I play mostly 60s - 90s music and I don't want to go too modern.
The Aguilar Tone Hammer has to be worth a try. I like mine. Pair it with a lightweight cab or two for portable old school tones.

That looks like the hydrid guitar played by Charlie Hunter. 3 bass strings, 5 guitar. Most probably a prototype as it says. Here's the current model: http://www.novaxguit.../sales/ch8.html

Roqsolid surely do one? http://roqsolid.co.uk

I like to keep things minimal so have a lightweight cab with cover and TH500 amp in its padded bag, plus the bass and everything else in a gig bag. I recently got a Mono Bass Sleeve, mainly for its huge front pocket, into which I can easily fit 3 or 4 pedals plus leads, tuner, etc.

This sort of thing is down to a minority who choose to ignore the requests to "love the farm, leave no trace". This is a message you see time and time again, from buying your ticket, to the programme, to the screens between acts. It's not a hard thing to grasp and most attendees do their best. Unfortunately, when you can pop into Halfords on your way and get a 4 person "camping pack" for 90 quid, the temptation to just dump it at the end will be there for some.

I fitted one of these to my Fender Jazz recently, as I'm doing a few tunes that use drop D. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. Installation is easy, setting up and getting the tuning adjustment spot on took a while but now it's completely solid. The only downside for me was that I can't use my wall hanger as the detuning lever gets in the way. I did a gig on the weekend using a different bass and certainly missed it. Mine's also a left handed one; make sure you order the right model. I got it from Bass Direct, and it took about a month as it had to be ordered specially.

I got back yesterday from what was my 9th Glastonbury so it was interesting to read this thread. I had a great time as ever, but the mud did make getting around the site much slower, so I saw less music than I hoped to. Some observations: - the loos were better than ever, I reckon. The plastic portaloos are mostly replaced by composting toilets and of course there are the famous long drops, which I noticed were being cleaned more regularly - the sound was really impressive at every stage I went to this year, even the Acoustic tent, which I've often found quite poor in the past. Modern PAs are amazing. - the "37000 staff" figure is easy to believe when you realise the scale of the event. It's so much more than the 5 or 6 big stages you see on TV. It's like a medium sized town with streets lined with bars, cafes and shops and a venue on every corner. Personal highlights for me were Floating Points at the Park, Roisin Murphy, and Kamasi Washington at West Holts. Washington's bassist Miles Mosley did some killer solos on upright. I also got to headline the Fluffy Rock Cafe stage on Sunday night, which was a brilliant experience. We began playing to a handful of people at 11pm but as the main stages finished the tent completely filled up. We were doing crowd pleasing covers and it was fantastic to have such a great audience dancing and singing along!

I have the lefty maple VM Jazz and it's pretty heavy. Can't tell you how much as I am away from home, but certainly heavier than my alder bodied US Jazz

We do this; the guitarist approximates the part with a slide. Works pretty well.

Future Proof recording interface?
pineweasel replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Is it possible that either of your interfaces works with OS X without a driver? I use an ancient Edirol UA25 which only requires drivers for advanced features like 24 bit recording. It works perfectly well as a basic 16 bit interface with OS X's built in Core Audio. -
Headphones as an alternative to a practice amp
Korg Pandora and headphones and Your set.
Agree with this. A Pandora is all I ever play through at home. -
Esperanza spalding. What a player, What a performer
pineweasel replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I've not been watching the videos but I love this latest album. It's great to hear her playing and singing in what is basically a trio. Fantastic guitar playing too. -
I bought a Fender P from them late last year. Great price and no problems with the delivery.

Looks like this place in Bournemouth have them: http://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk I tried a Kala U-Bass at Duke of Uke in London and it put me off buying one. Too expensive for what it was.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
pineweasel replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I've only seen our old friends the resonator and Warwick mini bass for weeks now. Perhaps Thomann are just awaiting a new container load of Harley Bentons? -
I've just bought a pedal from Pete. Great communications, prompt dispatch and delivery, and the pedal was well packed and mint as described. It's the first time I've bought something on Basschat and Pete has set a high standard - I'm impressed! Thanks!

Another Pandora PX4D user here. There is an aux in which you can plug your phone etc. into for playing along with songs. It's a great little unt for practising. It seems to have been superseded by the Pandora Mini.
I would go for an active Thunder 2 or 3 if I were you. I had a fretless Thunder 2A back in the day and it was great, a few years after I sold it I bought a Thunder 1 and it was awful - really cheap and nasty.
The Thunder I cheap and nasty? Compared to the 2 & 3 has a bolt on neck, lighter bridge, and just one pickup, but it's still a great bass and miles better than most of the genuinely cheap and nasty alternatives available at the time.

I thought her old stuff was impressive but this new album is amazing

A reversed P makes a lot of sense. I read somewhere that one of the problems with first Precision was that the amplifiers of the day weren't really up to the job, and would regularly blow their speakers. When redesigning it one of Leo Fender's aims was to reduce the attack of the plucked notes to minimise this, and placing the bass side of the split P pickup nearer the neck helped. Which means the pickup configuration is compromised because of technical limitations which haven't applied for about 50 years.

I'm pretty sure I read that Linda bought it for him

App. Disappeared from iPad and iPhone ...
pineweasel replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
An app can be withdrawn from the App Store by the publisher, at which point you can't re-download it, despite previously purchasing it. However it won't just disappear from your device, and if you backed it up to a computer you can reinstall from there. -
I use a Planet Waves mini one. It's tiny and very unobtrusive, tracks well even on the low B. It's small but can still be seen easily enough. Also because it's small I can just leave it attached, even while the bass is in its bag being transported.
+1. These are great little tuners

Speaking as a long term Jazz player, I recently bought an American Standard Precision, and I really like the Modern C neck on that. So I imagine the Slim C would be easy to get on with.
