1.
Though it doesn't directly answer your question... but the best live bass mix I've ever heard was Nick Fyffe with his band The Temperance Movement. He just uses a REDDI for FOH signal and uses his Fender Bassman rig as a monitor of sorts, I couldn't see a cab mic anywhere. I've seen them a few times in various different sized venues (most recently main stage at a major music festival) and each time his tone was just on point - probably the only time I've been to a loudish gig and been able to hear the little bass tone nuances you hear on a recording. So for me, if I had the cash, i'd definitely invest in a nice DI!
Just been listening to The Temperance Movement off the back of this thread, great stuff
2. There's a Mayones Be5 Exotic in the sale forum at the moment, I used to have the four string version and it was superb.
3. Geno Washington And The Ram Jam band tonight in London as part of my mate's stag do. Don't know the band at all, but funky blues sounds like it will be fun.
4. I want to buy all your basses Taz, they look amazing Good luck with the sales
5.
My preference is for a great sounding bass rather than a versatile bass. I look to get the best sound I can and stick with it. Most people I've heard don't actually change their sound much when they're playing.
+1
6. I wouldn't listen to the vast majority of our setlist out of choice, but they're a lot more fun to play than they are to listen to. Fortunately, most people don't agree with me
7. Glass of scotch when I get in and some inane TV to help me unwind - was Mock The Week on Saturday night. I like to keep a couple of those Chicago Town microwave pizzas in the freezer too incase I'm hungry post-gig
8. Yeah, we do Runaway Baby and Treasure which are a lot of fun, also Locked Out Of Heaven on one of my dep gigs. Like you say the basslines to his songs are a lot of fun to play, nice to find a modern song-writer/producer who really wants the bass to be playing something more than root notes.
9. Did you record any of the albums with it? I remember lusting after this very bass when you did an interview for, I think, Total Guitar back in the early 2000s; really wish I could buy it now, but being a grown-up occasionally has it's downsides. GLWTS
10. Yeah I know what you mean about trying to keep it to five, it's just the five I would pick tends to fluctuate with my mood
11. Without giving it too much thought Justin Chancellor Jeff Caxide Geezer Butler Paul Turner Bernie Edwards Edit: Upon greater reflection, Alex Webster, Rex Brown, Troy Sanders, Martin Mendez, Shawn Malone, Stuart Zender, Caleb Schofield and Juan Alderette could all easily make the list too depending on my mood.
12. There might be a very good reason for it, but the string alignment over the pickup pole-pieces looks way off in this photo Might just be the angle, but not the picture I'd choose to market my new instrument
13.
Good call. All these turn of the century US beige bands. Can't tell them apart!
Funny thing is, I used to absolutely love Jimmy's Bleed American record, but I've never listened to anything else by them. So I'm now listening to the follow up album Futures on Spotify and........it really is a bit dull
14.
We have been here before. I can't remember the name of the bass player, but it was an American guy, played for someone like Third Eye Blind, had Fender custom shop instruments with left-handed/reverse headstocks, citing the longer string length (albeit on the E-string) resulted in better/more agreeable tension across the set. I think the consensus was the guy was speaking out of his bottom.
Jimmy Eat World I believe

16. That pickup placement makes a lot more sense to me than the standard L2000 position

N Sadowsky BD

I've lusted after a Sadowsky for years and that's a beauty, congratulations fella
18. Not seen one of those before, love the pickup placement, what is it?
19.
I know what it looks like. I kinda picked up on that myself, but why no Modulus? I didn't think he was a Fender guy at all. It's a standard tuning song, so?
He used a '64 jazz on the Stadium Arcadium record, so I guess he likes to use them live sometimes too. Shame he doesn't seem to play a Wal much anymore.
20. Juat found out Witchsorrow are playing tonight in Aldershot, so booked a ticket for that. Haven't been to a gig where I'm not playing in ages, really looking forward to it.
21. I had some great customer service from EBS, it's also well worth getting in contact with them directly in Sweden if you have an issue. I had an issue with a second hand Bass IQ pedal, emailed them and ended up getting a really quick response from the Technical Director, who's also one of the owners of the company. I'm a big fan of EBS kit, and it's good to know the support's there if you need it.
22. Looks great What are the driver sizes? I'd love to give a multi-driver cab a go
23.
Valerie. For which I apologise. I really thought she would have come over by now.
Or at the very least said why not
24.
How the hell do you get to trial one of those "fanny" basses though? I'd love to find out what they're like for myself.
Take a trip to Bass Direct in Leamington-Spa
