1. I sourced this for a friend, so feel kind of obligated to ask on his behalf. It is audibly distorting a bit when played reasonably loud. I used to have one and don't remember it doing this until you REALLY pushed it. He likes a very bassy sound (Hofner Verithin with nylon flats!) and claims it is pretty much unplayable. I confess, I hardly noticed it when I played it, and sounded ok in practice with all the other racket going on. The speaker definitely isn't rubbing and the cab doesnt seem to have any leaks. Played the amp through my compact and it was fine. Is it just that the cab is a bit too small for the speaker and some kind of distortion should be expected? Don't have mine any longer for comparison....
2. If anyone might be interested. They are in good condition, 16 ohm 25 or 30 watts (can't remember!). Highly desirable for guitar, these crop up in many boutique cabs these days, but these are not reissues! I could cough up some photos if there is any real interest. These may be a tad underpriced, I'm not sure! pair for £180 (collected) cheers Jules
3.
The only difference, which of course is based on my opinion, The Beatles had to compete with higher calibre of opposition. On the otherside though, artists of 50 years ago had a better chance of being totally original, as there was not so much music about.
One of the reasons the Beatles did so well was the pop music of the time was mostly dull and awful, and by comparison, they were a bit good.
4. Care to expand on that? Sounds intriguing!
5. Aren't PRS 25.5" scale? plenty of those around and the SE ones are peanuts
6. KlusterFunK (capitalisation optional!)
7. The Body-Lee Funktion
8. Funk in yo' Junk
9. Mutant Funk Experiment (Turns into Mu-Funk [s]once[/s] when you get famous...)
10. I got the Studiospares M1000s recently too, mainly for checking mixes, and they are very nice, especially for only a bit over £50. I would say they have nicer bass extension than the Sennheiser (380 Pro?) set I borrowed for a long while. Good for playing the drums too as the isolation is good.
11. Deep Funk 9 (or any other number, for that matter)
12. the Spector Legend series are a serious bass for not a lot s/h - 35" scale. Mine was <£250 (bolt-on)
13. I'd get shorter screws for that one then.
14. I think a lot of people use a rails-type guitar humbucker. That's what I'd do. Kent Armstrong do them too.
15. Try linking the send and return sockets with a patch lead. Sometimes the return socket mutes the output if not used for ages.
16. As an unbiased neutral with no strong feelings pro or con EBMM, I think the issues raised in the initial premise are probably practiced in pretty much every mass-produced instrument, so probably a little unfair on EBMM. I dare say other makers fill similar gaps up with just the finish, thereby putting LESS apparent effort in.
17. Pickups look like DiMarzios - are the pole pieces adjusted with a hex key? If so, it's a good chance they are.
18. It sounds to me like it could be the input jack socket. They are designed to ground the input when no plug is inserted. The connection which "makes" when the plug is removed can get tarnished (usually silver plated). This could also be the case in the effects loop, especially if rarely used, though this results in loss of output.
19. you should get the switch anodized after finishing the shaping too
20. £40?
21. Thanks for sharing. Someone somewhere sometime will find this invaluable. Good man!
22. I bought a squier Bronco for a friend as a backup for their Musicmaster and had it for a couple of weeks and absolutely loved it, I couldn't put it down!. I've a strong hankering to buy myself one and put a matching white covered pickup at the bridge, like a diddy jazz. I think it would look really cool, if anyone is a whizz with photoshop and would like to mock one up......
