1. I have a bit more info now. She's importing free Karaoke MIDI files from a site and then hoping to change the usual crappy GM sounds for better patches. She says the software "wants" to look for VST files and her Roland patches are WAV. So, guys and gals, where does put us now?
2. Firstly, Thanks all for all your help and suggestions. I have started to compile all comments in an e-mail to pass on to her tonight. If she gives me any further info, I'll post it here. Thanks again, what a helpfull bunch you are. Thanks, keith
3.
Could she not just use some sort of VST plugin to play the sounds or something?
I did suggest that there may be a plug-in of some sort to enable this but she, or I, are not really up on all this. I have no knowledge of home recording and she wants to create backing tracks to sing over. I'll pass on your suggestion and hope she knows what I'm talking about. Thanks for your time and suggestion.
4.
Beat m eto it - What makes a bad bass player? Other people's opinions.
Spot on
5. Bad or great is all a matter of opinion. I suppose if you mean technically bad, there's probably loads of famous ones. For me, it's not just the level of ability, but all the other bits that go to make up a good musician from my point of view. Being open to the ideas of others. Turning up on time. Being easy to get on with. Always happy to learn something new. Puts in the work away from gigs and rehearsals. That's how I try to conduct myself but I know it doesn't exactly make me a good bassplayer, just a bit easier to get along with and more likely to stay in a band (providing the others are like-minded)
6. Anyone here use Samplitude. A friend of mine has bought this home studio package (version 14) and has also purchased from Ebay, a couple of disks full of Roland sounds. She tells me that the program has no option for importing the patches, only for using the built in ones. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
7.
with Stetson, and soggy vocalist.
Give me your vocalist's address and I'll send him some Lynx. (Cool hat by the way)
8. Beedster made a very good point re mic height. I sing 90% lead vox in a rock band and it's very important. It can make all the difference between great confident projection and sounding like your next door and mumbling. Also, with a female singer (I'm in a covers band with one of those) we find that she prefers keys higher than the originals in many cases. It's best to practice along with the original so I import the original MP3 into Audacity, change the key without affecting BPM and then sing along. BVs an octave below can work really well if it's more comfortable for you. I think it's Starship with Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas?? (Might be wrong) but I seem to remember she has the low voice and he has the really high parts. Sounds great. Best of luck. Practice is king. (Preferabley whilst you're playing the bass)

Thoughts go out to his family and friends. Sadly missed.
10. Phew, that's a relief, after reading all the posts, it would appear that there's only me, and Bryan Adams doing Summer of 69.
11. 5 stringer, does everything I need on a gig.
12.
Time to let 'old faithful' go. 210 watts (thru' 1 x 15" Black Widow) of window cracking power, easily keeps up with any drummer, fills pubs and small clubs. Very good condition, never let me down yet. I added a 4ohm extension cab (this brings her up to 300watts) recently for fun and believe me, you don't need it ! You know what one looks like but if you want a pic, I'll put one up. I'm looking for £150 Earth Pounds although I'm open to offers. I'm only letting it go 'cos I'm upgrading and need the cash to stop the wife moaning.
Ah, nostalgia, my first bass rig. Awsome watts to pounds ratio. Solid as a rock and reliable. Best of luck with the sale. Great combo and not expensive.
13.
These are EPIC guitar heads. I've been reading up and listening to a lot of CAE and CAA setups (wet/dry/wet rigs by Bob Bradshow of CAE/CAA, etc) and these are stunning heads.
Cheers mate, they are indeed stunning heads.
14. Rare as RHS, in immaculate condition with cover. 2004 early Scott Henderson model OD100SH Custom Audio head by John Suhr. Ideal for that 6 stringer tone freak you probably play with. This one has the presence and adjustable gain boost controls on the rear panel. New model now $3,299 + taxes and duty Looking for £1,650 and I'll get it to the UK (Essex/London) Thanks for looking.
15. Black magic woman. I also sang it. Hohner cricket bat (borrowed) Peavey Combo 300 Felsted School 1988

17.
Hi just wondering if anyone had the a transcription of the Genesis tune 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)' from 'Selling England by the Pound', the guys in the band want to do a cover for a laugh and I don't really know it. Cheers S
Here's a Bassmasta link for the chorus tab. Don't know if it's right or not though. 18. Sounds like you know him quite well, mate of yours?
19. Just bought a guitar from Paul. A real ""easy to get along with gentleman. Instrument was even better than expected. No problems at all, despite my eternal ramblings.
20.
Came across this on the Tube. What a groove.
Oooh, the drummer's the star here.
21. I'd go for an amp / combo. You can always make a bass play, and sound better. No matter what it is. Much harder to do with an amp.
22. "Ssshhh, camera, make out we're looking at something"
23. My choice would be No 2, just seems more up front. My second option "RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY"
24. I told my wife I found a flute on a bus seat. All was going well till she washed my jeans and found the bill. I don't do that any more. I whine and look sad till she gives in now.
