1. The Quo and Wilko on the 29th. Not sure how I feel about it. My Mrs. wanted to go, having last seen the Quo in '79
2. He's what I imagine Howard Wolowitzs grandpa would look like.
3. I've got some strings on my fretless with no silks (roundwound) which I think may be Dean Markley.
4. I think that should work ok *caveat- I don't have either of these bits of kit!*
5.
If I owned an expensive instrument I think I'd be frightened of bashing it. I'm relaxed and comfortable playing any of my 'less than £200' basses. In fact an expensive instrument would make me cautious about putting a ding in it.
That's why reliced basses are available.
6. We play psyche-tinged pop with some bits that might be considered a bit proggy. Oxford seems to tolerate what we do, but I wouldn't say we're exactly popular...
7. What a terrible drum sound. So flat sounding. Song is ok-ish in a sort of Oasis way.
8. Most studio monitors and home hifi speaker cabinets are made of mdf.
9. I'm borrowing one at the moment. I've lowered the action and now getting a little too much growl I 3rd to 5th positions, mainly on E and A strings. Does the truss rod actually do anything on these? I tried turning to the left maybe just over half a turn and the neck doesn't seem to have moved a jot. It was stiff though. I don't suppose it works in the opposite direction like some dual action ones? Any comments appreciated. MBA
10. I got left behind ability-wise by a jazz band I was in just after I left school. They were just practicing and improving so much faster than I could manage, and they got in the drummer's mate who was at a much higher level than me at the time. Being told you're not good enough hurts, even if you have come to that realisation yourself. Guitarist has been pro for the ensuing 35 years and the sax player is really good for someone that doesn't do it as a job. Got fired from a band with a school mate as they wanted me to spend more time networking at gigs in London with them, and was replaced by a younger, taller, trendy looking lad who was about the same ability on guitar. Did get to play with the singer again in a later incarnation though, so no hard feelings on this one.
11. Do I win anything for not having heard of one of them?
12. I don't think I've seen one second hand yet.
13.
change to flats
Not this! I've recently changed to flats and find there is more friction, not less. I really don't think that would help.
14.
Have embedded the vid for you Beautiful instrument.
Cheers for that, now I can't view it on my Kindle Fire!
15. I've never heard those sounds from an amp. Sure don't sound happy
16. I put guitar into my Ashdown CTM15 and into a BF Super midget and it sounds good. The tweeter needs turning down a bit if using a lot of drive, but you could easily gig it. You're never going to get cone breakup, but pushing the power stage sounds cool.
17. The sockets look like Molex kk series connectors. Widely available, though the crimp tools aren't cheap. Any decent electronics tech should have one though.
18.
You'll be fine! You also get the award for best tribute act band name!
Even better than the Alter Eagles that were playing in Paignton when we played there?
19. I left one band because the keyboard player liked the Beautiful South.
20. Isn't that an Electrovoice logo upside down on the dust cap in the photo?
21.
Or indeed the one about getting it on with his sister.
I don't know either of these, but am willing to be edumacated!
22.
Just soldering a capacitor in there isn't going to make it into a passive bass. Even if the pickups are capable of working purely passive, for starters you'll need to come up with a way of cutting the power. Then you're going to have to find a way of disconnecting the pots from the active circuit and switching in your capacitor. Got to say, I'd be more inclined to just leave all the tone controls in their centre detent position (i.e. neither cutting or boosting anything) and have done with it.
OP is only wanting to add a passive tone control after the active bit, but without a pot, just the effect of it being fully turned off.
23. Initially just wrap the legs around the signal and ground wire at the output socket and see if that gives you the effect you want.
