1.
Fetser was sick on the pots.
Poor fella - was it a dodgy pint? On topic though, I like Scott but I'm glad there was a jam towards the end. Otherwise he'd have spent half an hour saying 'buy what feels good'. Is anyone watching the prices of used Mendels?
2. Wow, that's my dream bass right there, if only I had some money / a more understanding wife / any inkling of playing ability I'd snap your hand off. GLWS ;-) Oops, darn it. Wrong thread...
3. I got a classical guitar for Christmas one year; I guess I was 6 or 7 at the time and it was way too big for me to play. That put me right off playing altogether. Many years later, with a few mates playing guitar, I bought a bass because I just prefer the big, warm, friendly sound they make. Also I like the thought of being part of the foundation of a song, rather than showing off at the front. I've never wanted to stand at the front and be looked at, that's for guitarists and singers, right? I'd much rather be in the shadows (!), holding the band together.
4. Rumble combos have got to be worth a serious look at, they generally get good press. I had a 'cheapie' combo before I bought my head/cab - a Hartke HA1200 'Kickback 12'. 120w, single 12". I think I paid £80, and it was an amazing amp; loud, easy to use with a great meaty sound.
5.
I have bought two Jack and Danny Jazz basses. Both were around £100-110. They look great, they play great and they sound great. As long as you can do a basic set-up yourself (intonation and string heights) then you can have a very playable, giggable (and recordable!) bass for the price of a set of pickups. <snip> That said, a second-hand Yamaha would be a very wise buy too. Or Ibanez, some great value well-made basses in their ranges too.
I've got one of each of the above, an upgraded J&D jazz (£150) and a Yamaha BB424X (~£200). The BB is the nicest imo, but was more money than the J&D. I'm still in the 'beginner' camp, and both basses are way better than me.
6. Shame lots of the pics in this thread have gone now This is my old, sadly missed, Bassman 70 and Peavey 1516E. Insanely loud and sounded great (with guitar too, not that we care about that...)
7. Still got my Paul Weller Stanley Road tour shirt, from about 1995/6 iirc. And it still fits...
8. A proper singer with a proper voice. Like her or not you can't deny that she just means every single word and puts 100% into her performance. And the vid posted above shows she's as silly as the rest of us at heart.
9.
What wonderful beauty and genius is the NHS...
Isn't it just that? Overworked, under-appreciated and underpaid, but still working miracles every day. Wish you a speedy recovery duck :-)
10. I use APC for all my mainland UK shipping, never had any problems (except they've just closed my local depot). Outside the UK I book UPS or Parcel Force via Parcel Monkey.
11. Invoice the customer for your costs. Be polite and explain that someone has to cover the cost of the damage, and it shouldn't really be the band. I would probably say though, that you don't stand (no pun intended!) much chance of actually being reimbursed for the cost of the replacement stand, but at least you'd have made your point. By the sound of the gear that went over, it could have been much, much worse than a broken stand.
12. I have to admit I googled Lexy Foxx to find out who he was... Turns out it really really isn't the Lexxi Foxx I think you meant... Ms Lexy Foxx has talents that Mr Lexxi Foxx might be impressed with, but playing the bass doesn't appear to be one of them, unless she can do it laying down... (Awesome bass btw, glwts)
13. I'll be at Herbie Flowers, Sunday morning, Brighton Corn Exchange with my Dad and my boy. Nice and mellow for a Sunday.
14. DG is a good showman, on and off stage; he's got quite a bit to say and seems very 'normal'. People like to feel connected with bands don't they, and he seems to be a good connector. I'm sure some of the Foos' popularity comes from this. I like them; I've got a few albums and saw them at the MK Bowl this year. It was a good gig, and I've been trying to get to see them live for a while now, so it was cool for that reason. Not the best or most dynamic gig I've been to, though I think some of that was down to Dave still being in a cast. Royal Blood, playing support, were as good as the Foos I thought. Their music is pretty accessible, which will mean that everyone will know or recognise some of their stuff, making it good cover-band set list material I guess.
15. The European Cymbal Mountain, coupled with 'the more notes I play the better I'll be' just left me stone cold I'm afraid. No warmth in the playing, imho.
16.
This has become an issue again, I've tried multiple Android phones with Chrome and Firefox, both are getting a 'missing plugin' box instead of an embedded video.
I've got this again too. Same browser and os.
17.
, and we could go out as the Fat Fighters - " the same, but heavier......".
The Fat Fighters - you must do this. Love it
I think there already is a Food Fighters tribute!
It's what they're called in our house, my 5 year old saw to that.
18.
Just look at that!
Bloody hell - it looks like something DARPA developed to knock out enemy radar stations! Awesome.
19.
Anyone suffer from ringing in the ears because I do? <snip> I went to a a gig where I had to walk past the stacks to get to the loos. When I was passing the singer screamed, which physically hurt my ears. Since then I get ringing in my ears after playing or attending gigs even at moderate volumes.
A similar thing did for mine too, one really loud gig in a small club where I stood at the front and ignored the discomfort. Constant ringing ever since. If I'm honest, I don't see the point in going to the quacks - what can they do? It wouldn't help me much if someone qualified told me I had tinnitus, I'd still have it. I've closed the stable door somewhat, by wearing plugs now in noisy environments, so hopefully it won't get any / much worse.
20. I bought a pedal board from Chris and, despite some courier-getting-lost shenanigans, it arrived in one piece. Chris is friendly and easy to deal with and I would happily trade with him again.
21. I bought some leads from Rich and, like everyone else in this thread, I can confirm he is a thoroughly decent chap. Prompt messaging, good packaging and rapid delivery. Thanks Rich.
