1. My normal happy face, combined with surprise that someone would want to take my Picture!
2. I like it. I used to go and see quite a lot of it. I even dragged my mum (well, she IS a composer) along to see John Stevens and Allan Holdsworth playing a lot more chaotic stuff than this back in about 1980 at the 100 Club.
3.
Agree with the above comments but... don't think you should change your name. The essence of basschat is that you become known by your username (mostly).
Yeah, I think I'll stick with it. I'm quite attached to it!
4. From: The New Moon To: Charms Against the Evil Eye (!) what do we think? Do I need to change my User Name?
5. Have they stopped trying to be Queen v2.0?
6. It would help so much if you mentioned the model of your amp and the one you tried out in the shop.
7.
I started giving the strings a wipe down after playing when this kept happening to me. It didn't help as much as I'd hoped. So I started spraying a bit of WD-40 on them as well. This changed everything.(Because I have acidy gallagher type sweat) Also once had to smooth out the saddles on my old Ibanez to stop snappage. Helped as well.
Did you spray the WD-40 on a cloth first? I find it goes everywhere other than where I want it normally
8.
That looks cool, really nice colour. I was a little disappointed to see no horns but nevermind.
Bet you would if you saw him playing it naked!
9.
Can you get USA Teles that are not string thru?
well, I did wonder. It wasn't quite as expensive as I would have expected, but don't know if it was brand new.
10. All good stuff gents, thanks. It is a 6 saddle bridge, and thinking about it, he does break strings on the acoustic a lot too (S&P with a tusq bridge). Maybe Commando Jack has a good point with the strumming technique and thumb thing... There are a lot of detunings from standard to drop D and, I think, DADGAD sometimes. This probably doesn't help either... I'll look at the winding length thing too, cheers Big Stu
11.
Could be an issue with how he installs the strings, or if he sweats on them loads (will generally make them die quicker too). Elixirs are good for sweaty sorts. There are all sorts of metal fatigue things that can be happening. Hard to explain in text.
He does sweat buckets! I'm pretty sure he uses Elixirs too! he uses weedy thin plectrums which I never like the sound of on acoustic - makes less difference on the tele. I wonder if flipping the barrels over would be worth trying to start with, to use a fresh bearing point?
12. I've tried to repair my guitarists Planet Waves cable. It's been abused, but isn't really reliable. It has put me off buying them. The tone used to come and go on it. Could be to do with the conductive core getting to the braid at the stressed points.
13. Ha, someone recently changing from acoustic, to keep the feel similar, I'd guess! It's pretty well set up, I've checked it over for him (he's a user not a tweaker!)
14. Hi all my guitarist breaks a string at pretty much every rehearsal and some gigs and it's getting on my wick! They always go at the bridge and it's as often the wound strings as the tiddlers. I think the gauge is 11-52. The bridge is top load, not through body and its a US Tele. Does anyone have good experiences switching to graphtech saddles? The claimed benefits for sustain and "tone" are not an issue. Will they help him stop bustin those strings?
15. Sandberg do several in that config. If you could get to try one that should give you an idea how it might sound.
16. My '74 SG special (mini humbuckers) Ultra light and with a chunky neck that feels just right to me.
17.
With an aluminium neck.
Hell yes!
18. Not all truss rods are lefty loosey, righty tighty. Most are though. Sei aren't.
19. Hi Dan. Welcome to BassChat Where are you playing wednesday? I've got one at the Wheatsheaf this wednesday
20. Wouldn't one of these look great with the same little white pickup at the bridge a la Jazz? Anyone with the requiste photoshop skillz care to knock one up (on a torino red Bronco)?
21. If the dot holes are shallow you could just plane or sand the whole board down. Would be a benefit it the neck is on the chunky side already.
22. They do have a unique sound though - great in some settings. I had a Kramer 450B and they weighed a lot, possibly 12.5 lbs iirc. Real mans bass, that. It felt totally indestructable.
23. Well, its just arrived at work, superb packing and is immaculate - barely a mark on it! This sounds good acoustically, always a good sign, 1/4 turn loosen on the truss sorted out all the fret buzz. Look forward to trying it out amplified! Oh, and the pink fluffy strap (Levy's) WAS included! Tasteful!
24. I didn't think to ask if the strap was included!
