  1. Seriously, "functional" I have yet to meet anyone who uses 12mm gauge plectrums, you may as well beat the strings with a stick!
  2. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sai-Guitar-Amplifier-thing-Working-order-Old-and-well-used/202479092968?hash=item2f24b1c4e8:g:jhUAAOSw96ZbzxwZ Anyone else notice the slight issue with this listing....think valve amps and the importance of speaker load!
  3. I found the following attached to a advert selling a bass that cannot be mentioned on here hence the link not being shared: Chinese import. Plays perfect. Through neck. Still has protective cover on scratch plate. Virtually unmarked condition. Collection only from Ipswich Suffolk or arrange your own carrier. No PayPal cheque, bank transfer or cash on collection. Had too many problems with carriers myhermes are the best. For problems that is! So payment in magic beans is the only option!
  4. I have been looking at this one, it is somewhat unusual, I have never seen a branded Bass Collection bass like it, I doubt it has any SGC Nanyo connections but as Anzoid says I still kinda want it!
  5. Sorry to derail the thread slightly but what actually is a "quarter sawn neck" And what is so special about it? My CS63 has a quarter sawn neck but feels exactly the same to play as my 50's roadworn Precision
  6. Yodaclub tried it last year, we used some extra keys and backing vocal tracks from our "studio" recordings run with a click track to the drummer and the music to the PA, it wasn't a success, the drummer struggled to keep us nailed to the click track (usually down to the "light and shade" we like to build into the songs) and felt he was having to concentrate too much on the click track and far less on actually playing the songs, we knew the singer / guitarist likes to be a little fluid with arrangements, we do repeat the odd chorus and sometimes extend the endings.....we have always worked that way and tend to work off on stage cues, it works for us but we quickly decided the backing tracks added less than the hassle of them took away from our music.
  7. I was going to share it on here but the anti profanity filter spat me out
  8. I struggle with flats as I always feel like I am going to burn the tips of my fingers if I slide too fast, for that reason I have gone back to rounds on all basses including the fretless basses, I prefer the sound and feel. To combat the dreaded sticky neck syndrome (especially on a varnished / painted neck like my US sub) I spray a tiny amount of silicon spray onto a cloth and wipe the back of the neck, it cures the problem instantly, seems to last a good few weeks and, thus far, doesn't appear to have had any negative impact on the neck, meaning I can confidently now use the Sub as my main gigging bass with Yodaclub
  9. The S9 serial number on the neck with a "nice" unfinished truss rod adjustment hole on the headstock, about as genuine as a politician on question time!
  10. I have a custom shop 62 Precision heavy relic in 3 colour sunburst, it is fantastic, it is nice and lightweight, the colours have real depth to them, it sounds fantastic and, in my view, is definitely worthy of that custom shop badge, I recorded Yodaclub's latest single with it, sent the bass recording back to the band, at mix stage the drummer / producer and singer both commented on how good the bass sounded, they had no idea it was recorded using that bass, other than the bass it was exactly the same amp / speaker / mic set up I had used for previous recordings....so there is certainly something in the sound that non bass players even noticed! I paid £2400.00 secondhand, it is the most I have ever spent on a bass but, to me, it was worth it. I would stick a picture up with the post but I don't appear to have one on my laptop!
  11. Don't worry if you don't win tonight's Euro Millions, it's been on sale on Ebay for at least a year with no takers, it will still be there in another year!
  12. I would go back to my old Mesa Boogie 1516E cab and Trace Twin Valve head so I could trash my back again and would hopefully have the sense to buy a decent Precision bass and a tuner pedal, but knowing me I would waste thousands of pounds trying everything but a Precision bass before realising that actually it is the prefect bass for me!
  13. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-DEFIL-Mambo-Archtop-Bass-Guitar/332817873822?hash=item4d7d7dbb9e:g:mGwAAOSwhnhbqQ6r Saw this on the bay today, I have to say I think the aesthetics of the body are gorgeous, if fact it looks great all the way until you get to that headstock which is a total abomination!
  14. I have brought a Tokai Thunderbird and a Redsub 335 semi acoustic type thing bass, both to be fair were dirt cheap, neither have improved my sound in any way, both have reminded me exactly why I like Precision's so much, I have also reminded myself why when I brought an Epiphone Thunderbird I sold it after one rehearsal, horrible unplayable things! Note to self......If it aint a Precision bass, you aint gonna like it!
  15. None of my herd have neck dive either
  16. Duncan at Phoenix Soundworks in Earls Barton, Northants is very good for all things musical repairs wise, he has an excellent electronics wizz that sorts the complex stuff for him
  17. How do you find things like this?
  18. Was this in the Northampton area? I spotted it the other day but didn't look at the location, I was talking to our guitarist on Wednesday and mentioned a Thunderbird, he said he had sprayed an Epiphone in sparkle purple for a former bass player!
  19. Really interesting posts here especially talking about losing the amps and just going IEM monitoring, I would really like some kind of tutorial into how best to integrate this into a band situation, Yodaclub doesn't have it's own PA, we always use the venue PA so are very much at the mercy of the sound engineer, but as we are massively reliant on close vocal harmonies going In Ear would be brilliant for us but I really don't understand whether I could incorporate that into how we gig? In the rock band I have just joined the new guitarist has just gone out, on advice given, and brought a 15 watt Fender valve amp rather than a 50 watt Marshall which should now mean that for pub gigs we are going to have to work around his volume to make the songs work (I am sort of hoping that will keep the Marshall stack equipped rhythm guitarist under control) our drummer is not especially loud so I am hoping we can keep levels very sensible for the pub gigs
  20. I tend to "end to end cables" until short enough to tie a very loose knot in, I have not had a cable fail in many years, but then I do buy good quality cables when I need them, I am currently using a couple of the Roland badged cables, they seem to be pretty decent and have out lasted our guitarists Planet Waves cables
  21. I would like to nominate this afternoon's "festival! My second gig with this rock band, we arrived to find it was an outdoor gig rather than indoor as discussed, the stage was small and completely uncovered, the PA was basic to say the least. The lead guitarist rang in sick with a stomach bug and couldn't play so we had to radically alter the set, which meant playing the majority of songs I had never played before with the band and in a couple of cases never even heard before! As soon as we started playing we found out that the power draw was too much for the generator they had which meant every 20 seconds or so the PA shut down and restarted which meant I couldn't hear any vocal cues that I desperately needed and just to top it off one of the songs I had learnt from the CD they now play out of D rather than E as per the recording, this was basically a bass / acoustic guitar /vocal duet with no drums to cover anything, the drop from E to D meant everything I had learnt suddenly moved elsewhere on the neck, I nailed it towards the end of the song but there were definitely sections where I couldn't find exactly where I needed to be. The only upsides to today were it didn't rain and there were only about 10 people there!
  22. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/old-bass-guitar-not-sure-a-friend-thinks-it-could-be-japaneze-or-usa-about-1970/192656460362?hash=item2cdb384a4a:g:ZIEAAOSwjexbmkFv Spotted this earlier, it is a strange one, surely no one has gone to some elaborate length to create that headstock so it looks like the maker is Guild in some form but the body and general appearance smacks of late 70's Japanese basses like Status, Cimar, CSL and the likes, I assume if it is a genuine USA Guild then £300.00 is dirt cheap for it...I shall watch it with interest
  23. At 20 years of age it was girls, drink, playing pool and playing in / watching bands, some 32 years later, I have got the girl, done the drinking, still play pool every week with my lad and spend far too much time and money still watching all the bands I loved 30 odd years ago and still find time to play in two bands as well! Music still plays an absolutely massive part of mine and Mrs2611's life and I cannot see anytime soon that it won't continue to be so I guess I have been very lucky to have married a wonderful woman who willingly shares my love of all thing musical all except Laurie Anderson's "O Superman" she hates that song!
  24. Blimey, I just had a look at my owned / sold / kept book....and it is a book! It would take me days to list everything I have brought and sold, thankfully not all were bass related but with guitars, amps and keyboards I am over 10 pages.....I brought a Redsub semi acoustic off Evilbay the other day just because it was dirt cheap and I fancied trying one! Like I need another bass in the house!
