Hahahaha - I feel your pain - do you find yourself walking into a room and then asking yourself 'wtf did I come in here for?'
Oh yes, Mrs T. Been there (if I can remember just where it was exactly) Played on Friday night, luckily just 20 minutes away and had to come back to the house as I'd left my bag with all the leads, mic and tuner etc on the grass outside the front gates. On my 50th birthday, I drove home from work and ended up in the driveway of the house we'd moved from 2 years before. I imagine I'll end up in some home somewhere staring out of a window trying to figure out why my chair feels wet.

Can't comment on your bass requirements. I read your post because you appear to be working for a company that's still paying a Christmas bonus.
-
I'm assuming that for two grand, Norman Watt Roy will deliver it to you and then play it for you at your gigs.
I saw a lovely Epi Les Paul on Ebay and thought it looks an awful lot of bass for the money.Block inlaid fretboard, nice detailing on the head, hard case,it went for £166.I quite fancy one of those, the current Les pauls look rubbish in comparison. Any opinions chaps and chappesses.
Only that it's probably fairly well made and will do the job fine but a Les paul shaped bass shouldn't be allowed.

Sounds as if it's all going your way mate. Best of luck with it and the move down t't smoke.
awwwww That's cheating
Gimme a break, it was only the two Kings of Leon numbers this gig. I'm nearly 60. They're a bunch of school kids compared to my age. Nailed Manhatten and the Robben Ford stuff though but only because I have all the albums and love that stuff anyway. Got round the Yodelice number as it seems to have been on the radio here a lot. All the rest was old dross really but still fun to play with different musos each time. -
I go to a Jam night with the intention of playing new material, trouble is those who attend do the same old rubbish each time, mind one week we did some Zappa! Impressed you played with the flu mind.....
Y Thanks, it's a really nice easy going tune that. Love it. -
You're not alone mate. I'm at that stage where I call people on the phone and then wait for a clue when they answer as I've forgotten who I've phoned.

Does anyone else play a lot of open strings?
leschirons replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
I have, on one occaision, whilst playing "Let's work together" in A, been to the bogs and had a wee without stopping. Other than that it's the E and A strings only and the odd low B as the D and G strings are too toppy and thin. -
thats yet another reason not to do jam nights - I think I only know 4 of those songs !
I do have an advantage in so much as there is a website and people tend to contact me or the drummer via e-mail a couple of days before if they want to do something not too mainstream (for here) which was the case with the two KoL numbers and an 80's ballad thingy so if I'm lucky, I'll get a chance to have a listen on You Tube. -
I think the KoL are fab but I know thats not a popular view on here! Glad you had a good night!
Well, it's more popular now (although only by one) Never been a fan and to be honest, just dismissed them as a fad really but after doing those two last night I'll give it all a listen and not be too hasty in me old age in future. -
4? I don't know any of those songs, literally
I can understand that if you're under 30. Most of it is old man's Blues and Rock. -
Whoever suggests Red House at a jam should have a finger chopped off!!
Blues is huge here (unfortunately) and that one comes up at least once every time. As usual, it was a guitarist's turn up on stage and his big opportunity to endlessly widdle and strut. However, as I always have to sing it, I tend to cut in with a verse when I get bored with them being too self indulgent. Get's me a few evil looks but who cares. -
If you ever get the chance to do this, do it. It's great fun, highs and lows for sure and a bit of danger depending on who you're playing for. There are always a few who have a strange idea on how a song goes but that's half the fun and in light of recent events, I needed a bit of light relief. Tonight, I got to play, Bucket Use somebody Highway to hell Shoot to thrill Hotel California Help the poor Baby please don't go Red house Crossroads Sunday with the flu Come together Reality (80's euro ballad) and the highlight of the evening, Manhatten by Eric Johnson What great mix of songs. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Even turned me on to the the Kings of Leon to be honest.

I do 90% of lead vocals in one band and 50% in the other so I need to be looking out, straight ahead at the punters.
-
No effects whatsoever for the 5 string but an Aphex exciter for the passive 4 string jazz

Bass player's answer Esperanza if you're a jazz man and TOP if you fancy a funkier evening or as Bilbo says, try and get two gigs in. Shallow answer, put their pictures up side by side on your screen and choose the obvious. Sorry, but she is seriously fit.
Agree with you on Rod the Mod, Maggie May, but didn`t Ronnie Wood play bass on Rod`s early solo stuff when he was still in the Faces? But agree with you, Ronnie Lane had great feel. Try and find a live version of the faces song "3 button hand me down". It was on a TOPTP2 special. Just found a link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeZ4FMIVqto Jez
You're right, Ronnie Wood was playing bass with RS right back from the Jeff Beck group days and then the faces. -
Voodoo Chile, eh? I've always wanted to go to Chile.
Yup, I believe that's how it's really spelt and listed on the single (3 track EP I think)
-
As far as I'm aware they're not playing Voodoo Child but Voodoo Chile. The former is the Electric Ladyland track. They're playing the "slight return" which is Voodoo Chile.
I'd be wary of any teacher who imposes a "This is the right technique" regime - what's not right for him may be very comfortable & natural for you. There are plenty of excellent players who's techniques are very idiosyncratic & would be frowned at by the "Correct Technique Nazis"..
+1 for that. Technique can be a very personal thing. I suppose there are some "goes without saying" problems that can be adressed but go with what is best for you rather than someone else as you could find yourself adopting their bad habits. Anyway, try and get your mits around Hysteria by Muse if you're into them. Another obvious choice is Rhythm stick by Ian Drury. I wish by Stevie Wonder is a great groove if you you're up for a bit of Funk or if you're a Metal head, Run to the hills by Iron Maiden for an aerobic workout.

Welcome to Basschat Biscuit. Enjoy the forums. I used to be known as "The Wafer" but I've put on some weight in recent years so now I'm "The Bun"

The old 'what amp should I get?' chestnut
leschirons replied to holio.cornolio's topic in Amps and Cabs
Check out the Trace combo in the marketplace section for amps and cabs. It's only £250. Great for a bit of Funk and Rock. -
Looking for a pretty song to sing/play
leschirons replied to Jobiebass's topic in General Discussion
Especially nice if you have a fretless but it works fine without. "Coming back to life" by the Floyd. This sounds really pretty with just a voice over it and it doesn't matter how slow you want to play it. Just a nice song that works well with chords. Just follow the first keyboard part and then keep it that tempo for the rest of the song.
