1.
the lost boys soundtrack is pretty good, if you are 80's inlined of course................. i'll get my coat
Leave your coat where it is. Cry little sister is a seriously great number. For me, Midnight run and Christine.
2. That's really sad to hear. Hope he gets it back.
3. As I'd only recently joined a standard covers band, I didn't think I'd have a say yet but I've already got "On the road again" and "I'd rather go blind" dropped The latter being so boring , I started to add the hammond with my right hand while the keys player played sax. Still, they're gone now.
4.
Sounds like time well spent. Shame some luthiers don't loom very large outside of their own country. Any chance of some piccys please ?
You're right, there are so many great luthiers here and in the UK that don't get the recognition they deserve. I met a few people there complaining about some of the 2,000 - 3,000 euro prices but speaking to some of these small builders who are doing it as a living, they are only making 6 - 8 instruments a year with hundreds of hours work going into each one. I'll get a couple of pics from a friend who was with me. It was at the Festival des guitares et lutieres at Issoudun. I used all my phone battery up on videos of acoustic guitarists who made me want to give up. In the meantime, here's a link to his site. http://ubass.free.fr/ And one to the festival. http://www.issoudun-guitare.com/
5. Maybe you can get away with one member using artistic licence but if you're the only one sticking to the guts of the song, you end up with another 4 people playing it wrongly. Result? it either sounds unbelievably good, or absolute sh*te. Judging by your complaints about the band, it appears to be the latter. If they are not prepared to put in the same effort as you, you need to tell them straight and if nothing improves, find another band. Rehearsal before last in the party band, we decided to do Mama Mia and Waterloo. Everyone learn't their parts and next rehearsal they were gig ready in 30 minutes. To learn songs at rehearsal is a waste of time and money.
6. I spent a very pleasant 20 minutes talking to Christophe Leduc today. What a nice guy (and what superb basses) He knew that I was not pro and still had the time to talk about his passion for building beautiful basses and guitars. He sold one to Marcus Miller recently (Abe Laboriel has five now) Nothing was too much trouble, including letting a ham fisted amateur pick up, and try his handywork. Seriously playable. I told him what I currently play and he was full of praise for the maker rather than the often heard "well, they're okay but..." Made a great day even better. Just need to win the lottery now to get one of his 6 string headless basses.
7. Bonsoir Fred, je sais que tu trouvera beaucoup d'amis sur Basschat. Bienvenue. J'habite en Creuse.
8. I tend to cut my nose off etc etc due to the principles involved. He couldn't have been that skint if he actually bought it but only you know what it's worth to you. Maybe the original price plus his delivery costs if there were any. After all, he's really asking you to do him a favour isn't he?
9.
I don't understand :S
Is it safe? (with German accent)
10. Flat 6sei, Camden.
11.
Hi Keith,How are you,not getting over till the new year, now, hope you are back in your home,You know what it's like,to many sweetie's in the shop.have a great Christmas and New Year Bugger, got some December deps and was hoping to drag you up for a few numbers and not pay you again.
12. Well, if there's food on the table, shoes on the kids, the mortgage is paid and the wife has that Prada handbag she's always wanted, then yes, you deserve it.
13. Anything from not at all for a week, to 6 hours if in the mood. All depends on what else there is to do.
14. Oh Rich, where's all this Jazz GAS coming from?
15. You made the right choice. Out there, somewhere, is a band of musos who will be easy to get on with, have no egos and understand what give & take means.
16. Aren't the ones with the rounded edges like yours the Energy Artiste version? Could be wrong, but I had an Energy and it had sharp bevelled edges. Nice bass for not a lot of money. Shouldn't be on here for long.
17. My wife's just seen the pic and said "that's beautiful, just like a woman's body, perfect for you, she's got no head"
18. See your points of view, in fact if I was having this built, then yes, I'd get him to reduce the width a bit at the top. But the rest of it? Absolutely beautiful. (to me)
19.
As I type, in the "Basses for sale" part of the forum, there are all kinds of exotica! To wit; Multiple Ken Smiths A Fodera and a Fodera-a-like Overwaters A Wal US Spector Valenti Alleva Coppolo and God only knows what else... Yet few or no Warwick/Fender/MM that are usually the bread and butter of the For Sale part of the board. What's going on? Is it another one of those phases during which a given brand becomes deeply unfashionable (as Warwick & MM sometimes do) except really expensive? Answers on a postcard (or even below) please!
I was sort of thinking the opposite, that there were more MM basses than usual on at the moment. Get your point about the Smith's though. None for ages and then, London bus syndrome. Seem to have been loads of Alembics too. I reckon it's just people realising that they really only play that their Squire jazz most of the time and it's dead money if the exotica just sits in a corner.
20. Can't comment about the bass gear but have tried a 1960 head, a 333XL and after borrowing one for a week, have just ordered the V55HD. Unbelievable sound and clarity. Triode or pentode modes, switchable ohmage. My guitarist mate has had no issues with his and it came with the foot pedal. Going to run it through a pair of 1912 Marshalls. Great for the money.
21. Just seen this on the fbass site in "available instruments" Didn't even know they existed. Bugger, wish I'd seen this 2 years ago.
22.
There is some great stuff coming out of Brazil. And some absolute sh** I play with a Brazillian guy who introduces this stuff to me all of the time. Gione Antony Band
Mustango Sallyana? In that case, we're going to learn Summerio de seextyninos
23. Nice when somebody finds what they're looking for.
24. Welcome to basschat. Plenty to learn, discuss and buy here.
25. This guy is so cool. And to be honest, better dress sense than most girls in Basildon.
