What are you expecting?
Ampeg haven't "been away" and got revived, their USP is "classic Ampeg sound" When HH arrived they did have something that set them apart from contemorary offerings - EL backlit panels (which I still think are cool) and extruded ally panels and rack handles. I don't see much in that current range that sets them apart, that's all, I guess that's what I was expecting.
2.
Laney has revived the brand by the way, here. I've been in touch, and it's coming on the market soon, supposedly they are just sorting out their distributor network for worldwide release. No guesses as to how long that will take though. Anyway, the new stuff -looks- good, especially some of the PA stuff, can't wait to have a go on it.
The backline stuff doesn't look that special to me - similar technology to what they used in the 70's, not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but things have moved on a bit since then, you'd have thought? I don't see any innovation, what is the USP?
3.
Kim Annette Clarke from Defunkt.
At last! 4 pages in and we get the first mention of Kim Clarke! Nice one Pete!
4. Get a Celestion neo 10" from Lean Business ~£62 and make your own cab. I got one from Watford Valves when they had an offer on for ~45. I use it for similar purposes to you, its fine!
5. Maybe the scarcity of new ones will eventually put the second-hand prices back up again?
6. Line 6 Studio 110 is just fine and well in budget 2nd hand. It doesn't fart out until you turn it RIGHT up, and the compressor is usable to keep things in order. fine for a jazzgig and "unplugged" with a sympathetic drummer. For just practice, perfect.
7. Nice choice of dark fret marker lines - looks unlined from a distance. My US M has the same, works great for me!
8. nothing flash but damn, he is TIGHT I've found this common amongst drummers too!
9. I'm guilty of this one, to my old band who now have a different bass player, and the singer now plays drums AND sings at the same time: Me: "I like that one you did that starts slowish then gets faster and faster" Drummer/Singer: "Oh, cheers, which one was that?" Me: "All of them!" I can be a cruel bastard sometimes, but this was actually true!
10. Apart from the satisfaction, what are the benefits?
11. Have you considered a Selmer Treble n Bass 50watt? They're not too big.
12.
I thought this was mainstream artist?
He IS mainstream (for JAZZ!)
13. On holiday in Madeira I was watching a jazz trio and admiring the guys Tobias 5er. I was a bit pissed and they asked if I wanted to play a blues, so I duly obliged, playing a fourth lower than the key they were in... They must have thought I was a proper gimp, which was a shame as they were nice guys.
14. my guess is the original poster already has an adequate sense of irony.
15. Ah well, I had to give it back before I got down to looking at that. She was very happy with the truss rod adjustment I did though, and gigs wait for no man, or woman. Next time I get at it I'll have a look and report back! Cheers Jules
16. Thanks dude. S'pose I'll have to pop it open then
17. Hi all doin a quick truss rod adjust for a mate on an old black Musicmaster. Trying it through an amp, I found it is quite quiet with tone wide open (on 10) and buzzes a bit as you wind it down. If they all do this I won't bother even opening it up, but I can't see why it should. IME you usually get more buzz wide open. It has recently been looked at for having the output re-attached (not by me!) Any informed comments gratefully received. Cheers Jules
18. You dont necessarily have to recess the bridges - you could set the neck at a slight backward angle, or rout the pocket out flat and shim the neck, even easier. This would save you trouble in the long run, but then I'm a lazy git.
19.
+1 Although, if the op wants to add forward bow, shouldn't he be tightening the truss rod, not loosening it? Speaking of which, check with your manufacturer which way to turn it as some do vary, though lefty = loosey, righty = tighty is a good rule of thumb.
If it's rattling from 1-6, adding forward bow would be exactly the right thing to do. To make it worse.
20. No. loosen the truss rod a quarter turn and live with it for a bit. Then do it again if it's still not quite right. That should do it for you.
21.
When I was 17, I registered with the PRS because I had some recordings played on the radio etc and had an EP and a track on a compilation by HM Records. That year, I got a royalty cheque meant for Robert 'Some Guys Have All The Luck' Palmer (for those of you who don't know, my full name is Robert Palmer). £8K. Like Data, I thought about for 0.37 seconds
Ha! Some guys have all the luck!
22. going back a bit, the Jack has a zero fret so widening the nut a bit isn't a biggie. I've done it on one of my Jacks and it was fine.
23. Make sure there's a really good seal around the speakers and they're screwed down tight. If there's a gasket missing or a bad air seal they can sound farty when pushed. This could happen when changing to a different make of speaker...
