1. First some 200 grain sandpaper, then 400 then 800 grain. Finally some 0000 steelwool. Gunstock oil and wax, all done!
2. Our routine is Drummist plays, guitars turn up to be audible with drums, set bass rig to supernova.
3. I once emailed EB costserv asking if there was any hope of a fivestring roasted neck. Within 10 minutes there were two serious looking fellows in black suits and sunglasses at my door telling me to back the f**k off.
4. Did that work or do you need more assistance?
5. Marylin Manson's career choice is easily explained knowing that, as a child, he played the character 'Paul' on The Wonder Years.
6. Rosenberg Trio is the first thing that comes up, is that about right?
7. I'm addicted to my SR5, Verellen meatsmoke preamp, MXR bass comp. The SWR head I'd have to listen to some rivals (Glockenklang heartcore, ebs fapner, Mesa M6 or bigblock) to hear if they sound like I want them to. Otherwise the hunt for a second hand 750x is on. A 412 cab is mandatory. Basstown is out of business I think, but again Mesa or Glockenklang may be able to substitute. Tuner, envelope filter and power supply do not worry me.
8. Ashdown Bass-o-meter. It's huge, ugly, and will light up a black hole!
9.
Even if wood can be shown to have a perceptible effect on the sound of a bass guitar, what would anyone do with that knowledge? Indeed, what could they do with it, given that wood is an organic material and that every single piece will have have some unique characteristics, even pieces from the same species and quite probably even pieces from the same tree!
They would market materials for different types of music. Just like today, but with science on their side so you don't need to use your own ears or judgement anymore. You'd be a fool to disagree with SCIENCE! Science..ience..ence..
10.
I have a brand new MM Sabre with a mahogany body and roasted maple neck. As it may be the only one in existence there's unlikely to be anyone to back up my view on the sound. I'm told by gig listeners who are bass players it sounds very focussed (more so than the ash bodied variant), nicely bassy sounding, but still sounds recognisably Musicman. It has phenomenal sustain - probably the best of all my Musicman basses. I've also noticed it can be more bassy. And another thing, in a hot, sweaty gig, the neck gives off a fine maple syrup smell. So yes, I believe the wood of both the neck and body makes more than an aesthetic difference. Pete, you could email EBMM for details of your solid coloured MMs. However unless trans red, they're likely to be ash if post late 90s. People always say good things about the 2003-2005 ish USA Sub Rays - these have poplar bodies. I have a 93 blueburst Ray which is either poplar or alder but most likely poplar. It sounds different from the ash bodied ones also. And particularly in the upper register.
IF bodywood matters in this way, the finish and treatment of parts matter too. Your example can in no way be connected to solely the wood genus. You may believe what you want ofcourse, but feedback from punters at a live band situation on a limited run specimen is unscientific. Cool to get positive comments on a collector's item like that though
11. You may want to check the spelling on Cthulhu
12. Do you need a volunteer to take the burden for you?
13. It looks like a solid bass on the one pic. The tuners looks aged but the badass bridge doesn't, that's a bit sloppy. Fender ugly like only fenders do ugly, so for a fenderite I'd say a good buy. Shame the seller put a 0 too many in the price, hoping for a fool click 'buy' by accident? Better get six upmarket yamahas for that money. (Edit: skipped the palaver between first post and this, sorry)
14. Metallica is well known for forgetting lyrics, skipping a verse or chorus here and there, and of course being complete w***ers.
15. "Where" you too busy...
16. It's not any different for a .net (or any other) code monkey. Usually they'll just say 'I'm in i.t.' and people relate 'ooh I have a computer! Fun isn't it.'
17. Disgusting. I sold kidney, blood and bone marrow to have a decal on the headstock that the birds can fawn over! Musicians dragging random assortments of garbage onto the stage cheapens the experience for both band and public! We, the entertainers, are artists. We have standards to maintain!
18. Make it a video tutorial
19. Any good fix would require the pot to be removed from the body I think. In the hobby of converting war gaming miniatures it is quite common to use the tiny drill and wire method, although those objects never have any torque applied to them. The safest way I recon is to replace the whole pot. If you feel your soldering skills are not up to snuff perhaps there is a skilled electrics enthusiast near you?
20. +1 for a 212 GK is well known for rock/metal bass. The only 'right' thing to do is take a day off and play what they have in the music shops.
21. Most stuff peavey makes seems to be designed to withstand and strike down the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
22. Sycamore is the name of the tree, maple the name of the wood maybe? Same plant it seems.
