1. the Spector Legend series are a serious bass for not a lot s/h - 35" scale. Mine was <£250 (bolt-on)
2. I'd get shorter screws for that one then.
3. I think a lot of people use a rails-type guitar humbucker. That's what I'd do. Kent Armstrong do them too.
4. Try linking the send and return sockets with a patch lead. Sometimes the return socket mutes the output if not used for ages.
5. As an unbiased neutral with no strong feelings pro or con EBMM, I think the issues raised in the initial premise are probably practiced in pretty much every mass-produced instrument, so probably a little unfair on EBMM. I dare say other makers fill similar gaps up with just the finish, thereby putting LESS apparent effort in.
6. Pickups look like DiMarzios - are the pole pieces adjusted with a hex key? If so, it's a good chance they are.
7. It sounds to me like it could be the input jack socket. They are designed to ground the input when no plug is inserted. The connection which "makes" when the plug is removed can get tarnished (usually silver plated). This could also be the case in the effects loop, especially if rarely used, though this results in loss of output.
8. you should get the switch anodized after finishing the shaping too
9. £40?
10. Thanks for sharing. Someone somewhere sometime will find this invaluable. Good man!
11. I bought a squier Bronco for a friend as a backup for their Musicmaster and had it for a couple of weeks and absolutely loved it, I couldn't put it down!. I've a strong hankering to buy myself one and put a matching white covered pickup at the bridge, like a diddy jazz. I think it would look really cool, if anyone is a whizz with photoshop and would like to mock one up......
12. The model number of the picture I'm looking at is HD740WH, a WHite Hondo with Di Marzios. They also did an HD740WI (WIne red finish) and HD740RS (Red Sunburst). As Mr Mariner asserts, these may have been Hondo 11s flagship model, the humbuckers are all uncovered. The ones with covers are probably from the (even) cheaper models. The book was published in 1980 and most of the reviews in it were from 1979, if that helps in dating it.
13. there's absolutely no doubt some Hondos had DiMarzios in. I have a Sounds book of the Electric Guitar which has a picture and review of a white one, detachable neck. With DMarzios as standard. I even vaguely remember little "powered by DiMarzio" stickers on them in the shops. I've a friend with one and the top it slightly hollow - even Gibson are chambering their Les Pauls these days, maybe they got their idea from Hondo.... It plays just fine as I recall
14. Hi folks on behalf of a friend, I'm asking what hard cases would fit a Musicmaster? I was wondering if a Strat case or similar guitar case would do the job, and might be more readily available. Budget would be low, I'm guessing, it is a nice little bass, though VERY heavily used (US, 70s) Any words of wisdom gratefully accepted! Cheers MBA
15. Got Sperzel locking tuners on 2 basses and 1 guitar. They are very nice quality and light weight too. Seen them on eBay over here, so they are available.
16. is elm stable enough for a bass body? I've a friend who has elm floorboards and they are renowned for moving quite a lot...
17. Or a small disc of felt trapped underneath the control knob itself.
18.
In two of my bands ( one classic rock/ metal, and the other more what I would class as classic pub rock) everything is in eb, mainly due to pitching vocals. Consequently I have 4 basses tuned at eb permanently, while the others are at standard.
Really? They can't sing a semitone higher?
19. It must be nearly there by now?
20. Why would you need them under bright lights though?
21.
http://www.dailymoti...ic#.UPiZUaFQT1o
I'm surprised no-one said "'ere, Barney, can you do the vocals again, they're a bit, er , flat" Hooky is free to do his thing because the bulk of the "bassline" is sequenced. You could do the same thing on the bottom couple of strings on a guitar, but it wouldn't have anywhere near the same visual impact. That's the clever bit.
22. Guild B301/302 is a quirky looking thing, it just isn't harmonious in design at all. I had one for years and never warmed to the shape. The same with the Shergold Marathon, it was never quite as nice looking as I WANTED it to be! Just an unimaginative body shape.
23. My '74 SG Special fell off a table IN IT'S CASE and got a headstock crack. I pretty much cried when I found out it was cracked days later, I have such a strong emotional attachment to it (18th birthday present, s/h!). It does seem to happen to Gibsons more than other mahogany-necked instruments. May be a combination of truss rod acess and voloute design and headstock angle. I've read even Gibson copies of the sme materials are far less prone to this. I think this was on a youtube vid of Gibson headstock repairs from a guy who had seen tons...
24. Have you tried turning the volume down on the bass? Just a thought.
