1.
That's taking it to the extreme, and what you end up with is a 4th order bandpass. I'd imagine the mids are pretty weak with that one. I once did some experimentation with the effect of a slot alone, as opposed to a full horn. A slot lowered the effective Fs of the driver by as much as 25%, which is a plus as far as the low end is concerned. But it also lowered the upper corner frequency by the same amount.
Is that a big problem if you also have a tweeter, as in the picture?
2. Some powerful horns in this too, not exactly funk, more fusion, but nice feel and super, interactive drumming. I don't think theyre that well known, British (mostly) too. 3. I doubt an eyebrow would be raised if this solo were being played on a sax (ok, except the chord bits!, but you know what I mean...) Jazz sax and trumpet players do this sort of thing all the time, and you don't hear accusations of w*nking being thrown about there, so why because it's on a bass?
4. Lefty playing righty. Started on the violin, and I don't think there was ever a left handed option. My mum plays the fiddly righty and she's a lefty too. I play drums set up right too, though I did slightly favour my left foot for bass drum, but figured it would be easier if I ever wanted to kit share, but I've never got good enough to play drums in public for that to arise!
5. Last time I got a bonus I bought a s/h Sei Flamboyant and a Spa day and night for the Mrs. at the Vineyard in Stockcross. I think I wasted the £2.50 I had left.....

Just got a set of Roto Strings off Luke, what can I say?, super comms and super quick delivery, it's been a pleasure matey! Cheers Jules
7. It may not be the speakers at all, it could be a dry joint on some component in the power stage getting the 'ump as it passes more current, or even one of the big caps in the psu if they're board mounted. I've actually had this in a Sessionette bass combo - took a bit of tracking down.

10. The FretKing looks like a Firebird that might just balance properly. I like what they've done there. I love the Yamahas too, As rightly stated, a bit bonkers, in a totally good way1
11. Hi Clarky I've been thinking along these lines. Mine is the original Compact, metal grille. I'm hoping to try a Midget soon (Shire on here has one incoming). We could be on for a deal if I like it enough. cheers Jules
12. Mwah is much more to do with how you set the action up than the pickups. I've got Kent Armstrog soapbars in mine and it sounds nice to me. My old fretless had cheap EMG Selects (j's) in it, and I thought they were very good too.

14.
Also, I have no radius block for my spare fretless neck, and it needs a few bits of high filler, and various dings and lumps levelled out, anybody done this with a bit of foam and some sandpaper? Did it work? Or did it make it worse, as this is my current plan. All help much appreciated guys, Dave
I've done a defretted neck without a radius block, just fine grade (600?) paper and a flat hand block(cork). Working lengthways it seemed to follow the radius fine, and the paper isn't really removing any meat, just the high spots where I had filled the fret slots with woodfiller. While you're at it, you can roll the fretboard edges to make the neck really comfy. I put some Tru-oil on the board and flatted that down with very fine paper, slightly damp, and that gives a very nice satin sheen that looks remarkably similar to the factory finish on my US Masters bass neck.
15.
Oooh that sounds perfect as my electric ESP output is much lower than my Washburn AB10 acoustic. Thanks for the suggestion.
OR turn the Washburn down to the same level as the ESP!
16. I use a (lined) fretless exclusively in one band - its sort of acoustic rock, 3 piece so there is quite a bit of "space", even more so before we got a drummer, and I feel the sound is more expressive in this scenario than fretted. The vibrato sounds more mellifluous than fretted, it seems to sit with the material nicer.
17.
Will have to try and make it along soon..... especially if there will be some good 'used' stock. I'm really not interested in a wall of Fender jazz/Precision basses in a hundred different colours....
And you've got Spectors in every colour too!
18. acoustic/garage/psychedelic, according to our almost defunct myspace.
19. Serial number/ rear panel photo might help, I'm not sure!
20. Did I see Peavey T40? Might have been Friendly Fires. Unusual these days, fair play to em.
21.
You still selling?
Sold to me in April, sorry. They are really nice little guitars though, worth hunting one down. Cheers Jules
22. Wasn't it Fender pickups that produced the classic, er, Fender sound?
