1. Wonder why the Bass Player and Roadie ones are cheaper than the rest? Bargains?
2. If you can find one I would suggest the Ashdown Mibass 10 or 12 inch cabs. There have been some in the classifieds recently.
3. Well done. Sounds like a great place to work.
4. Hi T-Bay, welcome from another South Staffordshire (I only live around 12 miles away) bass player (very loose term for my ability). Go for it and beat the problem, it will focus your practice and playing no end.
5. Also look at Scott Whitley's web site as he has video lessons on the subjects thebigyin has discussed above. Above all tell your partner no to be worried and go for it.
6. Leave Burntwood alone it's a fine place
7. I chose my ACG for a few reasons. Although not a custom build but a stock 'prototype' it was exactly what I was looking for firstly short scale, 'real wood', great design and with the excellent comments from customers about Alan on this website it was a no brainer. The other thing is that when asking questions or looking for advice you are speaking directly to the person building the bass and you get the feeling the answers will be in your best interest. Its first class service. It also feels and plays better than any mass produced bass I have had.
8. Unfortunately I think a lot of people forgot that for Brexit to work we have to buy more British goods. The good thing is that for bass guitars we have some first class manufacturers/luthiers in this country, just think of the ones on this site.
9. 150 euros at Thomann according to the 'Buy At' Google link
10. I am below average basically using root notes but try to lay down a good strong backline with the drummer. I am prepared to learn but just don't get the time. Been in a band for 15 years we have gigged and been paid and that is one of the things I wanted to do. Would love to be better and I practice when I can but most of all I enjoy playing at the level I am at but my aim is to improve if I can. I want to devote more time to music when I retire. Got to have a goal...
11. How about a supply system mounted within a pedal board that utilizes plug-in connectors fed from a plug-in busbar system to feed standard pedals but also offers a backup supply (battery or ups), rcd and surge protection?
12. Just looked it up on the t'internet - very nice... Have you decided on the full spec yet Mike?
13. Have you got a particular bass in mind Mike?
14. Hi Mike, the string action is still set as it was supplied so looking for a local luthier.
15. Hi Mike, Just fitted a set of Newtone 45-105 Platinum Nickel strings with a hexagonal core to my SWB-1 and find the string tension 'right'. They do not take a great amount of hand/finger effort to move them to get volume or attack and seem easier on the hands than the GHS strings Scott supplied as standard. ACG also use Newtones in a 90-110 gauge and these also feel right on the ACG short scale I have. You could ring and have a chat to Neil a Newtone as they can produce custom strings that may suit your requirements.
16. Have a look at ACG in the Affiliates section - he I showing a Custom J type on his website. Going by the short scale ACG I have it will be an excellent playing bass and built in the UK to.
17. I've got a Spector Legend 5 string for around £300 if your friend is interested.
18. Grangur: "Ahhh, but what you're missing is that there must be discrimination between the fuse in the lead and the fuse in the amp. That is to say that if there is a fault in the amp, the 3amp fuse inside the amp must blow before the one in the lead (designed to protect the lead) even gets excited enough to even think about blowing. (There's a technical term for this, but i can't remember and I can't be arsed)" Would that term you were thinking of be Backup and Discrimination?
19. Disappointed that nobody mentioned: Single core over multicore Capacitance Frequency response Silver over copper cable Gold plated connectors Etc The 'Dark Side' will trembling with fear for not discussing all these fine cable attributes.......
20. I think the Legends were more of a P/Jazz bass shape (mine is) while the Rex is the same shape as yours.
21. Lovely guitars ead and the ACG/East P Retro is a cracking active/passive pre-amp.
22. Hi Aidan, ell done. I hope you are successful and I will certainly look to popping a bass in for you to work on when I get up your way.
23. If you can get on with a 30.75" short scale then look at the SWB-1 from Scott Whitley (www.shortscalebass.co.uk) which may suit your requirements. He also has a range of secondhand basses.
