  1. I quite like the body shape, it's a shame the headstock looks so "Heath Robinson" as it looks like he used decent materials to build it, I would be tempted to chop the headstock off and convert it to a pretty cool looking headless bass?
  2. The seller seems to be inviting you to scam him! Paypal payment and collect only, you pay via Paypal, you send someone to collect the bass, a few minutes after it is collected message him to say you can't make it today and will pick it up in a couple of days.....he says "it's already been collected"....you say "not by me it wasn't"......you open a case with Ebay who always seem to side with the buyer, you get your money back and a free Rickenbacker....sadly it's a well known Ebay scam, I will never accept Paypal on a collection only item. I am not suggesting for a moment you scam him but he is laying himself wide open to it
  3. I guess I am lucky, the guitarist / singer / songwriter / dictator of Yodaclub has said on many occasions that when he writes a new song he is always really excited to see what bass melody hooks I will come up with, at mixing stage it's usually me saying "don't you think the bass is a bit far forward in the mix!" To be fair he is a very considered guitarist as is the drummer and keyboard player which is probably why we sound like we do
  4. Wow, I wonder if the seller was on acid when he listed that! I read the description a couple of times and still had no idea what it was actually saying!
  5. Brilliant bit of kit, it made 50% of the best sounding rig I ever owned, GLWTS
  6. Hi Steve, best share your location if you are looking for a local meet up or collection
  7. Just to put the other side to this, we played in Leicester on Saturday night supporting Mathew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit) Mathew and his band came straight over when we arrived, introduced themselves, offered us beer and to use any of their amps, they were brilliant, after the gig the drummer said "I love it when a support band is really good because it makes me nervous and makes me play better, you guys rocked it!" top comments from some top guys I know from previous experience support bands can get treated badly by the main acts but as per the above the reverse can also happen.
  8. "Freedom to screw you before you screw me" [sic] comes to mind, it's a sad world we live in!
  9. I will stick up for Mark Bass as well, I really like the tone of my LM3 2x10 and 1x15 Traveller set up, I have used it for many gigs and have always had compliments on it, I run the eq flat on the amp and all adjustments are just with the VLE and VPF controls, that said I only really like the sound of a P bass through the rig but irrespective of what rig I have played through I never seemed to get the sound I wanted out of anything other than a P bass. I brought a Mesa Boogie Subway rig last month as I always wanted to return to Mesa gear, if I am honest i really don't think the Mesa rig sounds massively better than the MB rig, yes there is a difference but not a huge one!
  10. I can offer up the OLP basses, especially the Tony Levin model, stupidly good bass to a few hundred pounds! I also think the Fender Precision Lyte is a hugely undervalued bass although asking prices for good examples are now starting to look a bit optimistic at times!
  11. Very much this, I have never really believed that I am as good as people tell me I am, I guess my mate who inspired me to play was and always has been far and away technically way more acomplished than me, at 16 or 17 years of age he could play all the John Taylor basslines, most of Bernard Edwards basslines and everything in level 42's back catalogue...however he still tells me I am the better player because I can write and create basslines he only wishes he could dream up....that has always seemed really strange to me but I guess you can learn so many other peoples songs that it stiffles your own creativity?
  12. That is sad news, 52 is no age at all, RIP Stacey
  13. It looks like a fantastic toy for Matt Bellamy of Muse, however in my hands I am sure it would sound like ten guitars being tortured rather than one!
  14. My introduction to The Fall was the excellent Bingo-Masters Breakout, I think it was on the Burning Ambitions double album, I heard a few other tracks which I liked, I saw a couple of live performances on TV (if that makes sense) which convinced me they were probably not a band I would want to see live, MES was a real character not really found in today's more bland pop stars.....Rip MES
  15. Wow, that looks stupidly cheap!
  16. I would always choose a music shop over online if I can I would always prefer to try before I buy, if I can I want to be able to drop in, have a natter and possibly a cup of tea, have a play with stuff that takes my fancy without an expectation to purchase, I want to feel that I am not just being sold to....if that makes sense. Hell, if you can offer the above plus a decent range of new and used gear, distance is not an issue, I will come and take a holiday near you so I can drop in! All of the above is what attracts me to a music shop! Go for it!
  17. Sadly you will probably never see the same return selling it as a complete bass than you will selling the parts separately
  18. I am not sure if yours is the same as on my 1024X as mine has two screws through into the body, if yours only has one screw which is not gripping the body anymore you could drop a bit of tooth pick or a shaved bit of matchstick into the hole which will allow you to screw the screw back into it I hope that helps
  19. I went into the bank last weekend, the cashier mentioned the fact that I had money in there that was not earning any interest and that there were other places they could happily move it for me, I agreed in principal so ordered the Mesa Boogie Subway cabs from Bass Direct I had been lusting after recently....job done!
  20. I have only tried the Fender flats but never took to them, I love that sound of a brand new set of roundwound strings, the one that is usually gone after the first gig! So I guess flats are never going to be my thing, the other thing that put me off them was the fact I always felt I was likely to give myself a friction burn if I slide about too much on the fretboard.....not sure if that's just me, just Fender flats or just an irrational fear!
  21. Strictly the £300 (new) end, the one he has for sale I would say the £50 starting price is £20 more than it is worth, to be fair they were very good guitars, I have a even cheaper Chinese made one, I have upgraded the pickups to Lindy Fralin's so it sounds decent, playing wise (and sound wise post upgrade) it is better than our guitarists £1500 Gibson Les Paul!
  22. I brought a Mesa Boogie D800 from a seller in London that should have been delivered on December 23rd yet somehow went missing in the post, I ended up opening a case with Paypal which at that point left the seller without either the amp or the money for it, fortunately shortly after Christmas they returned the amp to his neighbour as he was away, he returned from holiday in a complete panic! Happily he got the amp back and eventually we managed to get it delivered to me....this is exactly why any musical instrument of real value I sell is on a cash on collection basis only. I sold a G+L Tribute bass last year on Ebay, I clearly stated cash on collection only, a guy brought it and paid by Paypal and asked me to send the bass to him, I refused and reversed the payment, he still wanted the bass< i ended up driving some 40 miles to meet the guy who duly handed over the cash, job done, he then leaves me negative feedback because I was inflexible! I mean WTF!! Ebay removed the negative feedback and I banned the idiot from ever bidding on my items again! I brought a Yamaha 1024X late last year the seller wanted collection only but paying by Paypal it took a number of message exchanges for me to convince him that that was a seriously bad idea and explained why, he settled for cash on collection in the end but the tart still never left me feedback!
  23. So sad, RIP Eddie
  24. I so miss everything about my 1516 cab, quite simply the best sound I ever had, sadly my 51 year old back stops me having another one, GLWTS
