1. Great song, thanks I'd forgotten about this, used to play along with it a lot at uni, might do so again now.
2. I quite enjoyed that, more so than I thought I would; not sure about the slap part in the verse, sounds a little shoe-horned in, will probably grow on me though. I'll probably give the album a go when it's out, got to be better than the last one.
3. My two, just because. [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20160502_144114_zpsnfimqj3n.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20160502_144138_zpsqj3scy7c.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
4.
My advice is if you find a G&L you bond with, never sell it. Otherwise you will every now and again have a wave of regret wash over you. Why oh why was I so silly? [polite version]
Just this, my SB2 isn't getting much use now I'm playing five strings again (loving my Tribute L2500), so on paper selling or trading it for another five string would make sense. However, the number of people who seem to regret selling one of these really puts me off moving it on. Those jazzes look great, would love to give an MJ5 a go
5. I used to play with a pick when I was in a metal band, I'd started off playing finger-style as that is my preferred style, but switched to a pick when I struggled with the speed and then found everything just sounded better - playing and tone - in that band when I used a plectrum. For me, the way you approach playing the bass with fingers works better for the way I want my playing to sound. I find my playing has more "groove" and is tight with the drums when playing with fingers, wheras it's more "precise" and is tight with the guitars when playing with a pick. Of course, there's no reason you couldn't play with groove and a pick, but that's just the way it naturally feels to me, and could all just be placebo effect.
6. Hoping to be there, it'll be my first; just need to make sure no gigs come in that day.
7. I'd rather not part with my G&L SB2 as whilst I don't play it much at the moment, most of people who have sold one of these seem to regret it later
8. Just wanted to share some good customer service from James Kitchen at Diago, one of the brackets that held the handle of my Gigman pedalboard sheared off at a gig last weekend, so I emailed them on Sunday and asked if they cpuld replace the bracket. Gt an email back Monday morning, apologising for the problem and offering to send out the brackets free of charge. They arrived today and now my pedalboard has a working handle again, great to see the level of customer service you want and expect. Before [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20160424_102925_zpsfmg6drmf.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20160424_103045_zpszh9o94bv.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> After!
9. Really want to go to the London date, no money at the moment
10. I wouldn't go Orange Terror for metal, I've seen bands use them and the bass was an inarticulate, low frequency rumble under everything else. I'd look at something clear sounding and solid state: Hartke HA series, EBS, Gallien-Kruger.
11. Brilliant gig last night, played a surprise 30th birthday party at a yacht club in Chichester. Lovely crowd, who were up and dancing from the start, quite posh, but I guess that's what gave them the confidence to be on the dancefloor early on. Slightly marred by someone dicking around with the mic the singer had put in the room to record with, but all sorted out okay in the end. As an indicator of how posh it was, when loading out I spoke to a woman who said, "must get my kit on, I'm kyacking home"
12.
He didn't write "Eternal Flame", he wrote "Manic Monday".
Thank you
13.
Although I was never particularly a big fan of his music, the guy was an unquestionably huge talent. Wrote a lot of songs for other artists too, and a wide range of artists at that....
I'd forgotten that, he wrote Eternal Flame for The Bangles, which really is just a perfect pop song
14. Love this performance http://youtu.be/6SFNW5F8K9Y
15. http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/21/prince-dead-at-57/ The above website are carrying the story that Prince has died today, nothing on BBC or the Guardian yet, so will wait for confirmation from another source. I've never been heavily into Prince, but I know a fair few on here will be upset if it's confirmed.
16.
Black Water Park - Opeth
Good choice, for me their best is The Moor
17. From the top of my head, these, though i dare say I've missed some obvious ones Crowbar - Planets Collide Mastodon - Blood And Thunder Cave In - Retina Sees Rewind Bob Marley - Is This Love Porcupine Tree - Trains
18. Nickel Lo-Riders are my favourite strings, however I actually use D'addarios as they're very good, and a lot much cheaper.
19. Still got mine: Doesn't get much use, but it's sentimental value is far higher than it's market value
20. Last night was a short notice gig at a social club in Shoreham, as it was short notice we had a dep guitarist. Lovely bloke and a great player, particularly on the funky stuff, but not used him before so obviously had to keep an eye on arrangements, but eye-contact and on-stage communication sorted that out. Audience were sat quite far back, but were appreciative and very friendly, had them up and dancing in the second set. Good on-stage sound too and wasn't too loud. I'd been looking forward to a weekend off, but it turned into a really good evening. Only downside was the tunnel being shut on the A27 which meant the journey home took longer than it should have done.
21. Sounds nice and articulate there, warm but with controlled lows, which are all good things to me
22. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Cave In etching
23. Yeah, my HD350 has an overdrive circuit built in, which I also have on at about 12 o'clock. I go for a really clear, punchy tone, but use the drive to cut through the mix, it's not really audible out front
24. That looks superb, a string short for my tastes though
25.
You'll be surprised the amount of bassists who still use the smiley face setting.
I was watching a live DVD of ISIS yesterday and was surprised to see Jeff Caxide had a smiley face on the graphic of the amp he was using. I really like his recorded tone, but couldn't really hear him a lot of the time on this DVD, that may have been why. Conversely, it might be because he was using a Stingray and SVT 2, which I would think is a very mid-range focused set-up to start with.
