1. I have hearing aids in both ears and luckily as part of the package I had a free set of musicians earplugs which give a 19db cut. At band practice or a gig I take the hearing aids out and put the plugs in as there is no point in making the situation any worse. If it's any help to anyone there are a wide variety of hearing aids available and some may benefit your situation more than others i.e. over ear or in ear utilising or blocking the ear canal while others sit in the ear canal with an open transducer. It is suprising what is on offer and it is worth discussing you requirements and needs with your consultant. In my case I have high frequency loss and also suffer from tinnitus so the over the ear with in ear canal transducer met my needs best.
2. Genz benz Shuttle 3.0 8T or 10T. I use the 8T, it's extremely compact, very light and around 175w. The head can be detached or partner with another 8ohm cab for more wattage.
3. Like planer listening to one concert was all it took so I paid for the problem. After the concert there was ringing in the ears but it never stopped so went to the docs and was diagnosed with tinnitus. Had it for around 12 years and it has it's good and bad days but never goes away and can see why it would drive people to despair. Started to get hearing increased hearing loss last year so saw a consultant and found out I could not hear the first/highest 4 levels of the test due to the damage, not good, so now have hearing aids. The one 'good' thing is that as part of the package I had a free set of 'musicians' earplugs with a 19db cut - it's never to late to protect what you have left.
4. Another recommendation for Newtone. I use the Platinum nickel roundwound strings as there is less finger noise and they sound smoother.
5. I've got the original SWB-1 it's a good bass and spot on for the money. I have tried it with flats and liked it but stuck to Platinum nickel wounds from Newtone who made me a set of short scale strings (ACG of this parish also use Newtone).
6. Try a pair of Sennheiser HD201 if they are still available. Low cost but good sound quality.
7. I have tinnitus and suffer with blocked sinuses (Rhinitis). I have been prescribed Beconase as on an ongoing prescription it does work, but I also use Sudofed style decongestants and menthol throat sweets in order to try and reduce the problem when I have a cold. There is also a decongestant spray called Beconese which does not have steroids in it and is vailble over the counter. Unfortunately I also have damaged hearing so eventually I went to a consultant familiar with both problems and now have hearing aids chosen so as not to cause any excess problems with the tinnitus. The tinitus itself can vary from bad to almost non existant and the brain can be trained to lessen the problem, it is worth talking with your GP to see if you can get refered to a consultant for this type of treatment. It realy is a matter of finding the best compromise for your symptoms.
8. I have a Levy's leather strap available with a suede backing that did not move much when it was hooked up to a Fender jazz bass if that s of any use to you. Basschat rates if you are interested.
9. I did a similar thing to Trueno on my cab (Ashdown) to get the front section off the floor but used pipe lagging foam. I filled the inside with a core of harder foam from some electronics packaging in order to keep the lagging circular, then taped round it all. I added non-slip carpet tape to the outside to stop it moving around when in situ.
10. Condolences to his family our thoughts are with them.
11. Thanks for the heads up ricksterphil, much appreciated.
12. I will be 60 this year and we are currently recruiting a singer, guitarist and keyboard player and we have stated that we aim to gig no more that 2/3 times a month and all are happy with this as, like me, they also hold down day jobs. Keep up with the photography it's a great hobby and one you can increase (or decrease) your interest in depending upon your circumstances. You could even make a living out of it.
13. How about a Genz Benz 3.0-8T its not a tilt back but that's easily solved.
14. Appreciated Steve. Our best to all those who were affected.
15. Some good suggestions (and pictures), I thank you all. Please continue. Does look like the Harvest and mcmach's suggestions are in pole place at the moment with Heistercamp being worth a call. The reason I want leather is the fact that it's different almost bespoke long lasting material and being natural no two pieces would be the same, so ideal as a special birthday present.
16. Hi mcnach, UK preferred but all suggestions taken on board.
17. Thanks to all so far for the suggestions. Thanks with putting me right on Harvest they are in the frame if a UK source does not work out. I'm based not far from Walsall which was known for it's Equine leather goods I'll see if there I anybody there that can help. Please keep up the suggestions. BR Alan
18. Hi All, I've got a very significant birthday this year and fancy leather gig bag for my ACG Skelf short scale bass. Thinking of Brexit and wanting to keep a British theme does anybody know of a UK manufacturer or leather worker that may be willing to make one? I have looked at Harvest from America and made that the benchmark for a UK made one - anybody able to help? Many thanks in advance. Alan

NBD - ACG

Nice one ead, worth the top rating on the BASS scale. My Skelf SS is fitted with the John East active/passive eq and you will find it has a wide range of tones. Ive found it an almost seamless transition sound wise if you switch between the two options while playing.
20. Welcome back MartinB. I hope your band is successful.
21. Let us know how it plays T-Bay it will be good to get Basschatters review.
22. I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 which has an 8" speaker. An excellent practice amp with the capability of being used as main rig with the addition of another 8 ohm cab.
23. I have a 5 string bolt on Legend and have had an 4 string NS94 both are excellent to play with very good build quality and the response to questions from Spector has always been good. On both the active electronics have given a pretty wide tonal range with the NS94 probably being the more 'modern' sounding of the two.
24. In agreement with the amp cab theory here. I currently use a Markass 250 Blackline with an Ashdown Mi10 to good effect. So, Grangur's suggestion of a Barefaced 1x10 and Markbass LM3 sounds like a good option.
25. I purchased the set from the site - Absolute bargain and great communication from Ken.
