1. I played a Vintage reliced strat a while back, the frets could have been finished better, felt a bit scratchy.
2.
I've never seen another bass (or guitar for that matter) by US Masters. http://www.usmasters.com/basses.htm I bought my Fretless EP53 from fellow a bass chatter. But they don't seem to have any sort of representation in the UK. It's a lovely bass and plays as well as Stingray 5 Fretless I had a few year ago, anyway here's a pic. So I guess this makes a rare beast
You mean like these? Early serial numbers, 61 and 101, though the Lacewood one has a replacement fretless neck, and the blue one now has the Lacewood's birdseye and Pau ferro neck. Both from BobPalt on here. Cheers Bob!
3. I know just what you mean, but I don't agree, this doesn't sound like the run of the mill pop and will catch my ear for that. I'm easily distracted at work.....
4.
I'd love to see a "Dirty Loops shreds" version of this btw
It would sound like me doing my best!
5. There's more going on harmonically than most "bland" pop, and the arrangement is quite stimulating, especially compared with stuff that really IS a bunch of loops. I found it interesting to listen to more than once. I think "bland" is a bit harsh in this context.
6. [sub]This may sound overly simplistic, but I would just start by putting your existing Bose speakers either side of the stage in front of the mics, then you should be able to get more volume FOH without feeding back so readily. As I understand your problem, its feedback preventing you getting enough volume on the vox, not the PA running out of puff?[/sub]
7.
Frunt! Anybody remember them? I borrowed one before I got my Laney Linebacker.
I remember seeing an ad with them and Percy Jones. The amps had big metal heatsink/handles on the sides which I thought was a really good idea.
8. "but there's nothing like a bit of pressure to tighten up your playing" ... and your ringpiece!
9. These basses are as comfortable as any to play, and better looking than pretty much any headless bass imho
10.
Unbelieveable value too
Did I miss what the price was?
11. Did you stick with the chrome switches? A bit at odds with the "none more black" look.... Great job still, love the Crowley's banjo line too!
12. I can repair the tuner threads if they get stripped, I've done it on a couple of Jacks now.
13.
I think we made a couple of hundred last year, so why not dive in again. Funnily enough I was only thinking of this last night. Last year was in honour of the droopy tache I had on the EP cover 30 years ago. This year, dear I espouse the 'Charlie Chaplin'!?
lets see the picture!
14.
If this was a 19 string I'd be all over it.
tee hee!
15. Great playing! the hair is nothing LIKE Henrik though...
16. If you fret at the first fret and see the gap above the 2nd fret, cut the nut to about the same above the first fret. That should be a good starting point. I think most nuts are cut conservatively too high. As you said, if you go a tad too low you can drop a bit of superglue in and start again.
17. The action may feel high if the nut is cut a bit high. If the humbuckers have 4 wire connection (one pair for each coil) you could disconnect one coil for that jazz Pickup sound.
18. I'm fine thanks Bob. Hope retirement is suiting you well! In the end I did these myself: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215382-luminlay-side-markers/page__fromsearch__1 Quite pleased with the results. Thanks all for the other suggestions - anyone know how the Rothko and Frost ones compare to Luminlay, they are loads cheaper, and their light is too?
19. I soundproofed the rear third of my garage. Just enough room for a 3-piece, leave all the stuff set up and a Flats drum kit. Barely any sound escapes.
20. I had ONE rehearsal with a loud drummer, near his crash. He was wearing earplugs, so I don't think he realised how loud he was playing. This ONE practice has given me tinnitus.
21. Ok chaps, pretty much all done. Tips I've found out on he way: Pilot drill the holes to full depth properly - 1mm drill is good Hand held pcb drill will drill slightly oversize. Using a pin chuck might have more control Push rod into hole, hold sharp blade along neck and rotate rod to score all round almost flush to neck. This gives a cleaner break with less waste, so less filing later. The picture attached is before I tried this! I used the insulation tape to pull the rod out of the hole, added a spot of superglue to the end and re-inserted. Easy, but have some kitchen roll handy to wick off any excess - less finishing later. Drill hole in insulating tape to put over rod for initial filiing flush, I used 600grit paper to go flush then buffed with a nail buffing board to finish All in all I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. They are plenty bright when first charged. It's pretty hard to take meaningful pictures in operation:
