1. Looks like one of these? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_MIM_Jazz_V_Okoume.html
2. His recent memoir “Rough Notes” is a good read
3. Hearing Poptones on John Peel blew my mind and inspired me to play bass. An amazing album.
4. I'd always wanted to try a Bass VI but being left-handed my options were even more limited. Then I discovered the Revelation RJT60B. It's a good alternative to the Squier and it's cheaper too. The novelty did wear off quite quickly. I do like it, but I agree with the previous posters - in terms of technique and sound it's very much a guitar, not a bass.
5.
Yes I like the sound of sc. But Maybe this more lowers of bb2 are What I need to perceive more headroom and presence without loosing clarito and punch? Thanks
What about a Super Twin?
6. It’s just the natural one that’s made of relatively heavy soft maple. The painted ones are basswood or agathis, hence the lighter weight.
7. I have one of these, and also an American Standard Jazz which is noticeably lighter. Blame the VM’s soft maple body.

Moollon
The Moollon website says that there's a UK dealer, Sounds Great Music in Cheshire, although SGM don't seem to mention Moollon on their site.
The sell Moollon effects pedals, but not the guitars.
9.
I did like the idea of the Roland but it has way too many settings.
I've got one of these. It's a great little amp. Don't worry about the controls, just plug in and play.
10.
Isnt macca's model effectively an 'upside down' neck anyway though (even in RH format)? I'd never really noticed until they brought out the C64 model or whatever it was called.
They only brought in a proper left handed headstock with the 4003 in 1980. Prior to that they had used RH necks on the lefties.
11. Ah, that's interesting to see. It's almost the mirror image of mine, PB1805, which also has the paddle headstock, and no label in the cavity: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4aut8983jh1zilf/Wal.jpg?dl=0 They must have been built together, around 1980 I think. Certainly very early Custom models.
12.
The symptoms haven't changed - they remain the lack of top end zing. The observations on the performance of my P and J were for context. Apologies for the confusion. I think I need a cab with a tweeter.
If you like your Super Twin surely the answer is a Big Twin II?
13. Another interesting short scale option is the Ibanez TMB30: https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/TMB30-BK/electric-basses/ibanez-tmb30-bk-30-short-scale-bass-in-black
14. If I needed a travel bass I'd be looking at a Steinberger Spirit. I had the guitar version for a while and thought it was great.
15. Surely the "early bass cockup" is in fact the rest of the band not going into the chorus on time.
16.
P basses - in EVERY band.
I'm here and I'm seeing far more Jazzes on the smaller stages.
17. I don't think the Sires from Thomann come with a bag
18. I use a Mono Sleeve with my Fenders and it will stand up while empty. I was quite surprised by how substantial it is, actually. The pocket is massive; that's the main reason I bought it as I need to carry a laptop sometimes. There is internal protection for the bass at the bottom, but the Sleeve itself doesn't have any external protection like the other Mono bags.
19.
I acquired a Rickenbacker 4003 lefty last year, and whilst the pots are anticlockwise to turn up, the pots themselves are right handed audio taper pots wired backwards which means that from off there is a large increase in volume or tone for very little movement, and then nothing changes for the remaining 70% of movement. It is my intention to have a good electronics guy to wire them right handed so they work correctly. Frustrating that a bass of this quality comes out of the factory with right handed parts on it!
Fenders are the same. I've got recent a American Standard Jazz and Precision and both were like this. I put reverse taper pots in so the controls still turn anti clockwise but actually work properly.
20. I've not tried a Pro but you can still find the well regarded American Standard which it superseded for substantially less money, so I would look for one of those.
21. Thanks for that, most helpful
22. Interesting thread. I'm currently using a single S112 for small pub gigs and considering either a second S112, a BF Two10 or a pair of One10s.
I generally use a single Two10 for most gigs with PA support, as a stage monitor. It's much more capable than a single S112 and the sound is not that different (although it does sound clearly bigger, but it's the same kind of sound). But the two S112 are very capable in small bars without PA and better than a single Two10.
Can you enlarge on why you find the S112 pair better than the Two 10 for those gigs? Just a nicer sound?
23. The Fender guide is concise and straightforward https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/214343843-How-do-I-set-up-my-bass-guitar-properly-
24. Maybe consider the Revelation 6 string bass? Very good for the money: http://thebassgallery.com/index.php/bass/rjt-60-b-bass.html
25. Parallel to the neck with the lines pointing towards the headstock end
