Thanks ead, Is the tone range pretty wide from the Alnico version?

Looking at a new short scale ACG with a PB pickup, could anybody tell me the differences in sound between the two magnet types? If you have a preferences for one or the other I would be glad to hear them.

New bass options, Vigier/Status/ACG/Strandberg choices hmmmmmm

I'd go with ACG, great basses which can be customized to fit your needs including scale length. His pickups are also excellent. -
ACG 30.5" short scale bases are excellent so I would suggest having a chat with Alan Cringean.

Thank you SpondonBassed and drTStingray I will carry out a few experiments with the aid of our guitarist. I will just have to take into account any additional distortion from the DHA VT1 valve 'output'.

Low level is best, I have lost the high and part of the mid frequencies of my hearing.

It was rumoured Toyah and her band used practice in the old theatre in Cannock just before she launched into the charts. My works colleague has a photograph of himself taken with Toyah when she played the Robin Hood 2 in Bilston a few years ago. He said she was very polite and was happy to talk and mix with the audience.

Do the comments above suggest that if you have an amp with passive and active inputs it does not really matter which one you use? I ask as I have an Ashdown Retroglide with both but run my passive bass through a DHA VT1 Spitfire and use the passive input. I don't get the indicator lamp lighting up as I keep the input level below the required threshold. Would there be any benefits to using the active input instead? Unfortunately I do have hearing loss so hence the question.

Hi Tomm, Welcome to Basschat and thanks for explaining the reason behind the philosophy of the Stinger - very interesting.

Quite stunning Mr eude.

I also had an ACG for my 60th and can recommend them highly plus you are buying UK made product.

Short Scale 'Thing' (23" scale Headless 4 string)

Probably need at least 3 passports to play a bass with that finish -
Welcome Rewi, we are a friendly bunch (most of the time) so I hope you enjoy the site.

Great memories there BrunoBass.

Keep the Wal and buy a Harley Benton shorty as a second bass and modify as you go along. More fun and you don't need to feel bad about selling the bass. Second option sell the bass and give Alan at ACG a ring and discuss your requirements with him.

It's Scott Devine and he has a neurological condition called focal dystonia that makes his fingers/hand shake when they are not touching something. The gloves help to stop the movement by acting as a support. Scott explains it better in one of his You Tube videos.

I like the spalted beech option, the black hardware just seems to blend with the wood better for me.. -
I have all my short scale basses strung with Newtone Platinum Nickel roundwounds these seem to work on all 3, Harley Benton P bass shorty, Scott Whitley SWB-1 and the ACG Skelf short scale. Alan at ACG supplies his basses fitted with Newtone strings.

Was always impressed with the Peavey Microbass I had a few years ago. It held it's own at band practice a number of times.

As they say ped 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'

I had a Spector Legend 5 string which is an excellent bass, well built good sounding and not that expensive.

I agree. I think it is a sign of the times, courtesy has a low priority with some people in this rush-rush world.

Yep, been very pleased with the modified Harley Benton short scale P bass. Sometimes the low end basses can 'feel' high end with a little fettling
