I really like playing Long Road To Ruin from this album, really nice bass in it, nothing flashy, just works
Been listening to The Interrupters album a whole lot, some really great ska stuff on that record.
I enjoyed that record, you can certainly hear Tim Armstrong's influence on it

Music predominately, I quite often don't hear lyrics, just the melody of the vocal. This was evident when there was a wholly inappropriate song being played in an ice cream parlour we'd taken the kids to recently, and the wife was amazed I'd not heard any of the lyrics. The staff then wished I'd not heard them.... I wonder if it's to do with the years spent working out songs on bass, or the years listening to extreme metal where the lyrics are often unitelligible anyway. There are exceptions to this, Frank Turner for example, where the music is pretty simple, but the lyrics are really interesting.

I got an email from a Bowie cover band - The Thin White Duke who are looking for a new bassist; I'm not looking for another band at the moment or would be all over this, so a good opportunity for someone on here maybe? They rehearse in Pease Pottage, near Crawley and just off the A23/M23
Go on then...a couple more...
What is it that is not to like? They are remakes of standard basses, most of which, in one format or another are in his arsenal...?
I played a couple of PT4s and a PJ4 at Bass Direct a couple of years ago; whilst being very well made instruments and having superb tone, the necks were quite narrow, so that may be an influence.
I think Flea's contribution is the Stingray. You really have to be on your game to know he played a Wal on Blood Sugar and only select tracks where everything else was done on a Stingray 5. At no other time has he used a Wal bass - I don't think he has used one live. Common knowledge this!!
He did play it in the video for Suck My Kiss, which was shot in the studio, so i'd imagine that helped.

I love playing that, I'd say getting the feel right is more important than nailing the runs exactly as the record
Just another thought - the power of endorsements... I guess it's not all about the individual themselves being able to shift gear - but the suggestion that a brand is good when a punter opens a catalogue and sees a load of pro players in there... Generates the "well, it must be good if all these guys are using it" thought pattern...
I'd agree with that, for example Hartke, I always thought of them as cheap but cheerful - good sounding kit, but aimed at the the lower end of the market. However, I probably gave them more interest when I saw Victor Wooten, Geezer Butler and bunch of other big name players were using them.

I was never a huge fan, always respected his creativity though and I do really like Space Oddity

Try it in the passive input, if it's too hot, move it to the active
Easy to reminisce about gear long gone but I'd have to say: Rig: EBS HD350 into a Neo 212 cab
That's my current set-up, and it is superb; I'd probably go as far as saying the best ever, however I'd need to A/B it with the EBS Mk 1 Fafner and Proline 4x10 I used to have to be sure, as that was just fantastic. As far as basses go, I think currently have the best I've ever had too with my G&L L2500 and SB2, however my old Mayones custom Be4 was an excelent instrument, and sounded brilliant through the Fafner/ cermaic 4x10

Thanks for that Meddle - that ties up more with what my ears were hearing

Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
Graham replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
I have two, well three, but one of those is my first bass - a Squier Affinity Precision that's covered in stickers and is just kept in the bedroom for me to noodle on first thing in the morning sometimes. My others are G&Ls - a '95 American SB2 and a more modern Tribute L2500 Since getting the L2500 last summer I've barely played the SB2 and can't see myself buying another four string, I don't plan to sell the SB2 though as it's handy to have a four string that looks like a Fender available. I play 30-50 gigs a year and take the SB2 as a backup, but have never needed to use it, the L2500 gets we used for the whole set of pop and rock covers. I haven't noticed any wear in the instruments, but I take fairly good care of them; I think I may have put a small ding in the headstock of the SB2 by connecting it with a cymbal though. -
The Next Generation Of Players To Inspire.....?
Graham replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Chris Wolstenholme from Muse and Troy Sanders from Mastodon are probably two players from the rockier end of the spectrum who'll be influencing the next generation of players. -
Lovely facings on that,I'd not considered sycamore as a top wood before seeing it on a Wal, but it looks really classy.

Congratulations
We played a hotel near Gatwick, nice place: 4 star, £90 a head party and it was chaos! The hotel lost everyone's pre order of the menu so people had to wait an hour and a half for their mains, some of them didn't manage to get desserts. They didn't have enough bar staff so it was about a ten minute wait for drinks. It delayed our start by 45 minutes so we had to cut our first set down. The audience were thoroughly p'd off by the time they came into the dance hall, we got them dancing in the end but it was bloody hard work. Not surprisingly lots of complaints to the hotel managers etc I reckon they'll end up giving refunds - better luck next year eh!
Blimey, where was that? As I'm local

We were at the Social club in Crawley Down, good sound, good audience, happy landlords, well paid, overall a great night. We did 3x 1hr, so not as long as Blue's usual sets, but longer for us and they were still asking for more when we finished at 1 We played well, the drummer we were using last night has found his feet with us now and is used to our arrangements and our tendancy to change things on the fly. Also, my amp behaved itself last night, which was a real relief.
Toilet Man(TM)
Sounds like the world's most disapointing super-hero To the OP, a little overdrive can, counter-intuitively, add some clarity to your tone and help you cut through. This might be what the guy meant, but doesn't sound like he approached the subject with you very well. End of the day, are you happy with your sound, and does it work in the context of your band? If so, ignore all others
