1. Like dood, I've been checked-in here since the heady (and much quieter!) days of BassWorld v1... remarkably I've not actually spent much in the marketplace over the years, but hey, there's plenty of TIM yet
2. Do you NEED an 8x10? No. Do you WANT an 8x10? Yes. If you can afford it without causing discord or discomfort, go for it. YOLO.
3.
'Cover that jam sandwich (up) or the wasps'll be at it' or 'The sofa's looking a bit shonky. Let's get some loose covers.'
Other sandwiches are available.
4. That's very disappointing.
5. As per other thread: the late Rutger Gunnarsson (Abba).
6. One of my favourite Duran tracks is 'Last Chance On The Stairway' from the Rio album. Again, a wonderful bassline.
7. There's a couple live across town from me. He's got '7N' on his Beemer X5 and she's got '5N' on her M3. Now THAT's what I call disposable income.
8.
I struggle defining Jaffa Cakes though..
Oh that's easy. They're cakes, not biscuits.
9. I'm going to talk nicely to the print room at work and get them to print it out A1 size for me ☺ it's the sort of kick up the arse I need to actually learn something!
10. Abba might not be your cuppa char, but Rutger Gunnarsson's bass work was amazing. Dancing Queen is a masterpiece.
11.
Obviously One Direction and their ilk are basically a covers band aren't they but as soon as it says written by X in the CD sleeve they aren't actually trying to say they wrote it, the old co written thing is done to try and give credit to pop stars, change a few words and claim they co wrote it.
But surely it's technically only a cover if it wasn't written by you or for you..?
12. At one time, I was in a band whose set list comprised about 2 albums' worth of original material alongside 2 interpretations of songs originally written and/or performed by other artists. We were an ORIGINALS band. IMO anyway. I am currently in a band whose set list comprises 2 original songs alongside a list of songs originally written and/or performed by other artists. We are a COVERS band. Again, IMO anyway.
13.
I just call you stingrayPete1977.
That's not what you called him in that PM to me the other day EDIT: just for clarity... There was no such PM. This is very much a lighthearted comment.
14. Well that'll teach me to make an attempt at humour based on my pretty much non-existent theoretical knowledge. I couldn't find the "amazing stuff, but waaay over my head" smiley that I needed. Thread moved, as suggested.
15. I really enjoyed Every Possible Chord Formed By Playing Three Harmonics Over A Chromatic Stopped Root (EADG)'s first album, but their second was rubbish and then they split up. It was all Tony Goggle's fault, of course.
16. Oh noes! You said the B word! 😧
17. I spent much of the 90s playing through a Laney PB150-410 (like this, but a combo rather than separates). Obvs I wanted a Trace, but this was more than capable and I was well pleased with it.
18. I always wanted a Westone Superheadless... dreadful name but a cracking instrument. I'd still like one.
19. Oh look, a 'study' by 'researchers'. It must be true then. Marking territory? A readiness to defend it again incursions? The most complete load of total and utter cock I have read in years. Note: all comments directed at said article, not you Mr Slow
20. I've always wanted either R1 CHW or BAS 515T And if either came up and I had the money to spare, I'd buy it. I see no difference between blowing money on a private plate and blowing money on something like a holiday or a few exotic meals. Any 'vanity' that might be involved is the buyer's business, not anyone else's. This is very reminiscent of the "why does anyone need to spend £2000+ on a bass?" argument.
21. I had an SM900 for a while. Glorious sounding thing, utterly lovely, but oh the weight.
22. My most expensive bass is a custom build that cost me the thick end of £1400. For me it was and is worth every penny. My main basses have varying costs and values, but for me that's immaterial as by and large they're keepers. There's no point in me comparing them sonically or constructionally as they're all chalk and cheese.
23. Grab immediately. It's a classic.
24. Yup, that's him.
25. I used to have a Trace Elliot GP12SMX pre and a Soundtech 1U 800w power amp. Great sound, and loads lighter than a comparable Trace head.
