1.
It all looks pretty normal factory standard mess The GL drawing is fine, follow that & you'll be OK, your sketch I'm not seeing very well. All the blacks to 1 common point is fine. All you need to do is desolder the existing neck pick up wires & replace with the new - what's different about the new pick up wires? The white, yellow & green wires you describe sound right. Meter set on suitable range < 1000K check the pick up wires (after disconnecting) & compare to the new - probably 10K ish. Also check the pot across the 2 outer tags should be 250 K ish from centre tag to either outer, turn 1 way to zero, other way to 250 K.
Thanks matey, am reassured that the rest of it looks functional if lacking in elegance! I'll try the new pup and see whether that cures the ill! The new pup I've been sent has one white and one black wire (normal-ness abounds here) the pups that are installed have one white and 2 black wires each...what confuses me is that the new one isn't identical to the ones that are installed...?!
 2. I got a lovely JB-2 Tribby recently and it plays and feels really good (especially for the money!), only snag is that the neck pup does nothing, not even a crackle when I turn the pot, nothing!! I've been sent a replacement pup and vol pot from the retailer but on opening it up the wiring doesn't look like any jazz bass wiring I've ever seen (or like the JB-2 wiring diagram that's on the G&L website!)...there are more wires from the pickups than the replacement I've been sent too!! It's confusing my little non-electrical brain!! Here's a link to the G&L JB-2 wiring diagram http://www.glguitars.com/schematics/JB2_schematic_drawing.pdf It looks enough like a standard Jazz bas wiring diagram that I recognise it! Here's a pic of the wiring on my JB-2 All of the black wires from the pickups along with the earth that goes to the bridge and the tip connection for the jack socket are soldered to the top of the casing for the neck pickup pot! The white wire from the neck pup goes to the middle peg of the neck pot (looks normal to me) The yellow wire from the bridge pup goes to the middle peg of the bridge pot (looks normal to me too) A green wire goes from the bottom peg of the bridge pot to the middle peg of the tone pot (this doesn't look right to me but the tone pot works for the bridge pup so...?) I've sketched a schematic of what the wiring actually does (hopefully it makes some kind of sense) Questions... Is there any wiring reason why the neck pup does nothing at all? Should I rip all the wiring out and start again with a more standard jazz bass wiring setup? (I'm tempted to do this so I can get some better pots in there) What checks should I be doing with a multimeter to work out whether it's th epickup or the pot that's faulty (if the wiring looks ok)? thanks bc
 3.
One charge to rule them all, One charge to find them, One charge to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
4. I've used http://www.cclonline.com/ as their prices have been excellent over the last few years...
 5. Happy days matey! Long may it continue for you!!
 6. On a bass I've played a lot I know exactly what notes I'm playing, with my newish acg 6 string I've got an extra string and that's really thrown me thus far, I'm gradually getting used to it, it'll take me a while but when I get there I'll be me again!
 7. I just bought the AI that Steve bought from Clarky Steve was a perfect gent in waiting a couple of days for the cash to land, posted it out asap and it has now arrived safely on my desk. All happily and easily done, stree free deal. Thanks matey!
 8. Bump for an excellent cab that's just too far away for me to collect
 9. I had a 55-01 and really liked it, I felt there was something lacking in the sound though, the preamp was a little clanky for me, I tried a 55-02 and was immediately taken with it! Very versatile sounds, the preamp did everything I needed and sounded superb for all the sorts of music you've listed (I play in a covers band doing exactly the sort of thing you've said too)...loved it! I didn't need anything else but I did try an ACG and that was my downfall! I miss my 55-02 as it did everything I needed... but g.a.s will do strange things to rational folks

 14. It'll eventually start to leak won't it? Best if you can get it out, aguilar can send you a new screw for it if you can somehow get it out in the first place...
 15. The pics have stopped showing for me, this may be hamstringing progress as regards a sale?
 16. Hiya, What kind of power will it take please and what's it's resistance/ohm rating too? ta
 17.
I checked the lettsbass website..It's really not expensive for that kind of work!
indeedy, gopher it!!
 18.
Just adore Jons work. In normal circumstances I would have placed a custom order by now however the current financial climate has hamstrung me somewhat. Still find it incredible that a bass of this quality would sell for less than a Mexicano Fender!
His prices are extremely good matey!
 19.
I'm jealous.
Drop Jon a pm and get speccing dude, he makes qualidee basses!
 20.
Hope you enjoy the bass Gareth. I'm here if you need anything. JL

That's great, thank you. I'll need to adjust to having the extra top string but I'm not sure you can help with that! I pretty much decided it was mine within a few minutes of trying it out last week, just having a noodle on it now and I am indeed loving it.
Jon's a great bloke and mucho helpful so take him at his word matey! I hope you have many happy hours together with your new fretless Gareth!
 21. Gareth just bought my letts fretless 6, great guy, a no hassle, faultless, swift and pain free transaction in every way! Thanks matey
