Total Watts

1. Wow that's awesome, I often wondered whether it was originally built for you, as it had your name on the neck! Hope you're keeping well, and I assume you're still playing? I'm sorry to say Penny lost her battle with cancer last year. We were playing in the same band when she bought the Wal from you in 1982. It really was her pride and joy, and a big part of her identity for all those years. The fact that she had a fretless Wal Custom and a knackered Hillman Imp proved that she had her priorities in the correct order. Thanks so much for getting in touch, Cheers, Julian.
2. Due to various tedious household repairs sadly it's time to sell my old Wal Custom. It's been in my family since around March 1982 and is unmodified. It's a fretless 4-string in African walnut with an ebony fingerboard. It's generally in very good condition and plays very well. It has a few small dings and the lacquer has gone cloudy in a few places, which only really shows up in natural light, but considering it's approaching 40 years old it's really nice. The electrics work perfectly and were overhauled by Pete the Fish in around 2003. Serial Number is PB1813, it's signed and dated 2/9/80 by Wal himself and includes the original brown Wal case. Feel free to ask any questions, I can also take more detailed pics of any specific parts. I'm in mid Wales but do travel a fair bit, and I'm asking for £3750. Cheers, Julian
3. I get tickets to see great bands with my wife about once every five years, but we gig 2-4 times a week, so no contest for me. You warned him in advance, let him sing and play bongos and bass pedals with his lazy guitar player.
4. I've gigged my Wal a fair bit and it's never bothered me, but I retired my '63 Strat from my guitar gigs about 20 years ago due to paranoia in crappy pub venues. Funnily enough, although I've had it since I was 17, the fact that it has been relegated to wall art for so long has diminished any emotional attachment I had for it, so now it's up for sale.
5. Wow @pineweasel, I've never seen one so similar to mine in all the years I've owned it! I have a nice letter from Pete somewhere after he changed the worn volume pot, where he describes it as one of the first circuits of that type they made.
6. My wife comes to all my gigs and sits at the back, it's her job!
7. Hi all, I'm a new member here but a long-standing member of a few guitar forums. I am a guitar player, but I've played bass for around half of the bands I've gigged with over the last 38 years, indeed that's how I started. My interest has been rekindled this year because a hand injury in February prevents me from playing a few chord shapes on guitar, but my (honestly rather pedestrian) bass playing is unaffected and I'm thoroughly enjoying the change. Anyway, long story short, here's my Wal, it's an early Custom fretless with paddle headstock, and what I think is a walnut body with maple stripes and no veneer. I bought it used in early '82, it has no label in the control cavity and has the serial number PB1813. Some sort of Custom prototype maybe? I've never seen another without veneer body facings. I wonder if the previous owner is a member here and knows more about it? I never actually met them, I was away gigging in the spring/summer of '82 and sent my girlfriend of the time to collect it, or perhaps some of the Wal experts on here might have a little info in it.
