I have used valves in hi-fi applications and tube dampers are a good bet if you like the sound of the valves you are using. Try searching the internet or companies like Watford Valves.

I have two basses a £400 and a £1000+. They sound different and play different with the more expensive having better playabiity out of the box, but one could not mimic the other sound wise, and yes the £1000+ plus luthier built model is worth the extra.... to me, to someone else I don't know?

Hi have used both the Rotosound and Fender (7150) to good effect on my jazz. The Fenders where probably the more 'woody of the two and the Rotosound more harmonic.

I have them on a short scale bass and find the tension and feel better than others I have tried. Sound really suits the bass which is a ACG Skelf short scale, should mean something if a luthier is supplying them as standard.

The reason I asked the short scale question is that Scott Whitley's SWB-1 is only 7lbs in weight has passive or active options and would be well under your target price. Plays better than many basses costing twice the price.

Hi Tim try sorbothane feet available for various weights using 4 feet per unit. Foculpods are popular but you can get alternatives on evilbay. An alternative would be sobohane sheet.
