SE Bass Bash 2017 - with Steve Lawson and Davey Rimmer
SH73 replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in Events
Following the recent thread about stolen gear from a venue what security measures have been taken to stop this happening at bass bash?. Surelylanyards will be worn by attendees... -
What are your guitarists doing with regards to matching the guitar sounds on the songs you are playing?
I own a Fender mustang which came with Fender Fuse software. The amp has many presets and when connected to laptop yiu can tweak the sound. Yiu can also download presets from community. I found a sound which I tweaked and it is very close to Somewhere in Time IM tone. There are thousands of variations. I'm still experimenting with Amplitube 4.

Rotos all day long for me. Flats on p bass, round on jazz bass.

I bought pick ups from Irongear for my project. I haven't tested them yet but I will let you know when I do.
Erm - it works! I'm not really an expert on routers - this one has done everything I've asked it to though. I think especaillay using the brushing guide you need bits with longish shanks - but that might be a common problem/issue I think that the depth lock sometimes vibrates slightly loose. I've no complaints.... except if I were in a position to ask again I would ask folk who know more if I would be better with something that does a 1/2inch shank cos it was a question I was asking when I was looking for bits.
Cheers mate. I suppose it is the quality of cutting bits that matters.

I see you're working with Bosh 1400 ace router. I'm thinking of getting one. How do you find it?
-
Right, the work progress so far. I marked up the position for floyd rose and now it needs routing out.I've decided on colour. Once done I'll post the final picture. https://1drv.ms/i/s!AnEgrPnQ1p8Ib7_nIY5SJwNFljY https://1drv.ms/i/s!AnEgrPnQ1p8Icm8otMeLqv8GN18
I've got it. Very good. I'm using my Helix more these days but I'll never delete SVX.
How would rate SVX?
A mate has this in his studio...you record the bass clean/dry and apply the effect during mix/mastering. You can't get decent results applying the VST during recording. It's a lot of fun, mixing heads/cabinets, mic options and positioning, but there is a
I record my guitars and bass with vst straight away so I get the feel of e.g. an overdrive. This way I know how much to mute the strings. The Swedish guy on You Tube plays it dry and clean first then applies plug ins. I find it odd. I recorded two bass lines for two different songs. The same vst settings but one song was with a j bass the other song with a p bass. They both sit nicely in the mix.
May we know what the reason was for returning the guitar?
Faulty locking nut.

Nothing wrong buying online. I set it up to my likings. However, I recently purchased a guitar from one of the big boys shops and after 5 mins of setting it up I put it back in box and called then back asking for a replacement but eventually went for a refund. I'm not going to name them as they dealt with the matter professionally. This won't stop me from buyibg online.

I've always fancied big stage amps and cabs but never owned one. Well apart from a BW Peavey combo weighing a ton. I recently bought Amplitube4 and I am very impressed with it. The only downside is that to get full advantage of it you need to buy add ons from tgeir Custom shop. I am now thinking of getting Ampeg SVX plug in for my bass. I've seen good reviews on You Tube but would like some basschatters reviews uf anyone uses one. It would be used for home recording.

Good stuff. Sounds like local finests to me. Some thieving bastards probably lurk on this forum!

Basschat won`t allow me to attach more images?

Cheers chaps. Found a solution.
Have a look on the Seymour Duncan website - they have loads of wiring diagrams on there, which will also tell you which pots you'll need
Cheees. I had. There're so many. I ordered a wiring kit from axetec

I've done lots of research on potentiometers but it seems it's horses for courses. Therefore I'm asking you reliable basschaters for advise. I want to wire up HSS configuration for my electric guitar project. The humbucker needs a push pull volume. So basically I'm after either one volume one tone or one volume two pots. The question is. Do I need a linear or log pot.I've been advised that volume pot needs to be 500kohm and tone pit 250kohm.Any suggestions?

First two coats if primer applied.....so far so good
-
Not sure about red tortoise pickguard on surf green.Looks like Jimmy Hendrix had one.
-
Can't decide on colour. Thinking surf green with pearl white pickguard or white with pearl white pickguard. Marbeling painting might be harder than it looks. Any suggestions on colour?
-
Have you reported it? I would start searching e bay, gumtree, schpock and local pawn shops.
Certainly leave the undercoat on if you're refinishing it anyway. I've seen someone recently finish a guitar using magic marble paint on another forum - however it did take him several attempts to get it right, and levelling it out afterwards wasn't easy. (Magic marble is a paint that you float on water and then dip the guitar body into - you'll need a big plastic bin, enough to submerge the whole body if you're going that route) I'm not sure if I'd use gorilla glue anywhere. Afaik it expands in contact with water, including natural humidity. As far as removing the existing finish, you shouldn't need to. Just sand it all to provide a decent key
Thanks for advice much appreciated. The gorilla glue is 100 % once dried so should be fine for that missing flake of polyurethane.
I've had that on a japans squier - it was kinda this awful mess of bad basswood, coated in a plastic type outer that made it hard. I picked the body up secondhand and someone had taken a chunk of the plastic type layer off already - I ended up buying a cheap replacement body. My 2p if you haven't already taken it off - leave it and use the existing base to put your paint on - there's no need to take it back to the wood
I only removed a small piece of outer coating. I filled the missing bit with a thin layer of Gorilla glue, so no major damage done. Thanks for advice
