1. U-Retro has flexi connectors for the pots so you can position them as you like
2.
Now do the decent thing, post a larger version for a caption competition
"WANTED - three wedge monitors, must be comfortable under foot"
3.
So this is where it ended up! I played this in the Gallery; it's a great little bass and as Dood says, light as a feather (made even more comfortable by the ergonomics). Quite tempted actually, despite the string spacing being too wide for me, but I must try and hold out for another custom SEi.
You should know that the bridge string width is adjustable. The nut looks the same or narrower than your old flamboyant
4. Yup, that's pretty much a U-Retro by John East.
5. Blue LEDs are quite bad for your eyes too - there's loads on the net about it e.g. : http://ledsmagazine.com/news/7/11/13 cellular oxydative stress anyone?
6. One thing I found with the MXR that isn't really obvious until you read the manual is that it is designed to always give the same sweep for a given setting regardless of how hard you play. Given the choice, I would now go for something that give a more touch sensitive sweep, though I do like the sounds you can get out of it. My band doesn't like me using it though, there's always some comment about 70's porn film soundtracks....
7.
Incense, wine and candles.
And a bubble bath?
8. Even if they were two guys, I would still have considered their style HIGHLY derivitive. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it though.
9.
Deap Vally are just The Black Keys in drag.
That was EXACTLY what I thought. Well put.
10. Always happy to help!
11. if you just run from the send of the first I think it will mute the output unless the signal is returned in the, er, return socket. I'd send the tuner out from the first into the return of the second. Shouldn't be too hot a signal because the effects loop runs at line level.
12. again, if you can test the terminals with a meter and they read somewhere between 3 and 7 ohms, that will give an idea the voice coil is intact. Check the cone for rubbing noises as you gently push the cone evenly in the axis of cone movement (in and out!)
13.
2nd dibs, please!
OP has first dibs if I come to sell again
14. quick, easy transaction for a BF Midget, Jez is a top guy and I wouldn't hesitate to deal again with him. Cheers Jules
15. Sounds like the tweeter part is working ok then! Presumably there is some kind of a crossover then. Might be worth checking that one of the components in that isn't cooked. Could potentially be a cheap(ish) fix?
16. Can't you send the speaker off to be repaired? (though the weight might make shipping dear) Someone like Wembley loudspeakers: http://www.wembleyloudspeaker.com/
17. does it have strap locks? Without any tension on the strap they can make an odd quiet rattle (eg playing sitting down)
18. I'm pretty sure the pickups are potted in wax or resin. They should be ok, though the wires may need trimming back if the ends are corroded. With the bridge, the grub screws will probably be rusted in. It might be worth removing and soaking in penetrating oil (WD40 type stuff) before trying to move them.
19. violins have them!
20. The guy at the jazz jam i used to attend played his DB through one and it always sounded fine. You can't go wrong, especially for the money.
21. going to lighter strings you will almost certainly need to slacken the truss rod a bit. You may find the strings rattle a little in the nut if the slots have been cut really large, but will probably be ok.
22. Yes, I understand what you're saying, but the issue when played with the Hofner is only at indoors volumes, apparently. Unfortunately, I don't have both items together, so I can't repeat the exact situation. With my bass it sounds pretty much ok until it is pushed quite hard. I suppose I could string up my Sei with flats again and see if it sound odd in that scenario.
23. if the sound is equally low from both pickups, the problem is more likely to be doswnstream from there, either the volume pot, or the preamp itself (assuming you've eliminated the normal things like cable, amp etc.)
24. Thanks for the replies chaps. Interesting comment about the compressor, I've had it on to varying degrees, thinking it might tame the speaker excursion, but didn't consider it might be causing the distortion. I'll have to try it again soon (at a less antisocial hour...)
