1.
Loved my EBS rig...from what I can see so does everybody else. Customer service is excellent too.
I too love mine, and I'm having very good results with their customer service department. However, I have heard, though not had first hand experience, that their new HD360s, TD660s and Fafner IIs are not nearly as good as the older kit Would still live to give a Fafner II a go though. Gallien-Kruger seem to have maintained a good reputation since the 80s
2. Hello from over the border in West Sussex
3. Turned out to be really good, was a bit of a scratch band as we had a dep drummer and a dep singer who's command of the lyrics wasn't always perfect. However, he's a great showman so he kept the crowd happy. It was a social club, but was full-up for a 60th birthday party. Like I say, a bit scratchy on the vocals at times, but the singer covered it up fairly well and I think people were lubricated enough not to care and turned into a really fun gig.
4.
Well I'm no expert but the way it was explained to me a long time ago was if you think about it like a multi band graphic eq for each pickup, then at one end of travel the graphic is in the 'classic' smiley shape, and at the other end its in the 'frown' as you turn the knob you gradually go from one to the other. The good bit is that its still musical at both ends of the scale and with two pickups, two filters and a pickup pan, the tonal possibilities are almost endless.
Awesome, have fun with that
5. Steve Bailey?
6. That looks fantastic, how does the filter pre-amp work?
7. Hope to be there this year, as I'm dying to try an ACG
8. I once gushed at Miranda Sykes who was playing upright bass for Show Of Hands; I remember telling her how much I liked her playing on a recent album and how tasteful her note choice was. She seemed both pleased and unnerved at the same time
9. There's an SVT II-Pro for sale on Facebook at the moment for £850 if that's of any interest It's on the UK guitars, bass, amps classifieds group

wrist ache

In fairness, I probably should have warmed up more before jumping into black metal riffs, but my left hand was just so uncomfortable making chord shapes, and keeping them static; definitely a bassist at heart

wrist ache

Finally broke out the guitar for some writing this evening, and oh my goodness my wrists aren't thanking me. They're so used to bass that chords and picking feel so wrong. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but uncomfortable at the moment.
12. We did a gig last Saturday, just put back the start time until 10 when the England game finished, that way everyone was happy
13. The problem with doing things "ironically" is that you're still doing them
14.
All a bit passive aggressive isn't it? You've put enough detail in so anyone reading your post can work out who you're on about but decided to moan here rather than have a word with the basschatter directly or leave feedback - poor show!
Indeed, wasn't hard to work out which bass you have - looks lovely, nice maple board - and what amp is for sale. The thing is, in the amp sale add, the guy openly says he doesn't need a new amp, but got it in a trade and is trying the recoup the difference between what he traded the bass for and what he wanted for it. Hardly a first round here.
15.
Very much influenced by the classic 70's prog acts but not sounding overly dated (to me).
I was listening to Feel Euphoria at work earlier and that sounds like a good description, Porcupine Tree is probably the closest reference point I'm familiar with.
16. Perhaps he's just put it on at a higher price than where he actually values it, so he's got room to negotiate downward and still get the price he wants?
17. I've liked what few bits I've heard of these guys, where's the best place to start?
18. Last night was a belter, went on after the Rugby, but despite the disapointing result the crowd were up for it from the start; I think there's something in starting a bit later. We played really well, much better than the last time we were there, we got rid of bass bins and reduced the number of mics of stage which sorted the feedback problems we'd had last time. I was really pleased with my bass tone as well, clear, crisp and punchy - just the way i like it - G&L and EBS really works for me I'm also firmly back in the five string camp now, I know they're not for everyone, but just works for me. Best bit though was seeing my mate who as the best man at my wedding, haven't seen him for ages and he came down for the Rugby and the gig.
19. Just made a Spotify playlist for all these, will give it a spin in a bit http://open.spotify.com/user/grahamrsmith1985/playlist/7oemh86etYzxX7Ej1nY4Du
20. Looking forward to reading through these later, not going to help my Wal GAS though......particularly as a bonus is looking less likely this year
21. I've not looked at the individual prices, but that sounds like a good deal, if you were looking to move up from your first Affinty Precison and practice amp, you could do a lot worse.
22. Yeah, her bassist was pretty much the best thing on that show.
23. Not sure on the string spacing, but a Yamaha TRB1006 should be available at that budget and is a superb instrument.
24. I'm lucky that not only are my work happy for me to listen to music, so long as it doesn't interfere with my job, they're also happy for me to piggy-back on their wi-fi, so I can stream Spotify for a lot of the day. As a result, I listen to a lot more music than I otherwise would. Given my preferred genres of music - a lot of black metal, doom and grind - being married with two young children would preclude me from listening to a lot of music for my own pleasure at home.
25. When I was playing metal, clarity was the most important thing in the amp tone for me, I had to fit in with two guitarists playing in drop B with high gain amps and a fast and heavy drummer. I would suggest keep the bass as sounding as clear as possible, with potentially a little drive, though not saturated, to help cut through; to this end, EBS/Gallien-Kruger/Hartke would be who I'd be looking at depending on budget and taste.
