1. I had a Gretsch with a snapped neck repaired about 5 years back, the guy who did it for me did say it was borderline as to whether it was repairable as it was a very clean break with "not much meat on either side to work with" he did a fantastic job with carbon fibre inserts, it has never moved a single millimetre since the repair. This break looks like it has far more "meat" to work with ( I think by that he meant surface area to be rejoined / repaired?) so it does look like a fairly straight forward repair however whether it is a bargain given the the above comments is a different matter, and remember if you did buy it and have it repaired it would always show and the resale value of the bass would be substantially lower than an un-repaired one
2. We used to start with "All the small things" by Blink 182, it starts with a nice "duh duh"
3.
98% Dad Rock...
Way too high, there has to be at least 20% Grandad rock out there! No mention of "Edgy Indie Pop" either, apparently that is what my band is....make of that what you will!
4. We played a gig in a notorious Corby pub called the Phoenix, it had apparently just been refurbished, which seemed to equal the pool table had been recovered to remove the bloodstains and the walls had been painted in am attempt to hold them together slightly better! We set up surrounded by the locals who made us feel most welcome with comments like "if you get in the way of the telly we'll kill you etc.!" We set up and sound checked with Stereophonics "Local Boy" when this very large, very drunk, very tattoo'd Scotsman staggered offer and yelled you had better play some F*%king Coldplay......then is a high pitched angel like voice sung the words "Fix You"...turned and staggered out of the pub never to return! We actually ended up having quite a good night and got out with all limbs and gear intact
5.
All that love and wear won't make a lot of difference to the overall sound though, in my opinion. I had a 76 P which I bought in 76 and played for many decades. Sounded great, looked great, went all creamy, had genuine wear etc etc. but this didn't make much difference to how it sounded from new. The Road Worns are really great and in my view vastly underrated instruments and I'd challenge anyone to tell the difference between one and a genuine late 50s P, all other things being equal. Any difference in tone will be marginal and I really don't think it's an extra eight grands's worth. My opinion, of course. And I do realise that playing basses and collecting them are two different (but not mutually exclusive) activities. The visual 'relic' aspect of the Road Worn basses is a red herring and largely irrelevant in my view. The important point is that they have a sound and a playability that the 50s Classic instruments do not have. They are the closest you are going to get to a genuine vintage P for £600 second-hand and are still a bargain at retail. Having said all that, if I were seriously loaded I'd have late 50s and early 60s P basses, 60s and 70s Jazz basses, 70s SVT rigs and 60s B15s coming out of my arse and cluttering up my many houses!
I think you are entirely correct, and yes, the roadworn's are definitely underrated, I don't know, somehow they just feel like cheating to me
6. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Hand-Made-Extremely-Rare-Electric-Two-String-Bass-Guitar-/322406502455?hash=item4b10ecd037:g:yLUAAOSw2xRYji8W I was tempted to offer £9.00 for it but seeing as it is collect only from Herne Bay I may give it a miss just in case it is the best offer the seller gets!
7.
Wow. I'd go for it - if I was loaded. Instead, I saved myself at least eight grand and bought a Road Worn. Edit: I see you did as well.
Yeah, the roadworn is fantastic as a deliberately reliced bass but it is still a reliced bass with a craftsman making it look old not genuine wear caused by years of love and gigging, given the spare cash I would have this one in a heartbeat whereas I am actually thinking of trading the roadworn out and sticking with my 50's classic and getting that nice and worn through years of gigging and love
8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1958-Fender-Precision-Bass-all-original-/232221466260?hash=item36117a5e94:g:E6QAAOSw241Yjccj Now that is lovely, I so want this bass, anyone want to purchase a kidney?
9. Always a shame to see the nasty metal truss rod cover, otherwise a cracking looking bass
10. Sid Vicious, anyone who can drop their bass off their shoulder swing it over their head and clout a troublesome American over the head without the audience even noticing he had missed a beat has got to be pretty cool in my book
11. I will throw in "Don't Stop me Now" Queen, bloody tough to do well though! "Sit Down" James, bloody hard to stay awake through! "Sex on Fire" sorry dudes but the crowds love it. "Chelsea Dagger" Flatellis or whatever and as mentioned by others Dakota and Mr Brightside, I always loved playing Killers stuff, great sounding songs
12. Sold a Bass Collection SB801 (possibly the only one in existence?) for £250 back in 1990 time, but I had only paid £275 for it when I brought it......I assume in these days of Ebay it would likely fetch a few quid more!
13. I was persuaded to go to Dracula the ballet with Mrs2611, I have to admit I fell asleep during the first act, got elbowed in the ribs, woke up and actually quite enjoyed the remainder of the performance....it's funny how she only remembers me falling asleep...none of the nice meal we had before hand or how enthusiastic I was about the rest of the performance
14. I use 45-105 Elites on my Precision basses and Fender 45-105 flats on the fretless basses, but I use 40-100 Elites on the Warwick and Stingray, always loved Elites
15. Stuart Morrow, legendary original bassist for New Model Army....now a builder in the Bradford area as far as I know
16. Normal ludicrous pricing for Music Outlet, I would be surprised if they ever sell any of the overpriced crap they stick on Ebay!
17. That's a good result and a quick turn around, it is nice to hear of some good customer service. I am still waiting for Stageclix to respond to a query about storing the unit with the battery charged or discharged, they replied asking which battery I had, I duly responded but never received a reply despite chasing a couple of times, I haven't used it in the best part of a year now and discharged the battery before storing it so if that was the wrong way to store it, it will be knackered by now.....I would recommend the product but not the customer service
18. RIP Peter, I always loved the song "where do you go to" all except the scary last line "because I can see inside your head" I always sung that with an evil "hahaha" at the end
19.

It's been years since I saw that video, I saw them 4 times on the Love tour, my favourite band of the time!
20.
I love the jazz I love. This clip encapsulates what people hate about what they think is jazz. Why does free improv so often mean a totally ridiculous abandonment of taste?
Is that really jazz in any form? I listened to the first minute, I thought they were just tuning up! I used to work on the BBC Jazz club with my dad many, many years back working with the likes of George Chisolm, Acker Bilk and many other names that I was too young to fully appreciate, I really loved what was seen as traditional jazz bands, my dad was friends with Clio Lane and Johnny Dankworth but I could never take to her music, that to me was improv type jazz which I can't take more than about 30 seconds of!
21. As a previous contributor said, the Bass Collection jack socket, I can use an angled jack plug with every other bass but, oh no, not the Bass Collection. Bridge saddle screws of the standard Fender basses, the end of the thread sticks in your palm or the useless thing gradually works its way down whilst playing, cocking up the action
22. Are you sure Pino played bass on this track, I used to work doing sound for a touring band playing all the big night clubs around the UK back in the 80's, all of the band members were session players of good standing, we played in Wales one weekend and I was introduced to a guy called Chris, bassist for Go West, who knew the guitarist in the band, I was chatting to him about Pino (No Parlez was the hit album of the time) and he said he used to share a flat with Pino and they had both taken up fretless at the same sort of time but Pino just blew him away? I have nothing to substantiate the above but it could explain why the song would have that Pino type sound and style?
23.
Basses that shook the world? I'm biased. . . IMO the first 2 on the list are 51 and 58 P basses, the third is the Jazz, the fourth is the first 5 string bass and the rest come next.
I would tend to agree, maybe the fifth would be the first fretless in the standard electric bass format?
24. RIP Rick, I was lucky enough to see them at Knebworth in 1990,a cracking band I can't say RIP to 2016, may you rot in our memories, horrible year
