1. Ooh, I'll try to get along as you don't seem to play in this neck of the woods that often. Anyone else? Jules
2. Good result! Nice fix. Well done you.
3. Another favourite is putting a lead into the effects send and return sockets as oxidised contacts can also mute the output.
4. Is there a speaker output fuse somewhere (possibly internal)?
5. If you could outline the issue, someone (!) might decide that it may be worth taking a look at.
6. Really nice tasteful playing across all your bands Stef, top drawer! Jules
7. I get what you mean, it's just that I thought the ride and crash sounded somewhat disconnected from the rest of the kit when listening on headphones
8. I love the way they matched the grain and the body curve on this, nicely done. G.l.w.t.s
9. Recorded in my garage last year. I thought I'd put it up for critique. See what you think... https://audioboo.fm/...ye-icthyophagus
10. Good results, 1 question, the cymbals sound very wide, were the internal mics panned hard left and right at mix?
11. Ok, I'll chip in if I may. I listened to l.t.r and black and gold, and I think most of the problem IS the drums. In l.t.r. the bass drum stops during all the fills an breaks up the feel or lock with the bass. In b+g the bass is right on top of the beat pushing it and the drums are slightly back of it. At the start the hihat pattern sounds in that odd no mans land between straight eights and a dotted feel. The playing and singing is good, I suspect the monitoring during recording isolated you and the drums and lost the lock at times. I really hope you take the comments as trying to help, as they do read a bit harsh! All the best, Jules
12. Might be a bit tricky if it's pcb mounted but not insurmountable as you have skills. Once you've got into it it may be obvious what the issue really is.
13. You never know. I've got a friends Marshall that looks similar vintage but is only 30W and 2x12, and is really not that good (lots of issues on the PCB, now sorted) but it is loaded with 2 Celestion Greenback speakers, the "vintage" ie '70s ones are quite sought after by guitarists and go for quite good money.
14. Sound pretty good to my ears. The Mrs liked it too. Got any live outings? the website wasn't showing anything in 2014
15.
Don't overlook any of the Trace 15" combos. Even the 130w GP7SM combos are very loud, and have great tone shaping. And they are built to last. Cheers Geoff
For under £100 though?
16. How about the nutty thing Flea plays on the Higher Ground video? Would they include a sig version of those trousers too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=686A5yPMWrs
17. This means when centred the outer poles will only be 2mm off. With large pole pieces like those, I don't think that it will matter.
18.
Picked one if these up today. UNBELIEVABLE sound, and then for a shoebox sized combo! Incredible. Think it' weighs about 4lb. It happily handles an acg 5 with low b and filter based eq section. Very transparent, I would say more so than the markbass I've recently acquired. It's not going to be much use in a decent sized venue etc but I'm very impressed and for me it's ideal, portability being my main criteria.
4kg, 8.8lbs according to spec on Bass Direct. Still nothing though! Already owning a micro head, just the speaker bit would be nice...
19. If it is a large inductor, is it possible the mass of it has caused one of the solder joints on the pcb to fracture? like a drop or a bump. A quick dab with the iron might be all it needs.
20. Is this musically related?
21. I doubt it happened in one quantum jump, but incrementally over the decade. I remember a trainee engineer friend raving about the production sound of UKs first album in 1978 I think it had one of the first recordings using Yamaha's big poly synth (could be wrong here, it was a long time ago!)
22. Good point! I was thinking of something that wouldn't propel the cones across the room with a few hundred watts amp hooked up to it...
23. Sounds like a Genz Streamliner might fit the bill too, but you don't get the free body-building course included..
24. I was thinking about Hoffman's Iron Law and was wondering if anyone was producing a really small, very hi-fi very low efficiency cab for use at home. I'm thinking that, with the relative cheapness of power available in micro heads into a really inefficient but high quality design, something could be made that would have a micro head footprint, sound great, and not be too noisy to upset the Mrs and neighbours...
