3. Nice, I really like the look of these single H Dimensions, be particularly interested as to how the low B sounds
4.
When I watched this, I thought that Dave Mustaines singing was quite hard to tell apart from the squabbling kids and there were places where the squabbling kids were an improvement over the original vocal IMHO
5. I saw the singer from Orange Goblin fall off the stage at The Concorde 2 in Brighton, which is a decent distance. It didn't seem to affect him, I'd guess he had an alcohol cushion
6. Two gigs yesterday, a village fete first 18:45 to 20:45 and then the singer and I packed down our kit asap and jumped in the car to drive across town to play a wedding 22:00 to 00:00. No breaks during the sets either as we needed to get off from the first gig quickly, and started the second late so just played through. Good reaction from both gigs, got a tip from a punter at the fete which was very nice of them. Had a drummer we'd not played with before at the first set, but he's a pro player and was great, even if we had to play All Right Now with no kick drum as the spring on his pedal broke during the intro; he managed to repair it though whilst we played a stripped down Big Yellow Taxi. If you've been reading my new amp day thread you'll have seen I was a bit lukewarm about my new Gallien-Krueger head, all such doubts are blown away, I LOVED the sound I had at the first gig through my EBS cab - powerful, tight, warm and articulate tone. At the second show I didn't have my cab, so ran effects send of the GK into the return of a crappy Peavey 1x15 combo as a stage monitor and DI'd into the PA for FOH. Ontstage sound kinda sucked, but hopefully was good in the PA
7. I believe the particular stink under discussion was not me.........however, fragrance is in the nose of the beholder
8. As promised, a cover of Tornado Of Souls by Megadeth to show the tone, the amp EQ was pretty much flat and I had the bridge pickup solo'd and in series. You will notice my children didn't understand the concept of keeping quiet whilst I was recording, so you can hear them arguing about playing Polly And The Wolf, dancing, my wife vainly trying to get them to be quiet, and in my favourite part, my eldest asking if I stink. Never work with children or animals. http://youtu.be/dCne6Ivo7V4
9. Gallien Krueger do a line of powered cabs
10. So, Friday was a wedding at a small country pub for one of my regular dep gigs, five piece (guitar, bass, drums, keys, female vox) doing pop covers, mostly from the 80s onwards. The playing space was fairly confined and there were a lot of hard surfaces, but generally had a decent number of bodies on the dancefloor to soak up some of the reflections. once I plugged in I was surprised at how much more low end there was through the cab compared to playing through headphones, I was expecting more, just not as much as this; I ended up turning up the tweeter on the cab and cutting the lows and low mids far more than I expected to. It was a good sound, just not the crisp, tight sound I was expecting. still, the rest of the band were happy and I was certainly loud enough with the master set to about 9-10 o'clock. Really, I'd have liked more time playing with the settings, but not really the done thing at a wedding. On to Saturday night, this was back with my regular band which is a four piece with a male singer doing rock and pop covers from the 60s onwards. It was an unusual venue in that we were in the room of the swimming pool of a rich bloke's house, so we were under a low ceiling section, which opened out into a higher ceiling above the pool and then lots of windows around the edge of the room. Also, very hot and humid, so acoustically not a very normal room. Sounded okay, if loud, where we were, but I'm not sure how it sounded out front. I kept the settings pretty similar to the previous night, but found that pushing the input gain a bit harder got me closer to where I wanted to be tonally, the best sound I had all night was was when I hit the boost channel for a solo, which makes me think cranking the gain a bit harder is probably the way to go - I still wasn't often triggering the clip light, so should be able to go further next weekend. All in all, I think it's a great piece of kit, and plan on keeping it for some time, it's just I'm finding transitioning from the EBS EQ and gain staging over to this more of a learning curve than I was expecting. I'm re-learning a Megadeth cover which I'm planning on recording to demo the amp over the next few days so I'll post that up once it's done.
11. Friday night was a dep gig for a wedding at a small country pub in Sussex, played well, crowd were definitely up for it, was a good night. Or rather it was until packing up when I found the can of energy drink I'd had in my bag had leaked and there was a pool of poundland brand red bull in the bottom of my cables bag. So, spent some time cleaning everything when I got back. Saturday was a private party for a rich fellow who does a garden party once a year for his family, was a good gig but we were set up in the swimming pool, which made dancing difficult and was quite warm and humid; but we played well and the audience was appreciative, if mostly outside the room we played in. 12. TBH, if I had the cash I'd have probably bought the Fusion as from what people have said on here, it does seem to be a bit more versatile. However, for my tastes: clear, solid state punch, this is definitely ticking the boxes.
13. Thank you sir
14.
I'm sure you'll love it. GK have worked some magic with mb range. What cab is it going through?
An EBS Neo 2x12
15. Cheers guys, loving it so far, two gigs this weekend, so will report back after playing it through a cab in a mix
16. And here we are [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/20160630_194750_zpsaxcpr9ts.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> MB500, not gone very deeply with it yet, just on headphones, but sounds really crisp and clear, which is what I love in an amp, so I think we're on to a winner here
17. Ordered a new amp as there's an intermittent fault with my HD350 and with a run of wedding and party bookings coming up I really needed something more reliable. Anyway, go to bed children, I want to play with my new toy!
18. They look pretty cool, check out Alusonic too http://www.alusonic.com/
19. I got told last Saturday night that I was like Mark King, I'm not that familiar with Level 42, but I don't think I could be much further away! I suspect that as it was the end of the night, a few shandies had been consumed and he was the first famous bassist the punter could think of. Very gratifying to hear though. I also got told once, at the same venue as it happens, that I was like John Taylor. I can see that one a bit more as whilst I'm not that into Duran Duran, I, like Taylor, am a fan of Bernie.
20. I've been giving this some more thought, and keeping the numbers down, I'd go with: Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse, Blotted Science, Conquering Dystopia) Bernie Edwards Justin Chancellor (Tool) Joe Lally (Fugazi) Webster and Edwards because I want to sound like a cross between the two of them - disco and death metal may seem like an odd combination, but I think mixing the technicality of DM with the groove of disco makes a really good combination. Chancellor because I really admire him for his creativity and tight playing in uncommon time signatures. Awesome tone too. Lally, as his tone on Repeater is the best going; some cool, interesting playing on that record too. Edit: forgot to say, that's four, with the last one a revolving door for whoever I'm loving at that moment
21. Anyone else given this a spin yet? Quite enjoyed it, I'm not familiar with their entire back catalogue, but I'd put it in a similar style to Amplified Soul, which I also really enjoyed Nice to see Stuart Zender on a few tracks, though I actually enjoyed the bass more on the tracks he didn't play on. The stand-out song for me was Everyday Grind - different feel to the rest of the album, but really worked.
22. I've not heard of them before, but have added their greatest hits record to my Spitify list and look forward to listening to it at work on Monday.
23.
Linus Klausenitzer - Obscura (mind blowingly good)
Absolutely! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mesr2siegRg
24. Thanks for posting that Blue, real nice feel to it
25. Up to a grand second hand gives you a lot of options, like these from here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/286003-lakland-darryl-jones-skyline-5-white-pearl-with-john-east-deluxe-preamp/page__pid__3066143#entry3066143 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227821-mayones-jabba-5-custom-price-drop-l950/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/283363-sandberg-california-tt5/page__pid__3068797#entry3068797 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/286896-mtd-kingston-5-string-l550/page__pid__3073328#entry3073328 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/285247-yamaha-trb-1005-cort-c4-ltd-price-drop/page__pid__3076617#entry3076617 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/285287-warwick-double-buck-5-string-made-in-2006-germany-l700/page__pid__3060674#entry3060674 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/284875-music-man-stingray-5-l890/page__pid__3071032#entry3071032 Personally, I think the Yamaha TRB1005 for £350 is an absolute steal
