There is precedent for this in the guitar world. Blues/jazz genius Robben Ford had his signature Fender guitar p/ups wired straight from the selector switch to the output jack. Tone was altered via the amp and vol was controlled via a vol pedal. His guitar tone was and is to die for. I'm not saying that one way is better than the other (I wouldn't be without my passive tone control) but just that there is precedent among the great and the good.
Guthrie Govan's new sig guitar has a switch that puts everything full up onto the bridge humbucker, straight to the jack for solos. ( Sold my Robben Ford Esprit Ultra last year, big mistake) -
..............or a Hohner B Bass V? G.
+1 Had one of those, great bass for the money and really easy to play.

I've done two of my own basses in the past. (One Jazz and one Telecaster bass) Taking your time is the key to success. I filled the slots with veneer. Took about a week of evenings to do each one and they both turned out great. Although if you can get someone to do it for £65-£80. Go for it.

Did a 2nd guitar dep a few months ago for an English band who come over twice a year to play for a weekend. Their drummer lives here but their rythym guitarist couldn't make the gig so I stood in. Drummer, been playing 40 years (ex No1 UK charts band and had a superb kit) Guitarist, been playing 40 years (ex pro and with guitar and rig to die for) Bass player, been playing 30 years (semi pro, Squire jazz and an old Peavey rig) Quickly realised maybe why the other guitarist couldn't make it. I got offered a permanent place in the band (twice a year?) Not because I was good, more because I knew the intro chords to White room. THEY failed the audition. Although the bass player aquitted himself with honours.
I like their superalloys but the cost now proves prohibitive!
I bought a violin set last year. £39.00. Now that's prohibitive.
Thanks to all. I will also check out the website you mentioned Nick Of course it may be all in vain if Mrs Clarky gets the bit between her teeth girlie shopping-wise
All this will be academic after you've bought 2 coffees for 20 Euros. Check out Pigalle, that's where most of the music shops are.

Probably a long term view is better at present as there are quite a few people having to part with nice stuff at a time when they need to realise some cash to survive. Not nice to take advantage of that but if you don't, someone else will so now is the time to buy. The market always recovers to some extent and if it comes back with a vengance, it only takes one article in a city-boys magazine to highlight the appeal of vintage guitars and basses as an investment and you'd be back to the good old days of Japanese bank execs buying Les Pauls and Maseratis (and maybe Fender Jazz's)

What happens if you forget your bass for the video shoot

Still, it's better than the drummer miming on a seat and a knee. -
Hi everyone ! I'm trading/selling this amazing bass made by the luthier Christian Noguera (one of the most famous luthier in France, if not the most). It is an Yves Carbonne model, with 8 strings and it is the only one right handed ! Other ones are for Yves and they are left handed. I want to trade this bass because it is not the sound I'm searching for. The sell price would be 4500$/2825£/3055€ (this is 7500$ new). So, here it is : You have a full review here (with many photos) : http://www.onlybass.com/html/test-noguera-yc.html (sorry, French inside) A quick translation of the specs would be : Body : alder Top : poplar burl Fingerboard : ebony Neck (one piece) : birdseye maple Matched headstock Crel custom microphones Aguilar OBP3 preamp Hipshot Style A custom bridge 19mm string spacing 34"' scale I'm not selling it for money so I'm not in a hurry. I would be very interested in a trade with an other bass (like a MTD 635 Wenge/Wenge or a Dingwall 6) What interests me is a bass with 6 strings and more Don't hesitate to send me a PM to know if I could be interested by your bass I live in France and will probably send the bass with UPS. Thanks for reading Arthur
Superbe.
The web seems to credit Madam Cholet with the bass playing credit but we all know it was Tomsk that rocked the low end! Here he is in action with an awesome tele bass. Note that wicked right hand action around the neck pickup - what a player! And again with a different bass playing back towards the bridge this time with a pick. The strength of his playing is clearly in his diversity. Respect
He's on Facebook, he seems to have changed over the years. http://en-gb.facebook.com/tomsk.the.stealable.womble

If anyone needs a Jazz scratchplate in black 3 ply. Here's one. Don't know if its Yanky or Jap but I remember it being around for about 15 years. Proceeds to go to Basschat and once it's been confirmed that that has been done, I'll post it off which I'll pay for. Whad'yer reckon? £12 as it's for a good cause?

I have the unpleasant task of selling some guitars for a late close friend's widow. She had intended to keep the lot but needs must. With the help of a very helpfull BC'er, this guitar has been dated to 1977. Serial number (not stamped in apparently) 06211025. It also has the words "Les Paul Custom" and made in USA on the reverse of the headstock. The guitar has not been cleaned in any way as is obvious by one of the pictures. The case is not the original as it's from the 80's period. The bridge pick-up was changed to a Seymour Duncan but the guitar will be sold with the original refitted or if anyone prefers to do this themselves, the Duncan can be returned afterwards as I'm trying to get as much money for this lot as possible for her. The guitar is in Brittany but will be with me after about 10 days for any further photography and info. Getting the guitar back to the UK is not a problem and any carriage will only be within the UK but it MUST be insured if you want to do that. Collection from Essex is also an option. I know the pics are not great but she didn't really understand my instructions. The paper name and address sticker on the back of the headstock will be removed as it was simply put there for ID purposes by my late friend. As stated, I need to try and get as good a price as possible and she has told me that she would like to get as close to 2,000 Euros as possible. I don't know what this equates to in Sterling at the moment as it changes on a daily basis. If this is your cup of tea, try a very close offer. Other guitars to come shortly will be a pair of PRS 10 tops, a pair of 80's Kramer Barettas, a 1978 natural Strat but unfortunately with a Floyd and a pair of Duncan humbuckers and a Heartfield Elan (1992) a Mex Tele and a couple of acoustics. Thanks for looking.
http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0137402321
Blimey, mines a dead ringer apart from a 4 bolt neck and a different profile on the neck (more D shape if anything) I thought the Fender thinlines had 4 knobs like a Les Paul set-up and I had no idea they ever used a Strat bridge. That's a beauty. I might put the price up (or change my mind about selling it) Cheers for that.
you've seen it then?
4 times now and an excellent performance it was. However, I too think it was unfair that the dwarf AND the beagle got higher billing than you.
I take it thats not a standard Tele scratchplate though. leschirons. wondered if a standard one would fit without holes showing.
Don't really know mate as I had that one made and there were no holes in the body to start with. I don't have a real Tele here or I'd try it on for size. I quite like the white pearloid look anyway but I guess plain black would look just as nice.

Most fun job in the world. House bass, open mic night.
Me too, now if anyone would sing that at a jam .... I'll trade you 10 Hey Joe's for one Died on my @rse tonight ...
Only 10? although I must say I seem to have had a holiday from Hey Joe for a couple of months now. Over here, it's the equivalent of Mustang Sally. Most memorable moment I've had at the open mic night was some French guy doing Albert Lee's Country boy. The guy was absolutely superb and nailed it guitar and vocal wise. However, he's not been back since. Probably earning fortunes somewhere, unlike me. -
I was young and needed the money.......
I don't think security cameras count mate or were you talking about your part in "Surf Nazi Ladyboys go Psycho"?
Nobody does. In fact Alex told me that Ken once refused to take orders from the Bass Gallery because they hadn't sold enough of his instruments in the past. Go figure the business logic behind that one! But it seems clear that he's not that interested in the UK regardless of its potential as a market. You'll have to import from the US, I'm afraid.
Now there's a man that knows how to run a business. DUH. It seems he's too far up his own arse.
