1.
I`ve always thought that their hats were quite nice. Oh, thats fedoras, I`ll get my coat......
And take that ridiculous hat with you!
2. We used to call it "showing off" in the old days.
3. My band, The New Moon are playing our melodic psyche-tinged pop tonight in the Chester Arms just off the Iffley road. We should have guest flautist Frei Zinger tonight on a couple of numbers. Headlining are Three Minute Tease, comprising Anton Barbeau from Sacremento, Ca featuring rhythm section of Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor, formerly of The SoftBoys and Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians. I think it is free to get in too, what's not to like? Cheers Jules
4.
Is there not a form you have to fill in if you are sending something out that will be coming back before you send it?
I'm sure you didn't intend it, but it sounds like a time travel paradox....
5. Plays and records fine but Freeview tuner not working. Ideal for copying your old VCR tapes to DVD though... Collect from Didcot, Oxon. Only 4 years old, can't bring myself to take it to the dump as it's still a useful bit of kit. With manual and remote. PM me, as I rarely check this forum. All gone now! Move along, nothing more to see!
6. I wonder if they'd give me a special rate as my Band is called The New Moon...
7. "now we can't "smoke" at yours, I had to have a load before I came round" (for rehearsal in my garage)
8. re the True Temperament fret thingies
Another product in the long list of Snake Oils produced by people who believe without understanding and bought by people with more money than sense.
I think in this case that's a bit disingenuous, I'm sure the guy who came up with that system has a better understanding of tune, temperament etc. than most. You should probably state this as your opinion. edit: spelling!
9. Hi Dave I just wondered what lacewood is like to work with? I think it is a lovely looking wood (I have a lacewood bass), I imagine it is a bit like mahogany, but does the lighter grain cut differently? BTW, I think the inset fingerboard is a cracking idea, I've not seen it before. Cheers Jules
10. sounds like a string tree would do the trick here
11. I'm pretty sure my luthier has an MB150. When I was last over there he told me some interesting things about it. His is an old one, so this may not apply to yours. They have a switched-mode power supply that can be problematic. He is an electronic engineer by trade and took it to a fformer colleague who is a guru. After searching out the schematics, he said it's a surprise it works. The design looks like it was done by an inexperienced grad and had some fundemental design flaws. Short of it is, he substantially redesigned it for him and it is now working fine.
12. the frets above 15 are only for decoration, it's no surprise they don't work properly
13. I imagine cutting an "omega" style cut-out in the arse end would change the balance too. But what the heck, looks cool as....
14. John McCoy out of Zzebra (and Gillan, Mammoth etc) Richard Sinclair - Hatfield and the North, Camel Roger Glover -no mention yet? Cripes
15. One thing I think is always overlooked when talking about recording guitars loud is the interaction between the speaker and the guitar itself. I used to love recording my SG on the verge of feedback, and that's one thing you just don't get with any of these setups. I know not everyone will be looking for this sort of sound/style, but if you are, I came up with a nice solution. I ran the amp output into a small speaker and tied it to the head of the guitar. You dont need a lot of juice going to the speaker to get the guitar to resonate in a beautiful, controllable feedback manner. It was a delight to play, until the speaker gave up, just needed to give it less beans!
16. Hi all someone posted this on my local music forum, Nightshift: "Morning, I have an Ashdown Evo II 500w head but the bloody handle has snapped off... any idea from where I can purchase one? Ashdown themselves do not have any for my particular amp head Cheers" If there are useful replies, I'll post a link back to them. Cheers Jules
17. You're lucky to find such a nice bit of ash under that black stuff. Very nice work.
18.
Ped, you need to do that 'point to the horizon' thing that they do in bad catalogues. oh, and a matching female model would be good too.
Hah... like any bass player on here is going to know a hot female model
