1. Yes, most annoying and unwelcome. Seems you get 2 seconds to hit the "bass products" tab and then it stops.
2. No particular order etc etc How sweet it is James Taylor Woodstock CSN version Old man Neil Young How long Ace Up on the roof Carole King Copperhead road Steve Earle Meet on the ledge Fairport convention So you wanna be a rock n roll star The Byrds Highway 61 Bob Dylan Room 335 Larry Carlton Bloody hell, I've just realised how old I am.
3.
I was wondering about that.......I get the impression the seller knows nothing about what he's trying to sell!
He also points out that the neck is straight as if that's some sort of bonus you're getting for $13,000
4. Come on, they're not all this bad. I play in a rock band with two guitarists and we all have the same attitude of "you need to tell me if it's sh*t" and we all tell each other when it is. No egos whatsoever. Youngest 36, oldest (me) 58
5.
I got a flat tyre on the A64 last week and Chris Wolstenholme pulled over and helped me change the wheel, and then he taught me to play Hysteria, lovely geezer. I tried flagging down that ****er Alain Caron first but he pretended he hadn't seen me, ***hole.
I agree about Alain Caron, we had him round to do some plastering in the hallway and never came back to do the finish coat and, I'd paid him up front. However, we had the last laugh because he left this in the front garden when he loaded his van up.
6. If I've not had a combo at any point and have been using a seperate amp and cab. I have always (through lack of experience maybe) opted for the same manufacturer. Last rig was an Eden WT500 and a 4x10 Eden cab, as I assume that good manufacturers will make amps and cabs that compliment each other.
7. I may use a few chords if I'm on a 6 string, played fairly high up the register. I tend to put them into intros if there's enough space before the full band kicks in otherwise it all gets lost in the general racket. I only do it if it's going to fit the number. Great fun.
8.
Not very often that I feel compelled to think 'wtf' but what was that first track all about! I may not be a Blues fan but as a musician I thought I'd appreciate at least something about that track... Nope!
Oh dear, Bronzy must have been bored out of his brains. I think it was after about 2 minures he decided to play a second note. I think I bought one of his old basses about 12 years ago. or he bought one of mine, can't remember which way round it was now. But yeah, what a weird uninspiring song. Prefered the Fats Waller track.
9.
the lost boys soundtrack is pretty good, if you are 80's inlined of course................. i'll get my coat
Leave your coat where it is. Cry little sister is a seriously great number. For me, Midnight run and Christine.
10. That's really sad to hear. Hope he gets it back.
11. As I'd only recently joined a standard covers band, I didn't think I'd have a say yet but I've already got "On the road again" and "I'd rather go blind" dropped The latter being so boring , I started to add the hammond with my right hand while the keys player played sax. Still, they're gone now.
12.
Sounds like time well spent. Shame some luthiers don't loom very large outside of their own country. Any chance of some piccys please ?
You're right, there are so many great luthiers here and in the UK that don't get the recognition they deserve. I met a few people there complaining about some of the 2,000 - 3,000 euro prices but speaking to some of these small builders who are doing it as a living, they are only making 6 - 8 instruments a year with hundreds of hours work going into each one. I'll get a couple of pics from a friend who was with me. It was at the Festival des guitares et lutieres at Issoudun. I used all my phone battery up on videos of acoustic guitarists who made me want to give up. In the meantime, here's a link to his site. http://ubass.free.fr/ And one to the festival. http://www.issoudun-guitare.com/
13. Maybe you can get away with one member using artistic licence but if you're the only one sticking to the guts of the song, you end up with another 4 people playing it wrongly. Result? it either sounds unbelievably good, or absolute sh*te. Judging by your complaints about the band, it appears to be the latter. If they are not prepared to put in the same effort as you, you need to tell them straight and if nothing improves, find another band. Rehearsal before last in the party band, we decided to do Mama Mia and Waterloo. Everyone learn't their parts and next rehearsal they were gig ready in 30 minutes. To learn songs at rehearsal is a waste of time and money.
14. I spent a very pleasant 20 minutes talking to Christophe Leduc today. What a nice guy (and what superb basses) He knew that I was not pro and still had the time to talk about his passion for building beautiful basses and guitars. He sold one to Marcus Miller recently (Abe Laboriel has five now) Nothing was too much trouble, including letting a ham fisted amateur pick up, and try his handywork. Seriously playable. I told him what I currently play and he was full of praise for the maker rather than the often heard "well, they're okay but..." Made a great day even better. Just need to win the lottery now to get one of his 6 string headless basses.
15. Bonsoir Fred, je sais que tu trouvera beaucoup d'amis sur Basschat. Bienvenue. J'habite en Creuse.
16. I tend to cut my nose off etc etc due to the principles involved. He couldn't have been that skint if he actually bought it but only you know what it's worth to you. Maybe the original price plus his delivery costs if there were any. After all, he's really asking you to do him a favour isn't he?
17.
I don't understand :S
Is it safe? (with German accent)

20. Well, if there's food on the table, shoes on the kids, the mortgage is paid and the wife has that Prada handbag she's always wanted, then yes, you deserve it.
21. Anything from not at all for a week, to 6 hours if in the mood. All depends on what else there is to do.
22. Oh Rich, where's all this Jazz GAS coming from?
23. You made the right choice. Out there, somewhere, is a band of musos who will be easy to get on with, have no egos and understand what give & take means.
24. Aren't the ones with the rounded edges like yours the Energy Artiste version? Could be wrong, but I had an Energy and it had sharp bevelled edges. Nice bass for not a lot of money. Shouldn't be on here for long.
25. My wife's just seen the pic and said "that's beautiful, just like a woman's body, perfect for you, she's got no head"
