1.
The amount of these I've completed on behalf of students I should have a degree in music myself....
Or at least be mentioned as a source or sauce......one or the other should do
2. I have a lovely pair of ex-install Void Acoustic speakers in the spare bedroom / office / recording studio, they are brilliant for any louder applications, they are however, not allowed in the lounge as they are a little large and very white!
3. Done, but I wonder if Paul McCartney should be in the last question? After all he has to be one of the players that will have influenced many of the players listed already?
4. We have tended to get 30 minutes as a support band
5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Thunder-1A-Bass-Guitar-/192167575182?hash=item2cbe147e8e:g:WPoAAOSwkShY~gDX Never seen one in white before and I have to say "I like it!" Decent starting price for once as well
6. We played a festival / fund raiser for the local cricket club the other year, it was on once a year only Saturday afternoon and evening, curfew 11pm, Sunday afternoon and evening curfew 9pm, small PA sited as far away from the houses as possible, they had a certain neighbour moaning by 4pm Saturday about the music and having called the police by 8pm, the festival was allowed to run it's course but the idiot complained to the parish council, result no more festival, no more cricket team, no more cricket club, land sold to developer for new housing, I hope the precious scumbag is happy with his new far closer neighbours!
7. We played a really weird pub a couple of years back where the bar area was raised and the pool table / stage area was down about 10 steps, I have no idea how it will have sounded up the steps but at best the speakers were at ankle height, it was really strange to be looking up at your "audience" well when I say audience I actually meant about 5 people in total....we didn't go back!
8. My only bass purchase this year so far has been a second hand G+L Tribute M2000 which, if I am honest, I am finding somewhat underwhelming at the moment, it plays really well but I am struggling to find a sound I really like
9.
I hope you truely want an Epiphone Thunderbird and not a Gibson Thunderbird. IMO these are two very different bass guitars. I've owned both. Many make the mistake of thinking the Epiphone Thunderbird is an affordable less expensive Gibson Thunderbird. It's not, it"s an Epiphone Thunderbird. Blue
Are they really that different? I tried an Epiphone last year and truely hated it, I don't tend to sell many basses yet got shot of that as quick as I could, I didn't mind the sound but the bass just felt huge and unwieldy I would imagine the Gibson must feel the same?
10. We supported Midge Ure a few years back and I was surprised to see he was using a Vintage branded guitar, ok, it was his signature model but still a Vintage branded guitar, I said" I assumed it was some custom shop version" but no, Midge just said "it is straight out of the box straight off the production line" He said "as far as he was concerned it played and sounded absolutely spot on and if it got broken or stolen he wasn't losing a hugely expensive antique guitar" For me that is some kinda recommendation!
11. A second hand Roland Bass cube would be a decent choice, the 120 watt is more than gigable if you can find a decent second hand one if not the smaller ones are fine and should easily be within budget
12. Reaper again, Yodaclub now use this rather than Cubase, I am getting more used to the look of it and I will be swapping from Cubase before long for my own recording work
13. I am a big fan of Elites, 45-105 roundwounds on everything (including fretless) other than than my USA Sub which is currently strung with Elites 40-100, I don't know why but I just fancied a lighter set on that bass
14. When you get paid for playing original music
15. I would hazard a guess on it being room acoustics, at least it wasn't the other way around where a certain note booms so badly you are worried the ceilings will fall down!
16. I always preferred the US release of the album as that came with Whiteman in Hammersmith Palais, Clash City Rockers and Complete Control on it but Deny, Cheat, Protex Blue and 48 Hours were not, looking at them both side by side they were very different albums Looking at the dates the US version wasn't released until 1979
17. It doesn't really matter how hard or easy a track is to get right, that feeling of nailing it will keep you inspired for ages....well done!
18. I quite like it as well, you could do some serious damage with the pointy bits! My only worry is the forward strap mount can't have a lot of meat to be mounted into?
19. Sad news, RIP Gary and our collective best wishes to his family and friends
20. Sorry not had time to read the entire thread but playing in a self appointed "edgy Indie Disco" band I have no actual idea what "Indie" is supposed to mean, please can someone define this mystical genre?
21. Mrs2611 comes to most gigs in her capacity of photographer, roadie, gear babysitter and official wine taster! With the old covers band the girls used to use it as a social occasion.
22. I love the USA Sub bass, I have owned 7 or 8 Stingrays over the years and had never taken to any of them, I still loved the looks but not the sound, I tried the Ray 34 and really didn't like that, anyway a £300.00 USA Sub came up last year so I brought it and, guess what, I love it, it is my main gigging bass now, so forward a few months and I was offered a 92 USA Ray with 3 band EQ and a maple neck for a sensible price, so I wondered, had I just grown into the Musicman sound of was the Sub something special? I used them both at a rehearsal and the band was in total agreement that the Sub sounded far better, more aggressive, more bite and sat better in the mix than the USA full fat Ray, so my question was answered, the USA Sub is something special! Get one whilst you can, mine is another one that is now permanently off the market!
23. EV SX200 or SX300 speakers, probably still the best non powered affordable speakers available, if you look long and hard enough you should be able to get a really nice used pair of SX200's for £250.00 mark
24. I think they all sound similar but all will sound slightly different, it is just a case of playing as many as you can until you hit on one that just sounds right, be that Squier, MIM, MIJ or good old USA or even a copy of.
25. I went to one where they conceded I was the best they had auditioned but unfortunately another guy liked Guns and Roses more than me so he got the gig....which was fine other than the band didn't actually play any Guns and Roses songs! They had the audacity to ring me up a couple of weeks later and ask if I would dep for them on weekend gigs because the new guy worked most weekends....I politely declined
