CS Precision... 3-tone sunburst sparkle??
Roger2611 replied to wateroftyne's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I have to say I really like that -
All the good songs have already been written. Now its all dross, has been for years.
Sorry Dave, I have to disagree, there is some fantastic new music out there if you look for it, The Temples, Mystry Jets, Ghostpoet to name but a few, of the older more established bands The Charletons are writing some of their best ever stuff at the moment, they may not be doing a style of music you really like but there is still some great new music coming through

Rickenbacker Bass Gets Outed For What It Is
Roger2611 replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
I used my CMI Rick at a rehearsal last night it was horrible to play and true to form after about 10 minutes the neck pickup stopped working, yet today it works perfectly again......a truely accurate copy! -
We did it really successfully some years back with a Levellers type band, we gradually introduced our own material which fitted really well with a REM / Levellers / Waterboys covers set and gradually took the covers out, we were one of very few bands at the time still getting gigs in well known covers pubs whilst mostly playing our own material....keep a few good covers in the set, make sure your own stuff appeals to the audience / following you already have I can see no reason why you cannot transition from covers to original music.....I still get a buzz now remembering doing a gig and realising the crowd were singing back our songs not just the well known covers!

Is there another Bass Selling Market better than BassChat.?
Roger2611 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
From my personal experience of selling on Basschat and on eBay, I'd much rather sell on eBay. The immeasurably bigger audience far outweighs any other problems I have encountered.
I have to agree -
Get well soon sir!

I cocked up last year and confused the Musician in Leicester with the Soundhouse in Leicester, the Musician had a lovely up to date TE rig whereas the Soundhouse has a knackered 1x12 Carlsboro combo with a volume control that has been snapped off and all volume has to be controlled by a gain control, so I left the Mark Bass rig at home, I rocked up to the Soundhouse and as soon as I saw it I knew this was not the venue with the nice TE rig, however the sound guy knows his stuff and most importantly knows the venues acoustics so despite using the remains of a Carlsboro amp I could hear everything I played and people commented afterwards as to how good the bass sounded!

Hi all, I have just been looking online and am struggling to find any useful information on this! I, no doubt like many on here like to record and produce my own music, I assume like most we are recording to a computer possibly via a guitar / bass amp and maybe going into the computer via an interface / some effects and outputting to an amp so counting the sockets used potentially up to 10 sockets being used at the same time, add to that a drum machine and a keyboard that maybe be sitting on standby and we start getting into quite a large power drain off a single wall socket, how are people managing to safely power so much gear? I have a modern fuse box designed to protect both me and the wiring and thus far no matter how many sockets I have drawing power at the same time I have never had the fuse trip out so I can only assume that the current draw is not too high otherwise the sockets fuse would trip? What is a safe amount of power draw on a single socket and is there anything out there designed to give multiple power outlets without overloading the initial socket? Apologies if this is viewed as being in the wrong topic so please feel free to move it to the appropriate forum if you want to, I just put it here as I thought it would be of interest to quite a few of us. Rog

Yeah, I keep getting it, bloody frustrating and if I am honest it does discourage me from visiting the site as often as I used to!

We used to do Back of my Hand by the Jags, great song to play and always well received

Funkee! - video playing basses worth from $100 to $10000
Roger2611 replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
It just shows you really don't need a £10.000 bass to sound good...that said I preferred the Fodera sound overall -
I was slightly frustrated that we didn't get the original bass solo in Everybody Dance, it's the "wow" moment in the song for me, I assume Jerry Barnes can nail it, it was my only small gripe at what was a fantastic performance
Were there any acts that anyone liked? I smell a lot of jealousy here. Could be wrong.
Chic were fantastic, Royal Blood smashed it, The Courteeners sounded pretty good, and the Killers doing Mr Brightside made hairs on the back of my neck stand up, I tried our Ed couldn't get into it, turned over to Biffy Clyro who shouted at me a lot but sounded ok, possibly not as shouty as Foo Fighters and Radiohead, oh Radiohead I so wanted to like the set but it just didn't happen....well there's my Glastonbury review for you!

I don't think the electric guitar is dying, it is evolving, technology seems to be paying a bigger part, look at band like White Stripes, Slaves or Royal Blood (on at Glastonbury yesterday) man with guitar / bass and a hefty amount of technical jiggery pokery creating the whole band sound and doing it very well, I imagine they will be the artistes inspiring a lot of younger players......maybe it's not the death of the electric guitar that we should be worried about maybe it's the death of the stand alone guitarist / bassist that is more of a threat!

I struggle with them, at times they seem so far up their own bottoms (The Pyramid Song being a perfect example) that it is painful, at other times sheer brilliance (Fake Plastic Trees amongst others) We watched most of it on BBC2 last night, I got so board in the first half that I turned over (albeit very briefly) to the Dizzy Rascal.....the second half of their set we found far more enjoyable.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
Roger2611 replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
Unusual serial number sticker, I would hazard a guess that, as with many of these, the original was virtually unreadable, maybe someone has just put a readable sticker on instead? Can you play fretless, of course you can and none better than a bass collection to learn with -

My old Tokai Jazz had heel end truss rod adjustment -
Fender Rumble 60 at a rehearsal studio..... really??
Roger2611 replied to markdavid's topic in General Discussion
The rehearsal room we sometimes use has some interesting gear, a 4x10 cab with 3 speakers in it, I will let others guess what ohmage that will be running at and another 4x10 with only 2 speakers working, you will probably not be surprised that I take my own amp and cabs! -
Removal of fake decal on painted metallic headstock.
Roger2611 replied to DanH71's topic in General Discussion
If you are very patient and use very fine wet and dry paper (I use it nice and wet) gently rub through the lacquer coat (best try and do this over the whole headstock otherwise you will end up with a patch, once you get through the lacquer the decal should disappear quite quickly but be so careful as if you go through the base coat you are screwed and will need to paint the headstock again....good luck -
Punters wanting to talk to you when you're playing.

Even more scary is the drunk bloke / "lady" who walks up to the front of the stage and just stands there staring at you, no movement, no expression, no nothing.....you are trying to keep going with the question "are they going to kill me. throw up on me, drop dead" countless other scenario's running through the mind, so far when it has happened they have tended to wander off eventually but on one occasion a rather drunk young "lady" fell face down on my pedal board and stayed there! That was odd! -
weird but far from wonderful

I am Groot! -
I owned a Pro? 4 last year (all white through neck one) I liked the look and sound of it, I thought it was quite Precision like in sound but I found it really unwieldy to play, it felt huge, I gigged it once and sold it on.

If a covers band, then a set list that shows the other musicians have a similar taste in music If an originals band then a similar taste in music would be key, You can work around people unless they are a total arse and for musical ability people can improve and I doubt any total novices are going to be starting a band
