What I was getting at is that I'd gotten so comfortable playing a 5 that when the time came to jump back to a 4 - that really messed me up - I hadn't played a 4 for 10 years plus and really found it difficult making the transition back again! It's good to get back to your roots (no pun intended ) - IMO.
24.
For years, the most amazing players with fantastic techniques etc have gotten by with using 4's. The only thing that has changed now is the style of music and how it is reproduced. You should go for it if the music requires it. When I listen some contemporary rock tunes which use a 5 (or more) string, I hardly notice it as it becomes integral to the sound. But often I'll hear a piece of music in say gospel or funk styles and the bassist moves onto the B and I'll be like "oh that's a 5 string" and I find it distracting. I experimented with a 5er in one of my bands any my band-mates were like "yes, that's the sound". There was no turning back.... well... until I left the band. Then I was in a band who tuned to drop CGCF(AD) mostly, so a 5 string became utterly useless and I went back to a specially set up 4. I've seen bassists use the B as a thumb-rest right the way through the set on a 5er and it makes you wonder.... what's it there for, the (alleged) kudos? The transition is very easy.. unless you are one of those dearies who can't get on with a neck that's a smidge bigger or smaller than what you are used to.
+1 to that! I played a 5 for around 10 years or so - I have still got my Jazz Bass V (and would never sell it) - it was my first "proper" bass & has the Kubicki preamp (sounds great), I also had a Streamer Stage 1 and still have a Spector Legend 5 (though am considering moving this on). I have gone back to playing a 4 now as I found the 5 was making me quite lazy - as mentioned previously, playing in E, F or even G is easier (IMHO), but to my horror I was at a jam session and was asked to play, there was no 5 string available so when I got up to play and the guitarist said the song was in F - I really had to work hard to remember how to play in F on a 4!? I felt really self-conscious and that for me was the turning point! I'm still happy to pick up a 5 now - and can play that without thinking too much, but definitely prefer a 4 string. I really do believe going back to 4 has made me a more rounded player.
25. What Bass are you playing? Some sort of EUB? Sounds great!
