How can you tell a good drummer and a bad drummer apart?
Graham replied to Phil Starr's topic in General Discussion
Did you hear about the bassist who was so depressed about his poor timing he threw himself behind a train? He'd have been fine, but for the drummer falling ontop of him. -
No it doesn't - it says, like the NG2, that the pickups are made in Canada, and then at the bottom, like the NG2 it says the country of origin. If you compare the two lists, the components are in the same order, suggesting that there's a standard form that Dingwall use for their specs on their marketing. I'd still agree it's a lot of money for a Chinese manufactured instrument, but then aren't Lakland Skylines a similar price and have similar specs - US made electronics, sent back to the States for final set-up/inspection?
Gutted to have missed Nathrakh! They were ace at Bloodstock a few years ago.
They're one of my absolute favourite bands, and for my money the best live act going; looking forward to the new album at the end of October too.

Saw Anaal Nathrakh and Voices in London last Friday, brilliant, chaotic, brutality from Nathrakh, they're my favourite live band, love seeing them. I thought you'd enjoy a photo of their basssits rig, he played a battered Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird through it and the front of house came from a Behringer BDI21. Didn't sound very articulate, but in the context of the band it worked. [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/20160902_192217_zpsuxl2fcpy.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Conversely, the bassist in Voices used an American Deluxe Jazz five into a Kemper, powered modelling system and flight-cased Orange cab, I remember Stickman on here commenting that support acts always had more kit than headliners and this seemed a case in point.
...I HATE!!! it even more when a band member says "can we drop this one"
Oh god yes, worst was on a dep last year, struggled with a Stone Temple Pilots song - wasn't that hard, just couldn't click with it for a while. Then get to a rehearsal a month or so after getting the set-list to be told "oh no, we just soundcheck with that one and haven't been playing it recently." Raging.

Rehearsal room: "Can you lock up when you leave, please?"
Graham replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
This used to happen at a place in Brighton. We were never accused of theft but one time the guy asked 'er ... did you move the piano ... someone moved the piano ... was it you?'. It wasn't us. Another time we arrived and all was locked up and no one there. We phoned the guy and he sent a taxi with the keys to let ourselves in, He turned up an hour later. Then there was the time the ceiling fell on the drummer.
Where was that? As I've rehearsed at most of the places in Brighton. -
We played at Lingfield Park Racecourse once, singer says there were 6k people there, I think there were fewer than that, but it was a big crowd anyway. Other than that, played one of the tents at the Download Festival back in 2008, tent was rammed and was an amazing experience.
I'm currently doing that, trying to bring my three fingered playing up to a decent standard.

Why have I only just discovered Iron Maiden / Steve Harris??
Graham replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
I've always wanted a chance to gig The Trooper
I did that on a dep gig last year at a pub that was celebrating that they'd just started selling Trooper beer, they were quite pleased we played it. -

Enjoy I'm pretty envious of you getting to hear those classic albums for the first time. -
My favorite Metallica bassist, had the best lines IMO I'm not sure I'd trust that first site the OP linked to, under the Rob Trujillo section, they left off the Fernandes Gravity he's playing in the picture of him...............
I met up with Lozz yesterday and had a little play, what an awesome sounding rig! Fits his pick playing punky sound to a T! I was thinking of buying his old BF cab, but Karlfer beat me to it.....is there anything Karl HASN'T owned????
It's alright, you can buy it off Karl in a couple of weeks.
just a quick 75 minutes at the end of the day but i thnk we got away with it again
Looking good Last night was a pub we like to play, crowd was a bit sparser than usual there, but I guess bank holiday sunday is a bit un-predictable down south (my wife tells me up Middlesbrough way it's THE night to go out). However, once the crowd warmed up they were really into it and we played a belter, so had a real blast. Had some really complementary comments at the end, and hopefully picked up a couple of private bookings off the back of last night. One punter had clearly drunk a few too many shandies as he managed to fall into the monitor and knock over the singer's mic/Ipad stand not once, but three times; the singer handled it far calmer than I thought he would, fortunately no damage to his ipad. I was really happy with my tone last night, after the pedalboard problems I'd had on Saturday I stripped it back to just a tuner and used the footswitchable onboard drive of my MB500. It sounded great and got very positive comments from the singer and guitarist; I'll spend some time adjusting the pole-piece hights on my pickups to compensate for the lack of compresssion and will need to work on my right hand technique a little now that safety net's gone - but improving your technique is only a good thing and I don't need to carry a pedalboard for now, which is always welcome.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Graham replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
Got my V7-5 yesterday. In the Evening, ve've had a Rehearsal. I have to say, I am very impressed. The Bass came flawless and with a perfect Setup out of the Box. "Made in Indonesia" 4,85 Kg. (Not the lightest, but a good Strap will do the Job..) I have ordered @ Thomann. I ordered on Tuesday, the Bass was delivered on Thursday. A small Card named as "Quality Inspection" was made and signed from a Guy (or a Girl) from Thomann. At the Rehearsal, i've "played" a little bit with the Preamp/Eq, wich is mighty. I still prefer, running it through my Tonebone Bassbone, but using the Mid Control from the Heritage-3. Rest of the V7 EQ was flat. Nontheless, I found, the Heritage 3 Preamp is a good Tool and you easily can dial in a good Sound. Man, I wish 35 Years ago, when I started playing Bass, such Basses @such a Price were available.
That's gorgeous, if I'd just glanced at it without seeing the headstock I'd have said it was a Sadowsky. -
I used my four string for one song last night - Treasure by Bruno Mars. Not played the four live in about a year, since I got the five last summer. It was easier to play that mainly slapped song on the four, so I plan to keep doing that; but it felt so weird to be playing a light, thin necked instrument and felt like part of it was missing. I'm definitely more at home on five strings

Nice wedding last night, good crowd, very sweaty though - it was very humid. We had a drummer we'd not used before, his playing was tight and solid, but he was young and inexperienced, so I spent a lot of the gig helping him with the arrangements, but he did well overall. The new songs we've recently brought in are starting to sound good, particualarly the Coldplay one - Adventure Of A Lifetime. Had some problems with my pedalboard unfortunately, switched off the envelope filter and then my signal started dropping in and out. Ended up bypassing most of my board and just used the tuner and the switchable drive circuit on my GK head. Not ideal, but got me through the set - hopefully just a dodgy interconnect cable, I'll try and work it out this afternoon before tonight's gig. Tonight is a pub gig at our local, hopefully be a good one with the bank holiday. EBS Neo 110 - Can anyone identify a replacement driver?
Graham replied to bagsieblue's topic in Amps and Cabs
When I was having trouble with an EBS part I emailed them on this address: and got straight away got a reply from one of the directors/founders - Mats Kristoffersson Don't know if that's the address you were using, but if not might be worth a go. If not, Bernie Goodfellow might be a good person to ask, if you haven't already. -
It was either Blink 182 or AFI at 16
The research sent me straight to Allianz's specialist music equipment insurance. £13 a month for £10k worth of peace of mind is a bit of a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.
Do you get public liability cover with the Allianz?

... the day I got caught! (Stingray preamp battery)
Graham replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
OT, but the Tescos next door to work had that Brewdog Nanny State in today, so I'm drinking one at the moment; it's pretty good, I'd certainly have it again.
